Fantastic sunset and ocean view in Devil's Slide Trail && Pacifica, California, USA
During one weekend this December, we visited Pacifica, California, a town which is right on the coast of the Pacific Ocean, just south of San Francisco.
First we went to the Pacifica State Beach and watched some surfers.
Then we enjoyed a very relaxed afternoon hike at Devil's Slide Trail, which was previously a small section of the famous Highway 1 (prior to 2013). The birds were singing while flying and walked around people without hesitation. A sea plane was flying just above the surface of the sea, gliding like a pelican. The wavy clouds above were surreal, the sunset dramatic, and the fog in the distance just above the ocean was very dreaming and beautiful.
At last we visited downtown Pacifica, when the sunset over the sea was mostly covered by extremely thick blankets of clouds, only releasing a narrow gap of brilliant red light while still reaching the whole sky. What incredible craft of nature art!

I love the mountains and prefer to backpack in them. But after years of drought here in SoCal the thought of schlogging 10 pounds of water up a mountain was not very appealing. So that’s why my previous videos have been in Joshua Tree National Park, where the terrain is level and 10 pounds of water is tolerable.
However, the past winter has dumped record levels of snow on the mountains and as it melts, there is going to be plenty of water!
So, it’s a Friday afternoon and here I am at the Humber Park Trail Head in the San Jacinto Wilderness. I’m climbing Devil’s Slide Trail up to Saddle Junction. I’m just going to meander around the area for a couple days and get my mountain legs back.

Devils Slide Trail and Pedro Point Headlands near San Francisco
The hiking trails are in Pacifica area near San Francisco. A stretch of CA Highway 1 was converted into hiking trail after a pair of tunnels were built to route around the landslide prone area called Devil's Slide. The old stretch of Hwy 1 is now known as the Devil's Slide Coastal Trail. The north end of the trail connects with several trails in the Pedro Point Headlands. TAKE A HIKE: Devil's Slide Trail
Just a few miles south of San Francisco, perched atop cliffs on the outskirts of the beach town of Pacifica, is Devil's Slide Trail. This section of the scenic Pacific Coast Highway closed down when tunnels were bored into the mountains in 2013. Today pedestrians, bicyclists and dogs can enjoy the sweeping views along this stunning 1.3 mile trailhead.

The Devil's Slide Ride is one of the 10 best centuries in Northern California. Starting in the seaside town of Pacifica, the ride heads south on Cabrillo Highway (CA-1) up the first climb with a CHP escort until reaching Devil's Slide Trail. There are three routes, the 40-mile ride, metric century, and the Century From Hell, which is 101 miles and 9,250 feet of elevation gain. The century is as scenic as it is challenging, taking riders along the coast, through the mountains and rolling hills of San Mateo County, returning to Pacifica after a big loop around the peninsula. The fully-supported ride has six rest stops and benefits PARCA - Partners & Advocates for Remarkable Children & Adults. Many people have died attempting this slide, which makes this is one of the most dangerous natural water slides in California, but we wanted to see if it was possible to do it safely.

New Devil's Slide Tunnel Pacifica CA-2013
These are the new tunnels through San Pedro Mountain near Pacifica, CA on Hwy 1 in NorCal which just opened yesterday. The old portion of Hwy 1 with Devil's Slide will become a bike/hiking trail maintained by San Mateo County. These are the 2nd & 3rd longest tunnels in California.
The new tunnels are named after Congressman Tom Lantos.
Tahquitz Peak - Hike to the Summit - Devil's Slide and Pacific Crest Trail
Tahquitz Peak (or simply Tahquitz) is a granite, 8,846-foot-tall (2,696 m) rock formation located on the high western slope of the San Jacinto mountain range in Riverside County, Southern California, United States, above the mountain town of Idyllwild. Tahquitz has a steep approach hike (approximately 800-foot elevation gain in a half mile), leading to a roughly 1000-foot face. Tahquitz, which can refer to both the rock outcrop and the outcrop's parent peak, is a popular hiking destination to the fire lookout station and the rock climbing area.
This hike was made in September 2016, along the route up the Devil's Slide trail to Saddle Junction and along the Pacific Crest Trail.
