Lake Tahoe, DL Bliss State Park
DL Bliss State Park is on the West Shore, or California side, of Lake Tahoe... this flight is just North of the park over the boulder fields, down to the lake and back. The emerald green color is caused by shallow depths, a sandy bottom and ultra clear water... especially apparent when the surface of the lake is calm. ~LTG
Rubicon Trail Hiking through D.L. Bliss State Park - Lake Tahoe, CA
The Rubicon Trail is a delightful easy hike that includes level walking, stunning views of Emerald Bay and Lake Tahoe, and quiet forests along the way. It can be done as a long 8 mile round trip or, by shuttling a car, as a pleasant 4 mile jaunt. In the spring, snow plants push their way through the duff to add a splash of red to the constant blue, green and brown landscape.
Emerald Bay is located a few miles north of South Lake Tahoe on Highway 89 and D.L. Bliss State Park just 4miles beyond that. This trail can be started at either end. To hike one direction, shuttle a car to D. L Bliss State Park (fee required) making sure to park in the lot closest to the trail head as the walk back to the entrance station from the trail is 2 miles of steady climbing. Then, return to the Vikingsholm parking area at Emerald Bay.

South Lake Tahoe, California - Emerald Bay State Park HD (2014)
Emerald Bay State Park is a state park of California, USA, preserving Lake Tahoe's Emerald Bay, a National Natural Landmark. Park features include Eagle Falls and Vikingsholm, a 38-room mansion that is considered one of the finest examples of Scandinavian architecture in the United States. The architect was Leonard Palme, who was hired by his aunt Laura Knight to design and build Vikingsholm. The park contains the only island in Lake Tahoe, Fannette Island. The park is accessible by California State Route 89 near the southwest shore of the lake. Emerald Bay is one of Lake Tahoe's most photographed and popular locations.
In 1969 Emerald Bay was recognized as a National Natural Landmark by the federal Department of the Interior. In 1994 California State Parks included the surrounding water of the bay as a part of the park, making Emerald Bay one of the first underwater parks of its type in the state, protecting the various wrecks and other items on the bay's bottom.
The 1,533-acre (620 ha) park was established in 1953. It is located directly south of D. L. Bliss State Park.
Summer temperatures at the park range from the low 40 °F (4 °C) at night to mid-70 °F (21 °C) during the day, and during the winter visitors will usually experience temperatures between 20 and 40 °F (−7 and 4 °C). During harsh winters the bay freezes over. The bay is about 1.7 miles (2.7 km) in length, and about two-thirds of a mile (1 km) wide at its widest point.

Let's Go To Vikingsholm
Nestled within tall cedars and pines and upon the shore of Emerald Bay sits this majestic Scandinavian summer house which was built for Lora Josephine Knight in 1929.
While driving on the Californian side of Lake Tahoe, you can park above and take a one-mile hike down towards the shore where tours during the summer months are offered to those who wish to see this well preserved mansion. You can also boat in and park along the shore, as well as visit Fanette Island, Tahoe's only island, to climb to the top and see Mrs. Knight's original tea cottage, the stone remains are still there.

D.L. Bliss State Parks Rubicon Trail - Part 21 Vikingsholm Castle
From the point if you look southward you can see the very historic Vikingsholm Castle also not to far away is Tahoe's only island called Fannette. But in this video I mainly focus on the castle you will also see many boaters. We have visited the castle and hiked to it from the cliffs that reside behind it at one time. The castle was built in the 1900's with Mrs Lora Knight's wealth and had her love for Scandinavia incorporated into its architecture. Prior to that the area belonged to Ben Holladay who built a summer home then later sold the land in 1884 to Dr. Kirby who established a resort nearby then eventually the Armstrong's in 1895. So their is allot of history to the area in addition to the beauty its surrounded by.
If you want to see more about Eagle Falls which resides behind the castle and learn more in depth about its history come visit that expedition at paranormalghostsociety.org/EmeraldBay.htm

Lake Tahoe Vacation Travel Guide
Lake Tahoe Vacation Travel Guide
Filled with over 39 trillion gallons of pure Sierra snowmelt and pushed a mile into the Californian and Nevada skies, Lake Tahoe is the USA’s largest alpine lake and one of the country’s oldest, year-round vacation playgrounds.
Lake Tahoe has forever drawn travellers to its shores, from the Native Americans who call this place Big Water, to the trappers, timber cutters and pioneers who followed.
When you’re ready for a little alpine magic, take the four-hour drive from San Francisco to the sunlit shores of Kings Beach. Set on Tahoe’s northern end, this beach was named after local card shark, Joe King, who used his winnings to develop some of the lake’s earliest lodgings. On the lake’s southern shore, is Pope Beach, where you’ll find another Tahoe institution, Camp Richardson.
From Pope Beach follow the bike path to the Taylor Creek Visitor Center. An open-air classroom for the entire family, the center features fabulous interpretative walks such as the Rainbow Trail.
Nearby, at DL Bliss State Park, follow the spectacular Rubicon Trail into neighboring Emerald Bay State Park. This park is home to the Eagle Falls Trail, a moderate two-mile hike that takes in some of the Sierra high country’s finest views.
When the ponderosa pines bend with the season’s first snow, Tahoe transforms into the nation’s favorite winter playground. Whether you’re looking for snow-capped peaks or crystal clear coves, places to bond with loved ones or pockets of pure solitude, The Lake in the Sky has it all.

Lake Tahoe Vacation Travel Guide
Lake Tahoe (DJI)
I decided to bring along my DJI Phantom and Sony Action Cam for my two week trip from Florida to the West Coast. In this first episode me and my wife Dora explore Lake Tahoe and it's surrounding areas. We visit Eagle Falls, D.L. Bliss State Park, Sand Harbor & Sierra at Tahoe. This Video was shot in mid-December 2014. I did have issues with my drone batteries freezing up and dying at like 70%. I do not recommend flying if temperature is under freezing.
Lake Tahoe is a large freshwater lake in the Sierra Nevada of the United States. At a surface elevation of 6,225 ft, it is located along the border between California and Nevada, west of Carson City. Lake Tahoe is the largest alpine lake in North America. Its depth is 1,645 ft, making it the second deepest in the United States after Crater Lake (1,945 ft). Additionally, Lake Tahoe is the sixth largest lake by volume in the United States at 122,160,280 acre·ft, behind the five Great Lakes.
The lake was formed about 2 million years ago and is a part of the Lake Tahoe Basin with the modern lake being shaped during the ice ages. It is known for the clarity of its water and the panorama of surrounding mountains on all sides. The area surrounding the lake is also referred to as Lake Tahoe, or simply Tahoe. More than 75% of the lake's watershed is national forest land, comprising the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit of the United States Forest Service.
Lake Tahoe is a major tourist attraction in both Nevada and California. It is home to a number of ski resorts, summer outdoor recreation, and tourist attractions. Snow and skiing are a significant part of the area's economy and reputation. Mountain and lake scenery are attractions throughout the year. The Nevada side also includes large casinos. Highways provide year-round access from Reno, Carson City, and Sacramento. (Wiki)
