Texas Jim Robertson Automatic Woman
Texas Jim appeared as Clovis Garrett in a Broadway comedy called Out West of Eighth, which ran for a grand total of 4 nights from Sep 20, 1951 - Sep 22, 1951 at the Ethel Barrymore Theater -- or Theatre as it was known. One of Jim's co-stars was the late Dennis McCloud Weaver, who appeared in the role of Virgil Lavendar.
James Battle Texas Jim Robertson was born February 2, 1909 near Batesville, Texas. He recorded more than one hundred sides for RCA Victor and Bluebird during the 1940s but never released a 12 LP. When Robertson was not joined by his band, the Panhandle Punchers, sidemen on his recordings included Roy Wiggins, Andy Sanella, and Vaughn Horton on steel guitar, some with Chet Atkins on electric guitar, and probably Jethro Burns on mandolin. Robertson was reported dead by suicide in 1966 at age 57. One year later, a man named Clifford Kent begins performing in Fort Worth and claims to be Texas Jim Robertson. He tells of a fire in his New York city apartment and his wish to change his identity. Clifford Kent continues to perform in Fort Worth until the early 1970s.
Excerpts from the liner notes of his 1959 Golden Hits of Country & Western Music LP on Design: When we discuss high standards, we immediately come to the name, Texas Jim Robertson.Let's examine this 6 foot 3 inch baritone. Born in 1916 on his folk's ranch in Batesville, Texas, he was christened James Battle Robertson. When Tex turned 16, he went to visit an aunt in Bat Cave, North Carolina. Needing money for [the] return trip, he looked around. No one required a cowboy on their tobacco farm.... but he kept on looking till one day a Goldsboro paper ran the following ad. Wanted—
guitar playing cowboy singer—must be authentic and sing songs of the west. The address was a radio station in Charlotte, North Carolina.... part of Jim's training included playing the guitar, banjo and mandolin. His dad taught him all that plus the kind of songs every cowboy had to know. Jim started work the next day. N.B.C. ... brought him into New York for his first network show. Then, he became an actor...remember the deep low male voice on Lone Journey, Against the Storm, Death Valley Days and the villain on Dick Tracy, they were great radio serials. The year was 1937...
On January 29, 1950 Jim, along with Bob Crosby and Betty Anne Grove, was a guest on The Paul Whiteman's Goodyear Revue (It was episode 12 of the TV series that ran 1949--1952).
There is a first hand account here from a woman who knew Jim when he lived in Nyack, N.Y. circa 1943. It reads in part: Got to meet his wife, and baby girl. Read a few years later that the child was killed by a car. I first saw him performing in a Jamaica theatre, and thought he was a wonderful singer. I also saw (?) him perform on his radio show. He was a lovely man, and a gentleman.
The Texas Jim Robertson Fan Club Journal for June 7, 1951 recorded a performance of the Sons of the Pioneers (Ken Curtis/Tommy Doss edition) at Carnegie Hall (but nothing about TJR) on the Bob Nolan site here Elsewhere on the same site there's a mention that the Pioneers appeared on The Perry Como Show, Texas Jim Robertson's show and the Steve Allen Show. Presumably also in June 1951.
Jim appeared on the SOURWOOD MOUNTAIN episode of the NBC radio series Hillbilly Heart-Throbs (later renamed Dreams of Long Ago) which was created and written by Ethel Park Richardson between 1927 and 1942. Sourwood Mountain starred Geoffrey Bryant, Helen Claire, John Hamilton, Thomas Coffin Cook, Frank Vass, Texas Jim Robertson, Ethel Park Richardson, The Vass Family and originally aired August 22, 1937. The radio drama was an adaptation of Paul Jordan Smith's novel, Nomad.
Two episodes later TJR was back on air in BONNIE DUNDEE (September 5, 1937) alongside John Anthony, Helen Claire, Curtis Arnall, Clayton Bud Collyer, Fred Irving Lewis, John Wheele, The Richardson Singers--- aka Bella Allen, Texas Jim Robertson, George Petrie, Wally Russell.
He appeared in at least a couple of other episodes. More about Hillbilly Heartthrobs here

Dry Dock Brewing Co.
Dry Dock Brewing Company was founded in October 2005 when owners Michelle and Kevin DeLange leased an 800 sq ft space next to their homebrew shop, The Brew Hut, in Aurora, CO. The tiny brewery quickly got people's attention the next spring when Dry Dock won Gold at the 2006 World Beer Cup for its HMS Victory ESB (now Amber Ale).
Expanding in 2009 and again in 2011, Dry Dock currently runs a 7 BBL brewhouse including a tasting room with 180 seats and 16 taps at its original location on Hampden Ave. in Aurora.
In January 2013, Dry Dock opened a production facility with a 40 BBL brewhouse and canning line in a second, 30,000 sq ft facility, to produce beers for distribution throughout Colorado. Dry Dock's production has grown from 300 barrels in 2006 to 3,200 in 2012. With the new facility, they will produce about 11,000 BBL in 2013. They have also continued to win medals at both the World Beer Cup and the Great American Beer Festival, including Small Brewing Company of the Year in 2009.

Lost Flowers: True Stories of the Moonshine King Percy Flowers
Movie Trailer styled preview of the Book Lost Flowers by author Perry D. Sullivan
Lost Flowers: True Stories of the Moonshine King, Percy Flowers is the never-before-told account of the notorious North Carolina bootlegger, as recalled by his son, Perry Sullivan. In the backwoods of Clayton, North Carolina, in the first half of the twentieth century, life may have been harsh, but whiskey could be found that was smooth, clear, and potent. Especially if it was the product of moonshine kingpin Joshua Percy Flowers, the legendary bootlegger who amassed a small fortune from the making of white lightning. Flowers' son, Perry Sullivan, breaks decades of silence to share his firsthand account of the whiskey making, cockfighting, and foxhound-racing ways of this rough-hewn but surprisingly wise wheeler and dealer. Lost Flowers: True Stories of the Moonshine King, Percy Flowers offers a poignant glimpse into a world that time has all but forgotten, recounting both the painful experiences and abiding lessons learned from a hard-bitten man who boasted 200-proof authenticity. Reflective, gentle, and peppered with folksy humor, this colorful story set in the Deep South lays bare the author's own secret as the unacknowledged son of the famous bootlegger. Told through the eyes of Perry Sullivan, the memoir is addressed to his own two sons, with the intention of passing on the wisdom he gleaned from his early years. The author ultimately managed to escape the shackles of the poverty stricken and racist ways of the era, and now shares his singular tale from a mature and educated viewpoint. Appealing to history buffs, lovers of Southern culture, and any parent who wants to impart sound wisdom to their children. Author Perry Sullivan's account sheds light and gives credit to men who overcame hardships that would cripple most people. He ultimately seeks to bring closure and healing to those who have hidden in the shadows of societal secrets, and he offers inspiration and sage advice, Southern style.
