Travel from Battambang to Phnom Penh | Big Storm in Pursat Province
We're leaving Battambang Town heading back all the sweet memories to Phnom Penh city in Cambodia. It's a long road trip on National Road No.5 crossing Pursat & Kampong Chhnang Province before we reach Phnom Penh City. There's a big storm along the way at Krakor district in Pursat Province which we never faced it before. We arrived our friend's home at Kampong Chhnang Province, Mr. Sovann at around 7pm. We're all hungry and need something to fill up our stomach before we continued to home in Phnom Penh city. We eat street food, fry noodle, fry meatball, fried fish meat and veggie, rice with grilled chicken and cheers while it's raining hard out there in Kampong Chhnang Province. We're all full and continued our trip back to Phnom Penh city. We arrived home in Phnom Penh city at around 9pm safe and sound.

Battambang Bat Cave - Cambodia
Every evening at sundown, bats living in the Phnom Sampov caves leave their home. We followed them on our motorbike through small villages and farm land to find an open field and watched the floating river of bats above our heads.
Bamboo Train in Battambang, Cambodia (Norry Ride / Nori Rail) ណូរី (Cambodia's Bamboo Train)
On the final day of the Khmer New Year we woke up early to take a tuk-tuk tour starting with a ride on the bamboo train (known as a norry or nori ណូរី) just outside of Battambang, Cambodia. Run by a six horse power engine, these makeshift improvised rail vehicles are made out of bamboo where a small mat is placed for sitting down. Being so low to the ground and running up to speeds of 50 kilometers an hour, you really feel as though you're humming along the old rickety tracks. During our journey we noticed many rural homes, animals (such as dogs, cats, cows and chickens) and Khmer locals.

The scenic journey showcased numerous kinds of landscapes including farmland and lush green jungle. Along the way we made a stop at a small village where our bamboo train was turned around so that we could make the journey back on the same track. It's a good idea to go early before there are too many trains clogging the track. The cost is $5 per person and you can insist to have your own 'bamboo train' as opposed to sharing with others. It's well worth the ride!
A norry or nori (Khmer: ណូរី , from the French word for lorry) is an improvised rail vehicle from Cambodia. Lonely Planet describes it as Cambodia's bamboo train. [1] The trains run at speeds of up to 50 km/h (31 mph) on the 1 m gauge tracks around Battambang and Poipet. A scheduled service run by the Government also operates but is slower and less reliable due to frequent derailments and breakdowns. The rest of the network, originally built by French colonial settlers, is largely abandoned since the Khmer Rouge regime effectively shut it down. In 2006 the BBC reported that there was only one scheduled service a week and it ran at not much more than walking pace.[2]
The bamboo train is a popular tourist attraction in Battambang
Norries have low fares, are frequent and relatively fast, so are popular despite their rudimentary design, lack of brakes, the state of the rails (often broken or warped) and lack of any formal operating regime.[2] Simple construction and light weight mean that the norry may be simply removed from the track -- if two meet on the line, the one with the lighter load is unloaded, lifted and carried round the other, and at the end of the line the vehicle is lifted and turned.[3]
Bamboo train (Norry) station near Battambang
There is some precedent for the Norry's popularity. In the 1980s and 1990s due to the civil war in Cambodia trains were led by an armed and armoured carriage; the first carriages of the train were flatbeds used as mine sweepers and travel on these was free for the first carriage and half-price for the second. These options were popular despite the obvious risks.[1]
Norry construction is a cottage industry conducted in trackside villages. It takes around four days to construct one of the vehicles, which have a steel frame overlaid with bamboo slats resting on wheels taken from abandoned tanks.[3]
Originally propelled by hand using punt poles, power is now provided by small motorcycle or tractor engines with belt drive direct to the rear axle, delivering top speeds of 40 km/h or more. Fuel is bought from villages along the route, supplied in glass jars and the flat-bedded vehicles will carry any load that will fit, including people, livestock, motorcycles and rice.[4]
In February 2008 a project was announced to rebuild the railway lines from Sihanoukville to Phnom Penh, Phnom Penh to Poipet and on to Sisophon and the Thai border (a stretch completely destroyed by the Khmer Rouge regime). This was due to be completed at the end of 2009.[5] As of May 2011 this project has only completed from Phnom Penh to Sihanoukville.[6]
As of May 2011 the Bamboo train appears to be the only train operating around the Battambang area, which can be observed by the completely overgrown tracks passing though the city. On the outskirts a tourist service operates for $5 per person to a village that has a brick factory. This is overseen by the local Tourist Police:

On November 2013, we went for the third time in Asia, this time to immerse ourselves in the nature and the slow pace of Laos. A journey of a month that has brought us almost back in time, between relaxed people who live to the rhythm of the sun, small villages built on winding roads, dust, coffee powder, waterfalls and unspoilt nature. Discovering a simple life, made of smiles, peace and happiness between the banks of the Mekong. Film by Antonio Correnti
While backpackers visit a small village in remote northern Laos in search of a traditional experience, the inhabitants of the village discover the attractions of the West. Two worlds meet at the crossroads of their respective desire; the one longing for authenticity, the other for modernity. In this micro-cosmos, their encounter leaves no one unchanged and tells the story of friendship and how we relate to others in a globalized and rapidly changing world. Film by Cinema Delicatessen

Travel around the Phnom Penh city of Cambodia in the afternoon
Travel around the Phnom Penh city of Cambodia in the afternoon from somewhere near Preah Sisowath high school along Norodom Blvd., to Independence monument and turn to Koh Pich exhibition and wedding hall then continue to the river side to sea people playing shuttlecock and selling along the road and some give corn seeds to pigeons and some visit the riverside where there are many national flags and tourist boats cruising in the mekong river. This look so amazing and happy. Let's enjoy the video all together.

Cambodia - How to travel around? Angkor Wat, Phnom penh to Koh Rong.
Cambodia
Cambodia is an amazing country. But of course we heard different stories: some travelers told us Cambodians are the friendliest people ever! We also heard they are impolite and annoying. So like always – the best way is to find it out yourself: We loved the country and the people, they were really kind.
General Information
To enter Cambodia you need to pay for the visa. This is not a big deal – visa on arrival costs about 30 USD (you have to pay in US-Dollars). When you arrive at the airport of Siem Reap you will even find an ATM next to the immigration desk (fee is 5 USD). And yes, US-Dollar is the main currency in Cambodia which is really strange, but you get used to it. They also use the currency called Riel, but most of the time they only use it as change. 1 USD corresponds to 4.000 Riel (So 1.000 Riel = 25 Cents).
What are the highlights of Cambodia?
In general Cambodia is an easy country to travel around and well connected. We haven’t seen much of the east of the country, so we cannot give you any advice about that. All places we visited we travelled by bus – we always went for the cheapest deals and it was always a save way to travel (regarding Southeast Asian standards, but we have experienced worse). Below you can find our route and highlights of Cambodia.
Siem Reap
If there is any must-see in Cambodia it’s Siem Reap and the temple of Ankor Wat. You need at least one or two days to visit this stunning temple complex. The city itself is quite touristy though, so to experience the real Cambodian lifestyle you either need to get out of the city or visit some other less frequented places of Cambodia. It is definitely worth it to hire some bikes or a scooter and get out of the city center for a while.
Battambang
That’s why we visited Battambang or Battambong – we wanted to see a ‘normal’ Cambodian city. Battambang is actually not that small, as it is the second biggest city of Cambodia. Of course there are also some tourist attractions you could visit (and especially Tuk Tuk drivers beg you to visit them):
-the bamboo train
-the killing cave
-the bad cave
-the circus
Koh Rong Samloem
Koh Rong is famous! People tell you the sand is white and the parties are wild. Jungle parties, drugs, loud music, so it is actually a little bit confusing, when you start your research about the Koh Rong islands. We read many reviews, talked to people and heard different stories. Some people say it is heaven on earth, on the other hand we heard the parties can be annoying and the beach is dirty. So at the end we didn’t go to Koh Rong, but to Koh Rong Samloem – the smaller island. Compared to the big one, it is relaxed, calm and clean – but no parties (for everyone who is into parties)! Here you can find your inner peace and even the sea is very calm.
Kampot
Kampot is another great city to experience the relaxed Cambodian lifestyle. You will meet many expats over here as well. One of the highlights is to visit the salt and pepper field. You can book a tuk tuk tour or just hire a bike and go there. On the way you will drive through smaller, poorer villages, but the people are so happy to see you.
Phnom Penh
The capital of Cambodia is huge – this is probably also the reason why many people told us they don’t like Phnom Penh. “It’s dirty and dangerous”. But that’s not true! If you visit the right spots and if you stay at right places, the city is actually quite nice. The Indepence Monument looks great as well as the Royal Palace. Every now and then, when you walk through Phnom Penh you see some nice squares, statues or buildings. It is also the place where you can learn about the sad history of Cambodia – the Khmer Rouge. The Khmer Rouge killed more than a third of the population of Cambodia – also many women and children. It is very hard to understand how this could happen. When you do a Tuk Tuk tour you can visit the Toul sleng Museum and killing fields. Start with the museum on day one. Don’t do both on one day as it is very hard to digest. Our Advice: Read the book ‘First they killed my father’ by Loung Ung.

CHOB KOKI BORDER The Cambodia Thailand Border Crossing
My first time to visit this border at Oddar Meanchey Province. It's called Choo Koki Border that links Oddar Meanchey Province of Cambodia and Boriram Province of Thailand. The ticket at Cambodia Side for adult is just 1000riel each and free for children below 10 years old. Ticket at Thailand Side is 10baht for adult and free for children below 10 years old too. We take a TukTuk that pays 10baht each and free for small kid to the border market to check out something. I bought a pair of black all star shoes and a hat for my son Raby. He loves it a lot. We had lunch at this Thai market. I had seafood noodle soup, my wife and children had fried rice. After lunch we get back crossing the border and no-pay again. We visit a supermarket to buy some snack and heading back to Cambodia land. It's a great trip with Khmer Tourist Family to Choo Koki, the Cambodia-Thai border crossing.

The Beauty of A Small Village in Kampot Province
This video started with a drone shot of Protak Krola Lake & Dam in Kampot Province. Some called this Secret Lake. Drone also showed the beautiful of Koun Sat village and green rice fields. People built homes in the middle of rice fields. They grow coconut trees, mango trees, jujube tree, and raise domestic animals like cows, chicken, dogs. I love the lady and her daughter walk her cow eating grass at the green paddy field. People cooked organic foods, fishes, vegetables from around their homes. I left the village to Kampot town for dinner and bought some durians for my wife and kids and traveled back to Phnom Penh city. I wish to visit this beautiful village again.

$1 moto taxi rides.
I went everywhere via tuk tuk or moto taxi and never paid more than $1 for a trip. Sometimes the tuk tuks on the riverfront will insist on $2 for a short journey.
Phnom Penh is not a place to wander around alone late at night, even around the tourist areas. Cambodia is a much poorer country than Thailand, and reports of incidents against tourists/expats often are suppressed in the news.
Street 136
Some ladies in the Phnom Penh hostess bars are only there for lady drinks, particularly the prettier ladies under 25 years old. It's best to know the score before you start buying them loads of drinks. Other times some girls will only go with Asian customers (eg. Korean, Japanese).
I heard a story about a Phnom Penh hostess bar where a Western guy bought a nice hostess 5 lady drinks, but in the end she wouldn't go to his hotel as she was only a drinks girl. He was really pissed off and was telling everyone about it...

Pepper Farm, Crab Market in KAMPOT and KEP, CAMBODIA | Cambodia Vlog Series
07092018 - 07142018
One country, four provinces, six days.
My sisters and I travelled to Cambodia for six days. Our first stop was in Siem Reap. Next we went to Kampot and Kep. Third day was more like a day on the road. Arrived in Kampot at night. I do not recommend taking the Sorya bus as it takes almost 5 hours. Ekareach van takes 3 hours only (this is what we took on the way back to PNH).
Never forget to visit Kampot and Kep whenever you are in Cambodia but I dont recommend going on their rainy season coz it sure will rain all day. If you want something quiet, not crowded, lazy, then this is the place for you. Kampot is a small town where you can just walk or bike around. Kep is a 30-min ride from Kampot. Tourist tend to skip this province, DONT!
We went to their Secret Lake, Kampot Pepper Farm and Kep Crab Market. We were supposed to go to a cave but the rain didnt stop and wasnt able to tour more of Kep coz of the harsh wind and rain (sea side).
There are still many things you could do or places you could go in Kampot and Kep. Make sure to stay for a few days. One to two days is not enough.
The list below is a breakdown of our expenses in Kampot and Kep:
Cambodia Post VIP Van (REP to PNH) - $8 per person
Sorya Bus (PNH to Kampot) - $12 per person
Tuktuk (Kampot and Kep tour) - $20
Tuktuk - $2
Breakfast in Cafe Espresso - $16
Breakfast - $10
Lunch in Crab Market - $8 (1kilo of crabs), $0.50 (cooking of crabs), $1 (4 rice)
Dinner in Happy Smile Pizza - $9.5
DInner - $13

Dont forget to give some love. ♡

What do we want?
Your support and aid in making it possible to provide the Head Ability School in Kandal Province, Cambodia with a TukTuk School Bus. We will transport young children who are not able to attend due to their busy parents and the raining season.
Why?
Cambodia has two seasons, rainy season and dry season. Rainy season occurs 4 to 6 months of the year. The problem during this time is the children's ability to get to school. 70% of the Cambodian population are hard working farmers and often have no time to provide transport to and from school for their children. This results in children not attending school. Rainy season provides an extra obstacle because the roads are often flooded and become nearly impossible to ride on a bicycle. A tuktuk would allow young children to have safe transportation, especially at night. Further, the tuktuk will be used during dry season as a traveling shop. Children will build skills and gain knowledge of what it takes to be a seller. These skills are very important in Cambodia because it creates a future and an income.

One awesome day exploring Cambodia. November 2016. We drove from Siem Siem Province to Koh Kong Province. It was an unforgettable journey.
It took 6 days and 5 nights return trip. We started from Siem Reap traveled by boat to Kampong Spuer province and from there we drove. We camped on the ways.
