MOUNT HOOD NATIONAL FOREST USA
Mount Hood and the Columbia Gorge symbolize the natural beauty of Oregon, yet much of these amazing landscapes remain unprotected. The mountain's high-elevation snowfields have received Wilderness designation, but the more biologically diverse lower flanks and surrounding ridges remain unprotected. Through cutting-edge technology and the efforts of more than 500 volunteers, Oregon Wild has identified unprotected natural areas in the Mount Hood National Forest over the past decade and sought federal Wilderness designation to preserve them.
In January 2009, Oregon Senators Ron Wyden (D) and Jeff Merkley (D) introduced legislation that would give Wilderness protection to 127,000 acres and designate 80 miles of rivers around Mount Hood and in the Columbia Gorge as Wild and Scenic Rivers.
The compromise plan includes the scenic canyons along White River, the biologically diverse forests of Fifteenmile Creek, the old-growth forest surrounding Roaring River and the beautiful whitewater of the East Fork of the Hood River.
The Lewis and Clark Mount Hood Wilderness is an important step toward preserving the scenic beauty, biodiversity, clean drinking water and unparalleled recreational opportunities for future generations of Oregonians.
State Police Interrupt a Gold Mining Operation in Oregon!
Our mining claim neighbors called the Cops! People living on the other side of the river where our mining claim is and not liking our mining, called the cops. It appears our neighbors just did not want their liberal utopia disturbed so they call the cops to harass us. The police were very cool as I knew one of them from checking our permits on another river couple months earlier and an Oregon DEQ meeting he showed up at. The rude lady yells to at from other side of river you need a permit to do that...we had them of course. She also told cops we were disrespecful and rude to her...which was totally false. She made up her own narrative about what was happening to justify her being annoyed. Liberal tactic # 3, change the narrative or just plain lie!
This is the short version of the video, filmed on the Applegate River in Oregon while we were LEGALLY GOLD MINING!
In the video, it is a continuous video, shot on my GoPro camera that I was wearing on my head. The video shows me mining and moving around with no editing to show what actually goes on while mining. Then my buddy is helping me move rocks while I'm using a sub-surface dredge...then the cops show up , and I tell him is where the action starts.
UPDATE Jan 1st, 2015: In response to some of the comments saying we are uneducated, rednecks and other stuff...the guys in the video are as follows. One is a millionaire CPA, another a self employed business owner, two others are also self employed and owns a body shop and the other an internet marketer and freelance videographer, and lastly one is the son of the CPA guy and currently in college.
Oregon Mining Law:
Next time this happens, I will ask the State Police to cite the offending people who disrupt our mining operation based on this Oregon Mining Law:
ORS 517.133 Interfering with a mining operation. (1) As used in this section, lawful mining operation means any small scale mining operation that is in full compliance with state and federal laws.
(2) A person commits the crime of interfering with a mining operation if the person intentionally:
(a) Interferes with a lawful mining operation; or
(b) Stops, or causes to be stopped, a lawful mining operation.
(3) Interfering with a mining operation is a Class C misdemeanor. [1999 c.354 §6]

Thurston Hills Natural Area development officially gets underway
SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – A large, forested tract at the east end of Springfield is a big step closer to becoming a public recreational natural area, Willamalane Park and Recreation District officials announced at a special property acquisition celebration today (Aug. 27, 2014).
Willamalane has completed the purchase of nearly 700 contiguous acres along the Thurston Hills ridgeline. Funding for buying land from various property owners came in part from a Willamalane bond measure passed in 2012, state and federal grant dollars, and donations of property value from private sellers.
“Willamalane’s vision for the ridgeline property is not only to preserve views, wildlife habitat and sensitive natural areas, but to provide excellent walking, hiking and mountain-biking opportunities,” said Willamalane Superintendent Bob Keefer.
At the celebration, more than 75 invited guests listened to Keefer express his appreciation to Springfield voters and to the agencies and organizations that partnered with Willamalane to make the Thurston Hills project happen.
“This entire project would not have been possible without the generosity of Willamalane voters, a desire by many private property owners see this property become a public park and trail system, and the leadership of the Trust for Public Land in negotiating several agreements that work for all parties,“ Keefer said.
Keefer said the collaborative partnerships formed were critical to the project’s success. Partners in addition to TPL included Weyerhaeuser Real Estate Development Co., Weyerhaeuser NR Co., city of Springfield, Bonneville Power Administration, Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, Department of Environmental Quality, and the U.S. Forest Service.
“This project defines what our community is all about: partnerships, preservation and healthy living,” said U.S. Rep. Peter DeFazio. “I'm proud to represent a place where local leaders and residents have the vision and support for projects such as the Thurston Hills Natural Area. This expansion will benefit our community for generations to come.”
According to Vincent Martorello, Willamalane’s planning and development manager, next steps include natural area assessments and developing a master plan for the site that takes into account the property’s unique habitat while ensuring public access.
“A Community Forest Plan is being developed that will describe guidelines and procedures for planting, maintaining, removing, replacing and preserving trees and other vegetation on the property,” Martorello said. “The plan will involve participation and collaboration of various stakeholders including community, government and nongovernment organizations.”
In fall 2012, voters approved a bond measure that funds a number of projects aimed at expanding trails; preserving parkland around hillsides, rivers and streams; and conserving energy. Willamalane has made significant progress in the months since the passage of the $20 million measure.
The Trust for Public Land works throughout the United States to assist communities with efforts to conserve land as parks and natural areas. This acquisition was the first time Willamalane and the trust worked together on a large conservation project.

Oregon ( (listen) OR-i-gən) is a state in the Pacific Northwest region on the West Coast of the United States. The Columbia River delineates much of Oregon's northern boundary along Washington state, while the Snake River delineates much of its eastern boundary along Idaho. The parallel 42° north delineates the southern boundary with California and Nevada. Oregon is one of only three states of the contiguous United States to have a coastline on the Pacific Ocean.
Oregon was inhabited by many indigenous tribes before Western traders, explorers, and settlers arrived. An autonomous government was formed in the Oregon Country in 1843 before the Oregon Territory was created in 1848. Oregon became the 33rd state on February 14, 1859. Today, at 98,000 square miles (250,000 km2), Oregon is the ninth largest and, with a population of 4 million, 27th most populous U.S. state. The capital, Salem, is the second most populous city in Oregon, with 164,549 residents. Portland, with 632,309 residents, is the most populous and ranks as the 26th most populous city in the United States. The Portland metropolitan area, which also includes the city of Vancouver, Washington, to the north, ranks the 23rd largest metro area in the nation, with a population of 2,389,228.
Oregon is one of the most geographically diverse states in the U.S., marked by volcanoes, abundant bodies of water, dense evergreen and mixed forests, as well as high deserts and semi-arid shrublands. At 11,249 feet (3,429 m), Mount Hood, a stratovolcano, is the state's highest point. Oregon's only national park, Crater Lake National Park, comprises the caldera surrounding Crater Lake, the deepest lake in the United States. The state is also home to the single largest organism in the world, Armillaria ostoyae, a fungus that runs beneath 2,200 acres (8.9 km2) of the Malheur National Forest.Because of its diverse landscapes and waterways, Oregon's economy is largely powered by various forms of agriculture, fishing, and hydroelectric power. Oregon is also the top timber producer of the contiguous United States, and the timber industry dominated the state's economy in the 20th century. Technology is another one of Oregon's major economic forces, beginning in the 1970s with the establishment of the Silicon Forest and the expansion of Tektronix and Intel. Sportswear company Nike, Inc., headquartered in Beaverton, is the state's largest public corporation with an annual revenue of $30.6 billion.Like its northern neighbor Washington, Oregon is one of the most socially progressive states in the country. Same-sex marriage in Oregon was recognized in 2013 before its full legalization in 2015, cannabis is legal for recreational and medicinal use in the state, and assisted suicide is also permitted by law in Oregon.
