Kitty Hawk Woods Coastal Reserve, Outer Banks Spring Hiking, North Carolina
Located at the Kitty Hawk Woods Coastal Reserve I do some Spring Hiking in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. I hike to the Currituck Sound and along the way see some snakes, birds, turtles, and some murky areas with an abundance of plant life.

[Wikipedia] Currituck Banks North Carolina National Estuarine Research Reserve
Corolla is an unincorporated community located in Poplar Branch township, Currituck County, North Carolina along the northern Outer Banks. It has a permanent population of approximately 500 people; during the summer vacation season, the population surges into the thousands. Corolla is home to the Currituck Beach Lighthouse, one of the seven North Carolina coastal lighthouses.
Previously a quiet and little-known location, a development boom in the 1980s sparked growth in the area, and Corolla has become a popular vacation destination. Resting between the Currituck Sound and the Atlantic Ocean, Corolla attracts mainly beach-goers, especially in the summer months. Besides the beach, Corolla is home to many other attractions including the historic Whalehead Club, Currituck Beach Lighthouse, Center for Wildlife Education, shopping, dining, water sports, and Corolla’s wild horses.Corolla is home to about 119 feral Banker horses. They are located on a 12,000-acre (49 km²) animal sanctuary situated north of the populated areas of Corolla. The Corolla Wild Horse Fund is a public charity whose mission is to protect and preserve the herd. Over fifty thousand people come to see these wild horses every week in the summer months, which makes horses a major tourist attraction and a major economic activity in the area, but also poses risks to their safety.

Pine Island - Corolla, NC
Located halfway between the Town of Duck and Corolla village, the Pine Island community is unquestionably one of the premiere Outer Banks vacation destinations. Stretching along three and a half miles of exclusive beaches, this narrow strip of land is bordered to the east by the Atlantic Ocean and to the west by a protected National Audubon Society sanctuary and the Currituck Sound. A low density area, Pine Island homes provide a quiet retreat in luxurious estates with upscale amenities, breathtaking views and memorable sunrises and sunsets. Guests to Pine Island enjoy vast recreational amenities, including two community pools (an oceanfront pool to the north and a second Oceanside pool in the heart of the community), two tennis courts, a half-court basketball court, and a children's playground and picnic tables. Access to the Pine Island Racquet & Fitness Club is available for a nominal fee, and a paved bike path that borders NC Route 12 is ideal for cyclists, jogging enthusiasts and leisurely evening walks. Those guests in search of upscale leisure will quickly make themselves at home in the prestigious Pine Island community.
Currituck National Wildlife Refuge, North Carolina
This is one of my favorite beach. It is a wildlife refuge .This beach is untouched by man. Various types of wading birds, shorebirds, waterfowl, raptors, mammals (including feral horses), reptiles, and amphibians common to the eastern United States, are found on the refuge. The endangered piping plover and loggerhead sea turtle sometimes nest on refuge beaches and dunes.

Living With Wildlife: Strategies for Nuisance Wildlife in Northeastern North Carolina
This presentation was made on October 18 at the UNC Coastal Studies Institute by Shannon Brooks, Director of the Dare County Cooperative Extension and Chris Turner, District 1 Wildlife Biologist with the NC Wildlife Resources Commission.
This informative presentation is designed to provide all residents of Dare County with information about how to coexist with wildlife, especially in urban areas. Many species of wildlife are welcome visitors to our properties, but some animals wear out their welcome quickly and some are even feared. While urban wildlife helps us maintain our connection with nature, sometimes wildlife ends up in places that are not safe for them or for people and pets with whom they come in contact.
