CVSR Brecksville Station, set against the scenic Route 82 bridge over the Cuyahoga River Valley, is one of several stations modeled after historic train stations within Cuyahoga Valley National Park.
Based on a track bed and rails originally laid down around 1880, right-of-way ownership transitioned over the years from Valley Railway to Cleveland Terminal & Valley Railroad (CT&V), to the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, to the Chessie System. Currently, the National Park Service own the rails and right-of-way within Cuyahoga Valley National Park. CVSR co-operates with Wheeling and Lake Erie Railway (WLE) on operation of the railroad track south of CUVA to Canton. Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad operates their excursion trains in co-operation with both the NPS & WLE.[4][5]
The history of trains in the Cuyahoga Valley stretches back more than 100 years. In 1880, the Valley Railway began operations, transporting coal to Cleveland, Akron, and Canton from the Tuscarawas River Valley and providing passenger service along the way. After a decade of operation, the Valley Railway became part of the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad. In the 20th century, competition from automobiles, trucks, and buses caused the decline of both freight and passenger service. Interest in the line was renewed in 1972 as a scenic excursion route and the Cuyahoga Valley Preservation and Scenic Railway Association was born.

Several Ohio and Erie Canal-oriented organizations in Cleveland, Cuyahoga County and Summit County are pushing for extension of CVSR operations farther North along the Canal corridor into Cleveland. Some other organizations have been researching the feasibility of commuter rail operations between Akron-Canton and Cleveland.
From the current CVSR Rockside station, (other railroads') existing tracks follow the West Bank of the Cuyahoga River to along: Valley Belt Road, Bradley Road, Jennings Road, Steelyard Drive, Holmden Avenue, Quigley Road; Crossing over the Cuyahoga River on the railroad draw bridge near Quigley and West 3rd., then follow the east bank of the Cuyahoga River to Canal Road near Commercial Road, ending up along Canal Road between Ontario Avenue and West 2nd. Street.
One of the big issues to be resolved would be scheduling and controlling access since the tracks through Cleveland and Newburgh Heights are used by freight train traffic, and much of the route above is single track with limited sidings.

Peninsula, Ohio - Cuyahoga Valley National Park
It was a beautiful Saturday afternoon so my family decided to take a day trip to Peninsula, Ohio and the trails of the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. We explored with the kids for quite a while, just missing the train leaving the station. Seems to be a popular trail for bicyclists.

Winter Operations CVSR
Winter Operations on the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad, Feb. of 2008.
For 35 years, and through its vibrant partnerships with the National Park Service and private supporters, the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad has provided a distinctive excursion passenger rail experience along the historic Valley Rail Line to Northeast Ohio's residents and visitors.
Providing service to,through, and within the Cuyahoga Valley National Park CVSR traverses 51 miles, physically linking the cities of Cleveland,Akron, and Canton to the park and each other. No other community amenity in Northeast Ohio does as much to leverage the spectacular scenic, historic, cultural and recreational qualities of our gorgeous Cuyahoga Valley. CVSR is wheelchair accessible through the use of our Fort Mitchell coach, sponsored by Invacare.
CVSR plays an important role in developing a regional approach to the area's travel and tourism industry. In 2007, CVSR transported a record 127,000 riders to special events and recreational activities along and adjacent to Ohio & Erie Canalway. While most were from Ohio, CVSR is attracting an increasing number of riders from other states and countries.
Of particular interest to the business community, navigating the Canalway by rail can provide a distinctive entertainment experience for convention visitors, clients and customers who are in the area for a short time.
Together with the Scenic Byway and the Towpath Trail, CVSR's Iron Spine completes the Canalway's multimodal array of alternative transportation linkages which serve as an economic engine for the communities, businesses and cultural institutions located along its tracks.
An effort to extend service an additional eight miles north from Independence is currently underway, bringing the last leg of the original Valley Rail Line back to its original terminus at Tower City in downtown Cleveland. In 2006 sixteen Northeast Ohio organizations entered into a Memorandum of Understanding in support of this extension.
Once fully extended, CVSR's full potential as a regional visitor transportation system will be realized, and open up the Canalway and National Park to new constituencies.

Cuyahoga Valley National Park - Hale Farm Artisans - Park Travel Review
At the Cuyahoga Valley's southwestern edge sits an impressive three-story red brick house surrounded by 140 acres of fields, gardens, and woods. Familiar to many school children, it is a now popular regional attraction that overlooks a recreated historical village.
The artisans and crafters that demonstrated their crafts while we visited were, the blacksmith, the glass blower, wool spinner, and the wool dyer.
Hale Farm and Village is a historic property of the Western Reserve Historical Society in Bath Township, Summit County, Ohio, United States. It is within the boundaries of the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. The address is: 2686 Oak Hill Rd, Bath, OH 44210

Amanda's 35th Birthday on the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad [2019]
1. Happy birthday to my sister! #firstandmostimportantly
2. The party car, aka coach, did not under-deliver. Honestly I expected the extent of the party to be the playing of hit music instead of soft rock, but instead it was a non-stop barrage of lights, music, props, and generally humorous safety instructions. What an excellent staff on the train! #cvsrpartycar #forthewin #ridecvsr
3. Sometimes I wonder about the strange exposure the Dunn family is getting from hanging with the Becks.????????♂️#wedunnknowhowtoact
4. I love my family and am grateful for the memories we make together! #iwannabeabeck
