Visiting Dalí’s House Is Just...Surreal
If you’re a traveler, you find yourself visiting the homes of lots of dead people. My favorites are the studios of artists (painters, sculptors, composers) — and perhaps the best of all is Salvador Dalí's home in Cadaqués, Spain. In this clip, you’ll experience Dalí’s house with me: his crazy entryway, his penis-shaped pool, his studio (where he cleverly innovated an easel that could be raised and lowered, so he could paint while staying seated), and his delightful bedroom. At the entry, a statue of a warrior with a small child coming out of it greets visitors — a reminder to leave your aggressive spirit out and enter as a playful child.
I’m always impressed by how many of my favorite creative people were powered by their muse...their own Yoko Onos. It’s lots of fun to see the world Dalí created with his muse, Gala, and to consider the norms they trashed. Join me for a look at their home where, together, they would wake up and be the first in Spain to see the sunrise.

Less than 2 kilometers from Cadaques is an easy walk to one of the many Salvador Dali Museums. Dali actually lived and worked in the Cadaques area from his childhood on, experimenting and going through many different artistic phases.
You can only visit this house/museum by prior appointment and since we didn't know that before coming, contented ourselves with strolling the outside premises that included extensive olive groves and magnificent scenery. Love or hate Dali, his work is never boring.

Dalí is one of most famous artists of the 20th century and he changed the world with his fabulous surrealist imagery and flamboyant personality. Figueres is the town where Dali was born and died. The Dali Theatre museum was created by Salvador Dalí himself in his home town. Dali was born a few streets away from the musuem and he passed away living in the museum complex where he is now buried. The Portlligat Museum-House is the house in Port Lligat, Catalonia, Spain where Salvador Dalí often lived and worked from 1930 to 1982, until upon the death of his wife Gala Dalí, he took up residence at Púbol Castle.
The Dali Museum House has a labyrinthine structure which from one point of departure, the Bear Lobby, spreads out and winds around in a succession of zones linked by narrow corridors, slight changes of level, and blind passageways.
All the rooms of Dali Museum House have windows of different shapes and proportions framing the same landscape that is a constant point of reference in Dalí’s work: the Portlligat bay.

El recorrido por la Casa Museo de Dalí en Portlligat (Cadaqués), tiene lugar en grupos no superiores a 10 personas, y está organizado en tres tramos de diez minutos de duración cada uno; ya quisiera yo haber tenido más tiempo para grabar ;-)
El orden que se presenta en el vídeo es el mismo que se sigue al visitar la Casa Museo Dalí.
Los exteriores de la casa, que forman parte de otro vídeo que también puedes ver, se pueden recorrer sin restricciones de tiempo.
La Casa Museo Salvador Dalí se encuentra en el municipio de Cadaqués (Gerona), en la cala de Portlligat. Se trata de un conjunto de barracas de pescadores que el artista de Figueres fue comprando, uniendo y reformando entre 1930 y 1972.
En lo que hoy es su Casa Museo, Dalí vivió y creó una parte importante de su obra. Allí puedes ver, en su taller, dos obras inacabadas. Dalí se trasladó al Castillo de Púbol, tras la muerte de su esposa Gala, en 1982, y nunca más regresó a Cadaqués.
