#CorkLovesMusic is a newly-formed co-operative of music and media professionals, formed after TEDx CorkSalon's CorkLovesMusic event in September 2016.
Working in collaboration with bodies like First Music Contact and the venues and festivals of Cork City, the aim is to open up new conversations in and around Cork's resurgent music community.
#CorkLovesMusic is presented in association with First Music Contact, the Arts Council-funded music advocacy body.
FMC started life as a cross-border umbrella group for music collectives in Ireland, to promote, encourage and develop the work of music collectives, to facilitate those already in existence and to help in the start up of new groups. Expansion in the past number of years now sees FMC as a free and independent information and resource organisation for popular musicians and the popular music sector in Ireland.
FMC also co-run the Hard Working Class Heroes Festival, Ireland’s premier A&R festival showcasing emerging Irish talent
(hwch.net). Music from Ireland is another FMC spearheaded project, building a brand around Irish bands at international music festivals (musicfromireland.org).
Most recently FMC have spearheaded the Breaking Tunes project, providing a platform for Irish musicians to showcase their wares to the industry.(breakingtunes.net). FMC is grant-aided by the Arts Council/An Chomairle Ealionn.

The Niall McCabe Band are a Cork based Irish soul, folk and rock outfit with their genesis on a small Island off the stormy West Coast of Ireland. Musically, the band share a very coherent outlook having played together in various groups over the last five years, from Jazz quartets, to Big-Band Soul outfits, to Rock and Pop cover groups. Their debut album Part of the Light was released in 2012 Niall McCabe (Vocals/guitar) grew up on Clare Island off the coast of County Mayo and played music from a very young age. Starting out playing traditional Irish music on the accordion and the bodhran, as a teenager he progressed onto rock-music playing drums and guitar. Niall’s songs and musical style are drawn from this mixture of folk roots and more ‘transatlantic’ influences.
Waterford born David Duffy (Bass ) and Davey Ryan ( Drums) from Tipperary form the core of the sound in their respective roles of bass and Drums. Their solid groove has made them the most ‘in demand’ rhythm-section in Cork city over the last number of years.Hugh Dillon (Guitar) is a widely sought after and much admired guitarist from Cobh who has played all the larger venues of the country with the likes of Mick Flannery, as well as keeping very busy with session work.

Coughlan’s Bar & Beer Garden
7 Douglas Street
Cork
The award for National Live Music Venue of the Year 2013, (via public vote) for the first time was Cork’s newly established venue, Coughlan’s. Established almost two centuries ago on Douglas Street, Coughlans is a pub steeped in history, unspoiled and untarnished by the passage of time. It is a pub that is held fondly in the hearts of its regular patrons and new visitors alike.Since the early 1800's the Coughlan and Ellis families have plied their trade as Stone Masons, Publicans and Medical Practitioners on Douglas Street. As a listed building elements of this history echo throughout the stone walled beer garden built in the 1860's, original medical memorabilia and old bottling equipment which was once used to bottle The Black Stuff on these very premises.

IMRO Live Music Venue of the Year Awards 2013
The award for National Live Music Venue of the Year (via public vote) for the first time was Cork's newly established venue, Coughlan's. Of the annual awards voted by over 8,500 IMRO members, Keith Donald, IMRO Chairman said The IMRO Live Music Venue of The Year Awards is an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the hard work, vision and creativity that the live music venue and festival sectors deliver week in, week out throughout Ireland.
Other winners in the regional categories include:
Dublin -- Whelans
Rest of Leinster -- Mermaid Arts Centre, Wicklow
Munster -- Crane Lane Theatre, Cork
Ulster -- An Grianán Theatre, Letterkenny
Connacht -- Matt Molloy's, Westport, Co. Mayo
Also nabbing accolades for IMRO Live Music Festival of the Year and IMRO Best Small Live Music Festival were Electric Picnic and Body & Soul respectively.
Performances on the night came from Kodaline (who were presented the IMRO No.1 Award to acknowledge their album going to number 1 in June 2013), Gavin James, I Am The Cosmos and IMRO's newest member Eve Murtagh.
Hot Press Editor Niall Stokes also gave special commendations, presenting awards to Dolans in Limerick and Coughlans in Cork.
He said Live music is more important than ever for musicians and bands -- so it is crucial they they have the best possible venues to play in. The IMRO Live Music Venue Awards are a brilliant platform for recognising all of the good work that is happening all over Ireland in creating those opportunities for musicians.
Great venues are really important in creating scenes and both Dolan's in Limerick and Coughlan's in Cork fit that description perfectly. The overall winner of the Hot Press Live Music Venue of the Year is Whelan's, in Dublin.
Whelan's is one of the great Irish venues. It has made a huge contribution to Irish music and Irish musicians over the past 25 years, nurturing many of the artists who have gone on to make a huge impression internationally. And they are still playing an essential part in bringing young bands and artists through. They are hugely deserving of this accolade -- especially at the beginning of their 25th Anniversary celebrations.

Coughlans IMRO Promo 2013
Less than 18 months ago, an innocent (admittedly drunken!) conversation led to a dream being realised and the beginnings of Coughlans Live. It's impossible to recount all the incredible moments that have happened since, and the amount of wonderful people we have met and now consider our friends during this amazing journey. If it had been said during that same conversation that we would be nominated for IMRO Live Music Venue of the Year, less than a year and a half later, it would certainly have been said in jest. Fortunately, due to your overwhelming support, commitment, friendship, belief and faith in us, that's exactly what has happened.
It's very hard to describe what all of this means to everyone involved here but let's just say it's ALOT!!
If you want to vote for us or indeed any of the other venues, simply click on the link below!! Thank you!
