DIRECTIONS from San Jose to La Fortuna/Arenal
Hey guys, Im DAngelo from and today I have another travel tip for you todays travels tip is going to be about transportation. More specifically driving transportation driving from San Jose, Costa Rica all the way up here to the La Fortuna area, which is home to the Arenal Volcano, which is constantly erupting, which is why most of you come out here in hopes to see lava. So, if we can zoom on in to this map Ill walk you through on how to get from San Jose to La Fortuna.
As you can see San Jose is down here and up here to the north is the Arenal Volcano and right next to the Arenal Volcano is the town of La Fortuna which well be headed to today. Now, Costa Ricas not really known for their street names for instant if you look at this map here this main road that well be taking out of San Jose On one map it will be called the Inner-American highway, and on another map it might be called the Pan-American highway, and on a third map it will be labeled highway #1. So, for reference for this video and so you can fallow along better regardless to what map you have Im not going to label any of the roads that are on the map, and Im just going to let you know as far as how many miles to a certain point or the towns youll be passing through now the drive from San Jose to La Fortuna is anywhere from 2.5 hours to 3 hours. Now Id recommend if possible to drive to La Fortuna in the morning, because later in the late afternoon and early evening those roads have been known to have heavy fog which reduces your visibility tremendously. Umm also there are three different routes to get to La Fortuna from San Jose so Ill be going through all three routes.

San Jose Airport Costa Rica
Hey Everyone, michael alan and DAngelo from the Costa Rica Travel Channel. We went to Juan Santamaria International Airport aka San Jose Airport (so don't be confused) and made a little video so you would know what to expect when you fly into Costa Rica. Sometimes, this airport can be quite intimidating, especially during high season (Dec-April). If you made it to La Fortuna, home of the Arenal Volcano, stop by, but don't forget the Cacique.
Every country seems to have their own set of requirements when traveling 'in' and 'out,' and Costa Rica is no exception. The good news is, the requirements are fairly basic, as it's quite easy to get in and out of the San Jose airport (Juan Santamaria International Airport)- with the possible exception of 'time'. There ARE frequent instances of waiting a few hours in various lines, depending. Flying into Liberia's, Daniel Oduber International Airport, located in the Guanacaste region is just a bit easier and less crowded than its older brother, Juan Santamaria Airport. But, if you are interested in Costa Rica travel, then you should probably take a look at this important information concerning entry and departure requirements even if you're a seasoned traveler. The Costa Rica Travel Channel thinks it's a good idea to remind you of things you may have forgotten you know.
Things have changed and a drivers license and birth certificate will NOT get you into Costa Rica. YOU MUST HAVE A VALID PASSPORT that will not expire within six months. If your passport is in poor condition the Costa Rica Travel Channel highly recommends that you replace it before leaving, you could be turned away. If you even suspect your passport may be a bit 'weathered,' don't chance it, trust us, you really can be turned away and put on the next return flight. This would definitely be a vacation buzz kill. So, error on the side of being overly conservative.
US citizens as well as those from Canada and most European countries may visit Costa Rica for 90 days. If you wish a longer visit, you must leave the country for 72 hours. This will refresh your visa for another 90 days. However, there is a legal loophole. If for instance you left the country BEFORE your 90 days were up, you could re-enter after just a short day trip across the border, which would also refresh your visa for another 90 days. The Costa Rica Travel Channel does not endorse this, just reporting it. Doing this in and out thing a few times is no big deal. Doing it over and over (perpetual tourism) you can run a serious risk of being expelled from the country or refused re-admittance.

Discover COSTA RICA- San Jose, Arenal Volcano, Monteverde, Manuel Antonio Beach
Enter Costa Rica. What do see in Costa Rica in 1 week: From San Jose capital, rent a car and drive north to Poas Volcano. From there, a passage through La Fortuna, to go to Arenal Volcano is necessary. The national park of Arenal, Arenal waterfall and the Arenal hanging bridges are a only a short drive away. The next day take the scenic dirt road along the Arenal lake to go to Monteverde, a town in mountainous northwestern Costa Rica. There you can hike or zip line your way through its biodiverse cloud forest. You can also do a night jungle tour to see exotic animals, such as tarantula spiders, viper snakes, sloths, quetzals, the blue morpho butterfly and toucans. The next day drive south of the country towards the beach. A few the stops you can make are: Jaco, americanized party town, Quepos, small town adjacent to the National Park of Manuel Antonio. It is the best beach in all of Costa Rica with turquoise blue water and white sand beaches. We ended our trip at Clandestino Beach Resort, at Playa Palo Seco, a luxurious 4 star resort offering luxurious private huts and delicious food. It also offers miles of wild secluded beaches with no sign of human life!
Perfect!

Change Dollars and SIMM cards at San Jose Airport Costa Rica
Off the plane, down the escalator, see two booths. Money changing and SIMM cards.
We traveled with a press tour group. Pearlman changed dollars at the booth. Not the best rate of exchange. However, the tour group never stopped for money changing at a bank.
Actually, changing dollars for colones is not necessary in Costa Rica. The US dollar is the second currency of the country. The problem is the rate of exchange. The week we traveled, the official rate offered 570 colones to the dollar. When buying with dollars, we often received only 500, almost a 9% loss.
A greater loss came from buying at the expensive markets near the hotels. The tour operator placed us in luxury hotels. We remained in the tourist bubble the entire week in Costa Rica --
--- except when we took the City Tour through San Jose. In a bus, with a guide, rushing from site to site in the city. A good introduction to the city and the people.
All decent, very often kind and generous, never objecting to this foreigner with a video camera.

San Jose Airport Costa Rica UPDATED
Hey Everyone, this is an UPDATED version of another video we did about flying into the Juan Santamaria International Airport (San Jose Airport). This video combines the old footage with some NEW changes that needed to be added. Check OUT this video to have an understanding of what you can expect when arriving into Costa Rica via the San Jose Airport. pura vida.
here's the video -
Hey guys Im Michael Alan for hey, last year about this same time we made a video tape about flying into the San Jose airport (airport is really in Alajuela not San Jose). Well the information is still strong, and youre going to see it couple of minor changes that we need to tell you about So, this is the new video about flying in to the San Jose airport. Ill see you I a couple of minutes with the changers take a look.
Welcome to Juan Santa Maria International Airport better known as the San Jose airport (again, the airport is in Alajuela not in San Jose its just known all over as the San Jose Airport.). ah, were just going to show you uhm what you can expect when you arrive here in to uhmm Costa Rica. Maybe give you a couple of tips on make this a little better transitions on where ever it is youre going okay, so well be right back
Hey guys, when you get off the plain youll go through baggage claim and customs and all that stuff. When you come out youll get inundated with a lot of people, a lot of signs, people yelling taxi, people trying to get your attention.. and that kind of thing. If youre set up on a tour thats good. Theyll uhm. Theyll pick you up here. If you got uhhh if you need a rental car all the rental car places are inside and theyll bring a shuttle around and take you to the rental car places which are about 5 minutes away. If youre coming in and you have nothing youre just coming to Costa Rica, but you have nothing set up I would highly recommend you get a taxi and go where ever it is you need to go outside the airport whether its another bus transfer type of thing, and you can get the taxi service inside you dont have to come out because youll get inundated with people saying Ill take you here for $25 or Ill take you here for $50, but inside its all official.
So the other thing is. This is the place youll want to watch your luggage. The only people you want touching your luggage possibly are the people that work here you know the guys out here in the front the (official) taxi people. Other then that people that say oh, Ill help you to the bus station that kind of thing NO. Alright, so hope it helps just know when you get outside the airport youre going to be inundated with a lot of people. A lot of people kind of swarming you.. sometimes theyre worst then others . But, You can really feel a little intimidated sometimes coming off the plain here so Hope it helps hope your ready see you in Costa Rica.
Okay guys, you heard me mentions something about a taxi boot. Well, If youve ever flown into San Jose before or youre a regular coming into the airport you know about the orange taxies whom basically had a monopoly on the airport service for a lot of years. Well, it looks like thats not going to apply any more. But if youve never been to Costa Rica before it doesnt even matter all you have to know is that if there is a taxi booth of any kind inside the airport that you can pre-pay for your San Jose destination or close Just know that youre going to pay a little more for the convenience if theres no booth dont worry about it
Now, another thing you go out and get into a taxi Just make sure they TURN THE METER ON thats all, thats basic information. And the other thing is DO NOT exchange your money in the San Jose airport theres much better places DONT DO IT THERE! Uhm I dont want to say ripped off, but you know.
Alright guys, hope it helps Welcome to Costa Rica enjoy your stay Im Michael Alan for PEACE. Hope it helps.
