Heaven Linking Road, Tianmen Mountain | The Road of 99 Turns, China
The Big Gate Road, Tianmen Mountain - The Heaven Linking Road, China The Big Gate Road also known as heaven linking road, located in the National Park of Tianmenshan, in the Hunan province of China. The Heaven linking road rather this is most dangerous road in China. It starts south of Zhangjiajie city 200 meters above sea level and rises to 1,300 meters, with 99 blind turns, Sure, this increases the chances that you might end up in heaven in your car. It is little wonder then that the road which was started in 1998 took eight years to complete. Its twists and turns are certainly not for the faint hearted. The road climbs Tianmen Mountain just south of Zhangjiajie City (which was previously called Dayong) is very much the must see scenic area in Hunan.
It is also called the road of 99 turns – nine is a lucky number in China as it symbolizes that heaven has nine palaces. If the road is a little too scary for you, there is an alternative. A cable car goes from of Zhangjiajie City to the top of Tianmen Mountain. Sounds like out of the frying pan and in to the fire – the cable-way is 7455 meters in length making it, so the Chinese claim, the longest in the world

Natural Wonders - Heaven's Gate (China)
Tianmen Shan (Heaven's Gate Mountain) is a cave natural arch eroded through a karst syncline. It is located about 8 km south of the city of Zhangjiajie (formerly Dayong) in northern Hunan Province, China. It is accessed from Zhangjiajie by what may be the world's longest skytram (7.5 km) that leads to a bus ride on a very winding road, followed by a set of stairs with 999 steps. The last few of these steps are shown in the photo above.

Zhangjiajie City was called Dayong City before, and early in the Neolithic Age, there were human activities beside its river, the Lishui River. Zhangjiajie is the first administrative region in Hunan Province and has a long history. It belonged to Jingchu in Shang and Zhou Dynasties, and was in Chu's territory in Spring and Autumn Period.
During the war of resistance against Japan, it was a relatively important revolutionary base. There are memorial sites such as He Long's former residence and the memorial hall of the revolutionary base area of Hunan, Hubei, Sichuan and Guizhou.

Beauty of Nature Zhangjiajie
Zhangjiajie
Chinese prefecture-level city
Zhangjiajie, a city in the northwest of China's Hunan province, is home to the famed Wulingyuan Scenic Area. This protected zone encompasses thousands of jagged quartzite sandstone columns, many of which rise over 200m, as well as caves filled with stalactites and stalagmites. Wulingyuan also encompasses forests, rivers, waterfalls and 2 large natural land bridges, as well as endangered plant and animal species.
Weather: 29 °C, Wind E at 14 km/h, 53% Humidity
The city itself was previously named Dayong and has a recorded history dating back to 221 BC. People lived here along both banks of the Lishui River (the mother river in Zhangjiajie), now within the boundaries of Zhangjiajie City, very early during the Stone Age. Human settlement in this region dates back 100,000 years, rivaling such famous sites as Xi’an, Beijing and others. In 1986, the Academy of Chinese Social Science discovered Stone Age relics in Cili County, unearthing 108 articles of stoneware; mostly tapered-form, hacked-tamped and plate-shaped works. According to archaeological experts’ textual research, all of these wares were produced about 100,000 years ago. Shortly thereafter, in 1988, the Archaeological Institute of Hunan Province found other relics in Sangzhi County, including three pieces of stoneware which were estimated to have been fashioned over 100,000 years ago.
Ten thousand years ago, those who lived within the boundaries of what is now Zhangjiajie City employed fire to bake pottery. Archaeologists have found more than 20 relics of this kind in Cili County, while in Sangzhi County, a black clay pot adorned with a unique design was unearthed dating back ten thousand years. During that period, this pottery-firing technique was the most advanced in China.

His works reflect the vitality of city life and visions of crowded streets and jeepney terminals. He sees this rococo-baroque mode of transport as something not only indigenously Filipino but also a microcosm of Philippine life- that is, Where there is a jeepney, there is a life story.
China Clips 2008
Here are some clips from my China trip of August, 2008. We went to Zhangjiajie, Beijing, and Shanghai.
Power Spot 4: Zhangjiajie
Power Spot 4: Zhangjiajie, a guitar solo by Max Ridgway, recorded on June 12, 2015. Zhangjiajie (張家界), a remarkable collection of 3000 naturally-formed stone columns, appearing like a surreal ruined city shrouded in fog. It is located in the Hunan province of China. In ancient times, Zhangjiajie was regarded as remote and inaccessible. The earliest history of Zhangjiajie can be traced back to the Neolithic Age when it was called “Dayong”. The first traces of human activity in this area have been dated to about 100,000 years ago.

Zhangjiajie (simplified Chinese: 张家界; traditional Chinese: 張家界; pinyin: Zhāngjiājiè) also known in Tujia language as Zhangx jif avlar (dzaȵ˩ ji˥ a ˩la˥) is a prefecture-level city in the northwestern part of Hunan province, People's Republic of China. It comprises the district of Yongding, Wulingyuan and counties of Cili and Sangzhi. Within it is located Wulingyuan Scenic Area which was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1992 as well as an AAAAA scenic area by the China National Tourism Administration.
The city itself was previously named Dayong (大庸), and has a recorded history dating back to 221 BC.
These technological advancements in the fashioning of stone tools and pottery would seem to indicate a highly developed culture in this region. However, the society which developed only endured briefly before waning and being superseded by other regional powers. This seems understandable in view of Zhangjiajie's remote geographical position, its undeveloped land and river transportation, and its mountainous terrain making cultivation difficult. For these reasons, Zhangjiajie has been labeled the Land of the Savage Southern Minority since the earliest recorded history. Additional name descriptors have been the Wuling Rude People and Tujia Rude People, indicative of discriminatory views held against the regional culture.
The new name of Zhangjiajie City was adopted in 1994, after the National Forest Park in the Wulingyuan Scenic Area (武陵源) in order to give it more prominence and after this site had been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1992. The National Forest Park had been given the name of Zhangjiajie after the name of a small village located within its bounds, and now a popular tourist attraction within the park. The three-character name (张家界) can be interpreted as follows: Zhang (张) is a common surname in China; jia (家) can be translated as family; and jie (界) can be translated as homeland, giving the completed translation of Zhang family homeland. It has been reported that at least one tourist guide has said that the name may have been chosen to convey the idea or impression of Open the family door to welcome the world (张开家门引进世界), but this is not the locally accepted and directly-translated meaning of the name. The official version of its name is linked to a Han general, Zhang Liang, who resettled in the area after a suspicious Liu Bang, the Han emperor, started to persecute his staffs and generals who had contributed to his becoming emperor. It was so named to signify that the Zhang family had set up home there.
