Creation of the Croatian National Currency
The kuna, the monetary unit of the Republic of Croatia, was introduced on 30 May 1994. The introduction of the kuna as the monetary unit of the Republic of Croatia and the replacement of the Croatian dinar was a huge, logistically challenging endeavour, the aim of which was to ensure smooth payment services in the country and at the same time to try to anticipate and eliminate all types of risks that may arise in large-scale cash operations. The introduction of the kuna is one of the most complex projects completed by the Croatian National Bank, the realisation of which was a result of the cooperation of numerous CNB employees, and institutions and individuals outside the central bank, many of whom were interviewed in this video.

he kuna is the currency of Croatia, in use since 1994 (sign: kn; code: HRK). It is subdivided into 100 lipa. The kuna is issued by the Croatian National Bank and the coins are minted by the Croatian Monetary Institute.
The word kuna means marten in Croatian, referring to the historical use of marten pelts as units of value in medieval trading. The word lipa means linden (lime) tree, a species that was traditionally planted around marketplaces in Croatia and elsewhere in the Austro-Hungarian Empire during the early modern period.
On 1 January 2007, the tolar was supplanted by the euro. Slovenia issues its own euro coins, like all other nations in the Eurozone.
The tolar was the currency of Slovenia from 8 October 1991 until the introduction of the euro on 1 January 2007. It was subdivided into 100 stotinov (cents). The ISO 4217 currency code for the Slovenian tolar was SIT. From October 1991 until June 1992, the acronym SLT was in use

International Competition (From Croatia to Alberta)
The love of hockey is truly universal. It's Canada's national past-time, but other countries are just as passionate about the sport. We don't often see teams from Croatia in international competition, but rest assured, this country of just over 4 million people has a strong and loyal fan base. A team from the capital city of Zagreb recently travelled more than 11 hours to play an exhibition series versus eight Bantam 3 teams in Calgary, Airdrie and Okotoks. As HockeyXtra discovered, the event was a huge learning experience for every one involved.
The KHL Mladost team played a lot of hockey in their series, finishing with a 2-8 record before heading back to Zagreb. Hockey Calgary would like to thank all volunteers and billets who made this great event happen.

Croatia To Replace Their Own Currency With The Euro By 2023
The newest EU member is on the road to its inevitable membership in the Euro Club. Croatia wants to relegate its currency, the Kuna, to the history books by 2023. But the Euro adoption path is littered with obstacles and challenges. In an uncertain world, what is Croatia’s strategy to ensure a smooth adoption and what can the Euro mean for the country’s economy in the next decade?

Creditors approve deal to save Croatia's biggest company
(4 Jul 2018) The creditors of the biggest company in the Balkans, Croatian retailer Agrokor, voted on Wednesday to approve a settlement deal that includes giving two Russian banks a stake of over 46 percent.
The vote took place on Wednesday in a sports hall in Zagreb that was turned into a courtroom.
Some 80 percent of the 450 creditor representatives voted in favour of the deal, which avoids bankruptcy for Agrokor.
The company employs 60,000 in the region and accounts for 15 percent of EU member Croatia's economy.
Agrokor collapsed under the weight of 8 billion euros (9 billion US dollar) in debt, including a disputed sum owed to two Russian state-run banks, Sberbank and VTB.
The creditors include foreign and Croatian banks, suppliers and bondholders.
The settlement deal includes corporate restructuring that gives the two Russian banks a big stake in the company, prompting fears in Croatia that the Kremlin has been strategically trying to increase its political influence in the European Union's newest member.
According to the settlement, suppliers can expect to receive 60 percent of their claims on the company.
Banks will get up to 20 percent, while for bond holders the return will range between 40 and 80 percent of their investment.
The implementation of the deal is expected to last between three to four months after a commercial court formally approves it.

Hockey game in Zagreb, Croatia watching Medveščak Bears travel video transcript:
It two days it is my birthday and you asked me a couple of weeks ago what do you want for your birthday? So I realized we were going to be in Zagreb so I was like researching some things. Hmmm. Should I go out for a nice dinner? Should I have something else? But then I realized they have a hockey team. Oh my gosh. Yeah. And you know how much I like ice hockey. Like being a Canadian and being away from Canada that is one of the things I miss the most. Aside from family and friends is actually going to live hockey games. So when I found out they had a team here I was like that is my birthday present. So we are going to watch a Medveščak Zagreb game. And they used to be in Kontinental Hockey League but now they've switched back to the Austrian League so they're playing Vienna tonight. Oh and we're going to go checkout that game and show you the whole experience.
Time to go buy those tickets. Alright Sam tickets in hand. It was 30 Kuna and so that came to like 5 US dollars I believe. What kind of seats did you get for 5 bucks. Ah, they are all the same price throughout the whole arena. She said she was giving us the two best seats so hopefully we can trust her. The ticket ladies opinion but yeah we've got our tickets so let's go in.
You have something to show us. I got the hat and I forgot to tell you the team name is the bears. That is a ferocious looking bear. And ready for my superman moment. He's stripping down. They were both quite cheap. I think it was 90 for the shirt and 60 for the hat. Kuna. About 10 bucks for the hat and 15 bucks for the shirt.
I've got the goodies. Big thing of popcorn. This was Crno beer. it looks like a dark beer. And yeah we're set for the game.
The first period is over and the action was really good. Lots of back and forth. Actually it looked like Vienna was going to score first but then we rallied and we ended up scoring late in the period. So guess what we're up one nothing. That is awesome.
Second break. People are really angry. Not second break. End of the second period. Alright. Anyways, it was an awesome second period for us because we scored two goals and now we're up 3 to 1. So the big question is can we hold onto the lead and win this game. Let's find out.
So that wraps up our hockey experience here in Zagreb, Croatia. Your birthday hockey. It was an awesome birthday present. That was such great entertainment. Like I had so much fun. And it was so cool that the home team won. Yeah. We didn't just win by like a goal or two. We ended up beating them 4-1. And the crowd really got into it. At the very end of the game all the players came out and had like salutes and cheers. And it was just like the entertainment value was insane. Normally people are rushing to get out and beat the crowds. It was like they won the championship or something. That is cool I mean it really got the fans into it and it was just such a good experience. If you're visiting Zagreb and you can come to one of these games. I highly highly recommend it. I'd go to another one for sure.
