Cape Town Cycle Tour 2019
This is the long edit of the 2019 Cape Town Cycle Tour.
The footage starts from Paradise Motors and runs until the bottom of Smits which is when the battery died. I started in Group 1F and we caught group 1E and possibly some of 1D during this time.
It was super windy on the day which made the groups huge. For the most part i tried to keep in the top third of the pack and even there you will see a breaking and speed variation as the front runners take the hills and get battered by the strong gusts of wind.
By the time the day was done and dusted I came home in a time of 3h25 which puts me 1 371 out of 23 028 competitors. A new PR in less than favorable conditions makes all the training and hard work worth while.
See you again next year for number 17 :)
Shot on my GoPro Hero 3+ Silver and Edited in Garmin Virb.
...and yes, I do need to get rid of the irritating rattle somehow!

Cape Town Cycle Tour 2016 Route
This is a hyperlapse of the standard Cape Town Cycle Tour route from the end of the M3 (Blue Route) to the Finish Line.
I filmed this on my bike over 3 separate rides (battery limitations) to try and give a realistic perception of the undulations and relative speed. Hopefully it will give non-locals a decent idea on the route that they'll be riding albeit that the atmosphere is severely lacking in this clip and the cars will be non-existent on the day.
The hyperlapse processing has been the most difficult to do with this project as it just cant process a 12 GB/3 Hour clip in one go. Instead I had to process 23 short clips and then join them afterwards which is why you can now see the transitions in-between the clips.
Thanks to Microsoft Research for the Hyperlapse Trial Software as well as 7obu for the backing music.
Cape Peninsula Day Trip by Bike (not the best idea on a Sunday!)
The glorious spring weather in Cape Town had us heading out on the bike for the day. In retrospect not the best move as the rest of Cape Town had the same idea! :-)
After breakfast at Hudson's (Vredenheim Estate) just outside Stellenbosch, we took the coastal route all along False Bay (past Muizenberg, Fish Hoek, and Simonstown) to Cape Point.
Two Oceans restaurant at Cape Point turned us away as the 'deck is closed due to bad weather - disappointing. Especially as it's the ONLY restaurant.
At around 4:50 in the video you will see something that happens all too often around Cape Point - very aggressive baboons accosting anyone carrying foodstuffs. This time it was funny but please take care when you visit Cape Point to NEVER carry food around and be very careful when you have any handbags or backpacks as the baboons will steal it from you in a flash.

South African Spirit - Cape Argus Cycle tour 2019.
The spirit at the Cape Argus tour is always fantastic, and I find such an integral part of the South African fabric (when politicians aren't around to inflame situations).
I was in town early, parked nearby to shoot some stills, and decided I had to capture this moment.
Warrior On Wheels Buggy Teams prepare for Cape Town Cycle Tour 2018
On Sunday 11 March 2018 nine differently-abled children, ranging from eight- to twenty-years-old and with varying disabilities, will share in the spirit and camaraderie of the iconic Cape Town Cycle Tour 2018 towed by able-bodied cyclists in specially manufactured buggies.
Partnering with Cape Town Tourism on this event for the second year, and with new buggies sponsored in 2018 by The Diamond Works Institute, CapeNature, Enterprise Solutions 365, and Pedal Power Association, the Warrior On Wheels Foundation aims to promote universal access in tourism and sporting events while giving the gift of adventure to some brave children who wouldn’t otherwise have the opportunity of participating in an event of this nature.

South Africa Trip, June 2017
In June GAGA's Director Sarah, was joined on a trip to South Africa by a group of 6 students from the University of Leeds, as well as Laura who works at the University.
The students were able to visit the projects we support in South Africa, and got involved in a wide variety of tasks. They also had the chance to explore some of the wonderful Kwa Zulu Natal.
One of the students, Lizzie Heiser, put together this video showing the groups adventure.
This video is a students perspective of the trip, and shows a snapshot of the happy memories they'll take away from their time in South Africa. Each of the students also did some fundraising prior to the trip and raised over £850 for GAGA UK in total.
