Restoring DeGrazia
2017 Emmy Winner
A mysterious mural in a Tucson backyard turns out to be the largest Ted DeGrazia mural still in existence. It was originally painted by the artist in 1948 or 1949 and gives us a glimpse into DeGrazia’s mind before his fame and fortune. Nearly 70 years later, the mural had started to succumb to the elements. Fine Art conservator, Charlie Burton was brought in to restore it. She worked on the mural three days a week for six months and logged 240 hours bringing it back to life.

De Grazia: The Man and the Myths
Jim and Marilyn Johnson talk about the making of their book, the first ever comprehensive biography of artist and Tucson legend Ted De Grazia. Filmed at the De Grazia Gallery in the Sun in Tucson, Arizona.
gallery in the sun
“The gallery was designed by me. I wanted to have the feeling of the Southwest. I wanted to build it so that my paintings would feel good inside.” – Ettore “Ted” DeGrazia
What started as a small construction project in the early 1950s developed into a 10-acre National Historic District designed and built by acclaimed Arizona artist Ettore “Ted” DeGrazia.
When the town of Tucson grew near to his first studio on Campbell Avenue and Prince Road, DeGrazia and his wife Marion, a sculptor from Upstate New York, bought the isolated foothills property in the early 1950s to escape the encroachment.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.

A day with Ted De Grazia
We went to the De Grazia Gallery. It's one of those treasures we have that not a lot of people know about. Give yourself at least two hours, and latch yourself to one of the docents because you have to hear the story about a Tortilla that Ted drew on.
