Our Trip to Dazaifu Shrine Part One (太宰府天満宮に行きましょう!)
Hey everyone! Sorry for the late upload, I took SO much footage during our trip to Dazaifu that I needed to split it up into 2 videos! This one is of the Major shrine itself, the 10th best Starbucks in the whole WORLD, and of course me singing to a turtle. It was good times had by all, and there was much rejoicing!
Next week's video we went off the beaten path... literally. I don't think we were supposed to be where we were, and ended up in the middle of the woods, to a cave Inari shrine, and to adventure! Stay tuned!
If you guys liked this video, be sure to LIKE it, it really helps me out! If you want to see more videos like this, and many others on Japan, Japanese, and Nerd Culture, be sure to SUBSCRIBE to my channel for weekly videos! Also, COMMENT what you want me to visit so I can film it and share it with you!
*If you're looking for my Kirameki - Wacci video, it got too big too fast and got flagged by Sony Japan. I appreciate the love! But unfortunately I'm gonna have to wait a bit for me to make more Japanese to English videos. The other way around should be okay, so if there's a song you want me to do a translation video for, COMMENT or MESSAGE me!

Fukuoka Travel Tips: 6 Things to Know Before You Go to Fukuoka
Things YOU need to know before you travel to Fukuoka Japan. Fukuoka is nearly equidistant to Tokyo, Shanghai and Seoul, it sits on the northern tip of Kyushu, the southernmost of Japan’s four main islands. Fukuoka has a laid-back atmosphere, the friendly people, the relaxed pace of a city large enough, with about 1.4 million people, to have its own attractions but not so large as to be overwhelming. Compared with navigating Tokyo’s busy subway system or hurrying to visit one last shrine in Kyoto before closing time, taking in the sights in Fukuoka actually feels like a vacation
Today's Fukuoka is the product of the fusion of two cities in the year 1889, when the port city of Hakata and the former castle town of Fukuoka were united into one city called Fukuoka. Hakata remains the name of one of Fukuoka's central districts and of the main railway station.
5 - Getting to Fukuoka
Plane - Airport is really close to the city -- 5 minutes on the Subway from the domestic terminal. But 15 minutes by Bus from the International Terminal.
Shinkansen -- 2.5 hours from Osaka
Drive
3- Transportation in Fukuoka
Fukuoka sells unlimited day passes for tourists, making sightseeing easier and affordable. The subway is easy to use, with two main station transfer hubs (for JR trains) and a route to the Fukuoka International Airport. You can buy a single fare (600 yen) or get an unlimited day pass. The station master booth near the turnstile can answer any questions you have.
Fukuoka Tourist Day Passes grants access to each/all the public transportation: 800 yen (adults) affords a pass on Nishitetsu Bus, Showa Bus, JR Train and the Subway, while 1,300 yen gets you an extra usage of the Nishitetsu Train (* takes you out to the Dazaifu Temple Area). I chose the 800 yen pass and was very pleased. Show your passes at events and attractions and you may get a special discount.
4 - Food:
For ramen, most people say Fukuoka is the best,” he said. Two of Japan’s most famous ramen chains, Ichiran and Ippudo, hail from the city. Ramen Stadium on the 5th floor of Canal City. But the one can’t-miss dining experience in Fukuoka is yatai. Yatai are tiny street food carts that are constructed (and deconstructed) nightly. Plastic curtains typically enclose a bare-bones kitchen and minuscule counter around which no more than a dozen or so diners can cram. Many yatai serve basic fare like grilled things-on-sticks or ramen; some supplement counter seating with folding tables and chairs.
Today, there are about 150 operating yatai in Fukuoka, with most clustered along main roads, parks and the riverfront. Because of a law that bans the opening of new yatai, those numbers are dwindling
5 - Shopping:
Canal City is a major shopping complex at 2.5 million square feet, including about 250 shops, restaurants, cafes, cinemas, game center, theater, etc. It even has a canal flowing inside (which explains its name), and a large fountain that has a water show every 30 minutes.
Because the mall is so large, it may take you a whole day to discover everything. If you come to Canal City before May 18th, you can also enjoy the 3D projection mapping show with the popular anime “One Piece” theme, which is quite epic you won’t want to miss it.
By the train station lots of shopping too!!
6- Shrines:
Dazaifu Tenmangu and Kushida Shrine.
Dazaifu Tenmangu is located in Dazaifu city, and it is one of the main shrines in Japan dedicated to Tenjin- the “God” of literature and scholarship. The shrine is very large and includes several structures, so it would take you around 1 hour to visit all the places.
On the contrary, Kushida shrine is located right in the center of Hakata, and since it is a village shrine, it is much smaller than Dazaifu, and this spot will only take you 20 minutes to visit. As the oldest shrine in Fukuoka city, it attracts lots of foreign tourists so you can get the information sheet and even the omikuji (paper fortunes) in English.

FUKUOKA Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine - 4k walk video / japan happy new year / japan Countryside Shrine
Walking videos.
Walked in the new year
Dazaifu (大宰府) was established in the late 7th century and served as the administrative center of the entire island of Kyushu for over 500 years. The city was built slightly inland from Hakata, whose port was one of the main points of interaction between Japan and mainland Asia. Although the imperial court ruled the country from the Kansai Region, Dazaifu was pivotal for Japan's diplomatic relations and organizing the country's defenses.
Nowadays, Dazaifu is a small, quiet city on the outskirts of the large city of Fukuoka, from which it is perfect for a day trip. There are a number of temples and shrines, the most famous of which is the Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, as well as sites related to Dazaifu's role as the region's administrative center, such as the Government Office Ruins. In 2005 the massive Kyushu National Museum was opened to the public, making a great new addition to the city's attractions.
++Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine++
Among the hundreds of Tenmangu Shrines throughout Japan, Dazaifu's (大宰府天満宮, Dazaifu Tenmangū) is the most important one alongside Kyoto's Kitano Tenmangu. Tenmangu Shrines are dedicated to the spirit of Sugawara Michizane, a scholar and politician of the Heian Period. Because of his great learning, Michizane has been associated with Tenjin, a Shinto deity of education, and is popular among students.
Michizane displayed his remarkable talents from a young age, and had already begun composing poetry by the age of eleven. His political career developed quickly, and he was able to gain much influence within the imperial court, which was then dominated by the Fujiwara clan. However, his rise to power resulted in rivalries between Michizane and the Fujiwara, which ultimately resulted in Michizane's exile from the capital city of Kyoto to the far-off government office of Dazaifu.
Michizane passed away in Dazaifu in 903, just a few years after being sent into exile. Shortly after his death the country was ravaged by natural disasters, and people came to believe that the calamities were caused by the wrathful spirit of Michizane, still angered by his unjust treatment. Offerings were made to the spirit of Michizane and the tradition of Tenmangu Shrines was begun. The Tenmangu Shrine in Dazaifu was built on the site of his grave.
Tenmangu Shrine is located about 250 meters from Dazaifu Station, and the entire length of the approach is lined with shops that cater to the shrine's visitors. The shrine is rather large, stretching about 250 meters from one end to the other. After passing through the torii gate at the entrance, visitors will come across a pond that was built in the shape of the Japanese character for heart. A path leads across two arched bridges and islands which represent the past, present and future.
After crossing the bridges, visitors approach a walled courtyard with the shrine's main hall (honden), whose current building dates back to 1591. The plum tree standing on the right of the main hall is the legendary tobiume (flying plum tree), which according to tradition flew from Kyoto to Dazaifu to accompany Michizane into exile. Michizane was fond of plum trees, and plum trees are typically found at Tenmangu Shrines. There are as many as 6000 of them on the grounds of Dazaifu Tenmangu, and are typically in bloom from late February to mid March.
A wide range of good luck charms can be purchased from the shops around the main hall. Most popular are education related charms which are supposed to help students pass exams. The shrine enjoys great popularity among students especially during the entrance exam season, when enormous amounts of ema charms can be seen hanging on the shrine grounds.
Between the pond and the main hall stands the Dazaifu Tenmangu Museum, which houses and displays many of the shrine's treasures. And behind the main hall is the small Kanko Historical Museum, which displays the main events in the life of Michizane in small dioramas. Although the signs are written in Japanese, an English pamphlet is available that has explanations for each scene.
For travelers inspired by Michizane's example of dedicated study, more extensive learning can be done at the nearby Kyushu National Museum. A direct path to the museum has been constructed at the southeastern end of the shrine grounds.

MaryLourd's Travel Vlog
April 9, 2019
Day 1 of our travel to Fukuoka, Japan:
We took a grab car from Quezon City to NAIA Terminal 3. It took us just 1 hour since April 9 is Araw ng Kagitingan. We had our lunch at NAIA Terminal 3 food court where there are a lot of food to choose from based on your budget. :)
We landed in Fukuoka, Japan around 6pm Japan time. Japan is ahead of 1 hour to the Philippines. We chose to take the cab from Fukuoka airport to our airbnb since it was already 7pm when we got out from the airport.
After we settled to our airbnb unit, we went out to buy food in nearest convenience store, Family Mart. Yes! they have Family Mart and 7-11 stores around the area so walang iinit ang ulo sa gutom :D
TIP #1: In choosing an accommodation, you may choose those near Hakata Station if you're going to places like Nagasaki and Kumamoto.
TIP #2: When traveling especially in countries with different languages, please make sure to bring a translated version of your destination for easier communication.

A direct bus connects Fukuoka (Hakata Bus Center) with Dazaifu (Dazaifu Station) every 20-30 minutes. The one way ride takes about 45 minutes and costs 600 yen. Along the way, the bus also stops at Fukuoka Airport (International Terminal) from where it takes 30 minutes and costs 500 yen to Dazaifu.
