Hommage an Edward Kienholz
Edward Kienholz (* 23. Oktober 1927 in Fairfield, Washington; † 10.

Richard Timperio Color Me Gone at JANET KURNATOWSKI GALLERY
Richard Timperio has been a activating force in the Williamsburg arts community for decades. With his Sideshow Gallery, a Brooklyn bellwether venue, he's presented hundreds of artists, and provided exhibition opportunities for people denied exposure by the Manhattan Establishment. As a fan of Car Culture, and classic Rock-n-Roll, Timperio's paintings have all the punch of a top fuel dragster, or the amplified urgency of a three cord riff. Using watered-down acrylic on paper and unprimed canvas, Timperio states his painting practice is like a performance, where the artist has to get it right in one shot. In this program, Richard Timperio gives an extended interview and tour of his show Color Me Gone.

Spring at the Turchin Center brings hemlocks, sculpture, photography and alumni
The Turchin Center for the Visual Arts stands as a pivotal cultural connection between Appalachian and the High Country community. With 25 exhibits, numerous lectures and seemingly countless workshops presented each year, Brook Bower, the museum's assistant curator, proclaims: The Turchin Center's program offerings are the most diverse of any you will find in the High Country.
The museum offers auxiliary classrooms and discussion topics that, given its current exhibitions, range from the environmental impact of invasive species, to what it means to construct complex stories out of simple commodities, to what Appalachia is to its visitors and citizens, to how Appalachian graduates are using their art degrees. On any given day, these, and many more conversations take place among the works at the Turchin Center.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain

Public Art Fund Talks at The New School: Tom Friedman
The New School, a university in New York City, offers distinguished degree, certificate, and continuing education programs in art and design, liberal arts, management and policy, and the performing arts. THE NEW SCHOOL |
Sculptor Tom Friedman makes the ordinary extraordinary. He often does this by playing with certain characteristics of a familiar object—its properties or representation—and turning its common and insignificant properties into something notable and arresting. Part philosopher, part craftsman with a sense of humor, Friedman also pays acute attention to how both everyday items and works of art are perceived. For viewers looking at Friedman's work one of the first questions that often springs to mind is, How did he do that? His work has been presented in numerous exhibitions in the United States and abroad, including the Museum of Art, Rhode Island School of Design (2008); Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum, St Louis (2006); South London Gallery, London (2004); and Fondazione Prada, Milan (2002).

William Powhida - Visual Artist & Former Art Critic
William Powhida makes fun of the art world to highlight the paradoxes and absurdities of economic and social value systems that keep the sphere of visual art afloat on a surging tide of inequality. His work relies on research and participation to diagram, list, perform and critique the forces that shape perceptions of value. He is responsible or partly responsible for exhibitions including After The Contemporary at The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, Month2Month with Jennifer Dalton, Overculture at Postmasters Gallery, and Hashtag Class [#class] with Jennifer Dalton at Winkleman Gallery. His recent exhibition After After the Contemporary was on view at Charlie James Gallery this spring and he will be exhibiting in November at Gallery Poulsen in Copenhagen.
Powhida is an infrequent contributor to Art F City and Hyperallergic on issues that alarm him and a member of the Artists Studio Affordability Project, an artist-led advocacy group working towards commercial rent regulation. He is also the co-host of Explain Me, a biweekly podcast with Paddy Johnson exploring the intersection of art, money and politics.
He is currently represented by Postmasters Gallery (NY), Charlie James Gallery (LA), Poulsen Gallery (DK), and Platform Gallery (WA). He holds a BFA in Painting from Syracuse University and an MFA in painting from Hunter College. His work has been written about in The New York Times, Artforum, Art in America, The Los Angeles Times, Hyperallergic, Art F City, The Guardian, The New Yorker, New York magazine and October, among other publications.
