Lassen Volcanic National Park, Day 2 | Cinder Cone | Devil's Kitchen
Day 2 of our Lassen camping trip! We didn't make it to the top of Cinder Cone because Tora was healing from a fractured foot. The lake was beautiful, and the hike to Devil's Kitchen was spectacular. We were glad to leave behind the sulphur smell for hot dogs and s'mores.

Home to all four types of volcanoes, Lassen Volcanic National Park is positively alive with bubbles, steams, and roars. We show you how to kayak on Manzanita Lake, see mudpots at Sulphur Works, catch a steam at Devil’s Kitchen, climb Cinder Cone, and stay at Drakesbad Guest Ranch. Lassen Volcanic Park / Warner Valley / Devils Kitchen / October 2016
During our US vacation in October 2016 we travelled by car from Seattle to San Francisco, spending 3 full days in Lassen Volcanic National Park. We had stayed at the Antlers Motel in Chester and for our third day the owner suggested that we take it easy and go to Warner Valley / Devils Kitchen. Again we had perfect weather - in many ways this was more interesting than Bumpass Hell & we had the place to ourselves.

Devil's Kitchen - Mt. Lassen National Park
Hiking in the Devil's Kitchen area.
Lassen Volcanic National Park 4k
Finding a steaming volcano, deep snow, raging waterfalls, foraging bears, brilliant wildflowers, and bubbling mudpots and steaming rocks in a single location isn't as hard as it sounds thanks to Lassen Volcanic National Park. The park, located in Northern California, has great camping sites and hiking trails for every fitness level. On this trip, a deeper than average snowpack kept us from hiking up Lassen Peak -- a trek that ends with a stunning view and a walk among sharp lava sculptures inside the volcano's cone that were created when Mt. Lassen last erupted in the 1910s. (Lassen is, in fact, the southernmost volcano in the Cascade Range.) Don't be fooled by the peak's apparent quiet. Boiling mudpots, bubbling pools and steaming vents found throughout the park make it clear that Lassen still has the potential to erupt. Many thanks to the National Park Service for making Lassen Volcanic National Park a great vacation destination. This video was created by Larry Richardson using a Sony AX53 camcorder for RichardsonArtPhotographyStore.com.
