USBC Open Championship Coming to Syracuse
USBC Open Championship Script
(Santosuosso VO)
There's a gathering of athletes coming to the OnCenter in Syracuse, and no I'm not talking about the Olympics. It may seem normal on the outside, but as you make your way inside the hall you may notice something a little different.
That's right a 48 lane, state of the art, bowling alley.
This is because for the fifth time Syracuse will host the United States Bowling Congress's Open Championships. The 103 day-long event will bring nearly 40,000 bowlers to the salt city.
Syracuse has hosted the event five times now and tournament director Duane Hagen believed it was time to make a return.
The OnCenter was selected as the venue, and construction workers were tasked with transforming this convention center into a state of the art bowling alley.
Construction began on December 11th, and the bowling alley was completed Friday, February 23rd.
Though the work may be challenging tournament programming director Greg Moore believes what they do is special.
But where do they get all these building materials from? Well, they local.
Public Relations Manager Matt Cannazzaro tells me that the USBC belives they will bring in 75 million dollars to Syracuse because of this event.
But beyond the economic impact, this events main goal is to bring bowlers of all different skill levels together. Not solely to compete, but rather, to share their love of the game.
(CJ Standup)
The USBC Open Championships will be right here at the OnCenter, starting on March 24th and running until July 8th. Bowling will start at 7 am and run until 3 am every day for 103 days. I'm told the event is entirely free to the public. Reporting from the OnCenter in Syracuse, CJ Santosuosso, NCC News.

WonderWorks Syracuse
WonderWorks was once a top secret research laboratory on a remote island in the Bermuda Triangle. As legend has it, the world's greatest scientists -- led by Professor Wonder -- were given the task of creating a man-made tornado and harnessing the POWER of it. During this experiment, something went awry and the power of the tornado was unleashed throughout the laboratory. This created a swirling vortex that was strong enough to rip the laboratory from its foundation. It was carried thousands of miles away and landed upside-down on the 3rd level of Destiny USA in Syracuse, New York. Remarkably, all of the experiments remained intact and functional.
Lobby of WonderWorks Destiny USAWhen you enter the building, everything will be upside-down, so in order to participate in the fun, you must be inverted. Step inside the inversion tunnel and be turned right side up to begin your journey. Once you are properly aligned for your adventure, family fun awaits with more than 100 hands on exhibits. Skaneateles Lake mansions get big tax breaks meant for farms
Two of Syracuse’s wealthiest and most savvy real estate developers use tax breaks meant for rural farmers to secure big property tax breaks at their Skaneateles Lake mansions.
Bob Congel, the developer behind Destiny USA, and Michael J. Falcone, the founder of Pioneer Companies, are taking some of the largest agricultural exemptions in New York state on their private family properties. That’s because they lease acres of land around their mansions to grow corn, hay and grapes.
An analysis by Syracuse.com | The Post-Standard shows how a state law intended to protect rural farms has been exploited by wealthy and savvy homeowners.
