B.O.B Currahee - Camp Toccoa
my:
Camp Toccoa was a United States Army paratrooper training camp during World War II five miles west of Toccoa, Georgia.
It was first planned in 1938, constructed by the Georgia National Guard and the Works Projects Administration beginning January 17, 1940, and was dedicated December 14, 1940. The facility was initially named Camp General Robert Toombs after a Confederate Civil War General.
In 1942 the U.S. Army took over the site. There were very few buildings or facilities there and original personnel were housed in tents. More permanent barracks were built as the first paratroopers started to arrive. The story goes that Colonel Robert Sink, commander of one of the first units to train there, the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment (PIR), thought that it was bad psychology to have young men arrive at Toccoa, travel Route 13 past a casket factory (the Toccoa Casket Company) to learn to jump at Camp Tombs, so he persuaded the Department of the Army to change the name to Camp Toccoa.
Initially, Camp Toccoa used the Toccoa municipal airport for jump training, but due to a transport accident, it was abandoned for having too short a runway for safe C-39 and C-47 operations. All further jump training occurred at Fort Benning, Georgia.
Camp Toccoa also lacked a rifle range, so airborne trainees would march thirty miles to Clemson Agricultural College, a military school in South Carolina, to practice on the college's shooting range.
The most prominent local landmark is Currahee Mountain. Paratroopers in training ran from the camp up the mountain and back, memorialized in the HBO series, Band of Brothers, with the shout three miles up, three miles down. Members of the 506th refer to themselves as Currahees, derived from the Cherokee word gurahiyi, which may mean standing alone. The crest is surmounted by a group of telecommunications towers.

Teddy Baker has an extensive Music Career:
Born in Virginia and reared in the foothills of South Carolina, Teddy Baker’s music career began at the age of nine. Since then, it has spanned a multitude of genres from his early days of country and
bluegrass, to his later years of rock, rhythm & blues and gospel music. His love for performing was surpassed only by his passion for writing the songs that he sang. In the late seventies, his interest in writing led him to Georgia where he and two mutual friends opened an original music venue called The Bistro. It was there that Teddy had the opportunity to work with many artists and writers in the Atlanta music scene such as White Face, Mother’s Finest, The Producers, and The Miles Brothers.
It was not long before his talent was recognized by the record industry. In the early eighties, Teddy released his first charted single with Casablanca Records called, “It’s Over” which was produced by songwriter/musician, Paul Davis (“I Go Crazy,” “Cool Night”) and the now legendary Nashville engineer/producer Ed Seay. As they continued to work together, Paul Davis became a mentor to Teddy in a way which greatly impacted his writing style, and still does to this day. With the release of Paul’s hit single, “Cool Night,” the Teddy Baker Band toured with Paul throughout the mid-eighties performing on such television shows as American Bandstand and Solid Gold.
As Teddy continued to pursue his music, he accepted an 0pportunity to go into full time music ministry. For twenty years, he continued to hone his writing skills as a pastor of worship as he lead weekly worship services for several congregations in his home state of South Carolina.
Today, Teddy has returned to his roots performing as a solo act; singing some of his favorite classic songs as well as the songs that he has penned over the last several years. His new songs talk about the wonder of life, love, and the pursuit of happiness through the stories he shares from a life filled with passion, faith, listening to others, and an undying love of writing!
As an entertainer, Teddy’s desire is to entertain through his message and music. His stage presence is focused on drawing his audience into his stories while touching their hearts and lives with his songs.
As he continues to build his following around the country, his style continues to be a perfect fit for a
variety of venues such as clubs, festivals, vineyards, restaurants, and corporate events.
Whatever the occasion... Teddy Baker is the answer for your entertainment needs!
