Walking the Dismal Swamp Canal Trail in Chesapeake, Virginia
Bender and I actually went to the Dismal Swamp Canal for a straight power walk (yes, we're that out of shape!). It was a really lovely, fast paced walk. We did stop for a Letterbox and a Geocache, but the smooth trail and quiet atmosphere was wonderful.
Thanks for watching!

Bicycle ride on the Dismal Swamp Trail
Nice ride on a road converted to a multi use trail in southern Chesapeake, VA. It follows the Dismal Swamp Canal, part of the Intercostal Waterway. End to end I think it's about 9 miles( soon to be expanded), nice for all family members as there is virtually no traffic except at those points where there is access to boat ramps or private residences.
Paddle for the Border NC to VA
Kayak and canoe enthusiast paddling the Great Dismal Swamp Canal from mile post 28 in NC to mile post 20.5 in VA.
The launch point was at the North Carolina Dismal Swamp State Park Canal Bridge at mile post 28, adjacent to the North Carolina DOT Welcome Center on US 17, north of South Mills. The destination was the Great Dismal Swamp Boat Ramp on the Dismal Swamp Canal Trail at Ballahck Road in Chesapeake, Virginia, thus the name of the event, Paddle for the Border. The total distance was 7 and ½ miles.

TRAILS THROUGH THE GREAT DISMAL SWAMP IN CHESAPEAKE VIRGINIA 1003301
Buckroe to Dismal Swamp
In this episode of Walk in the Park TV (#30, Nov. 28, 2012), we return to southeast Virginia, site of the earliest English-speaking settlements in America. I show you Buckroe Beach in the City of Hampton on the Chesapeake Bay, the first beach I knew as a little kid. What was the unusual hazard discovered on this beach after its sand was replenished in the 1990s? After a visit to Newport News, we go to Virginia Beach, Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge, and False Cape State Park on the Atlantic Ocean, just two miles north of North Carolina's Outer Banks. And finally, we follow a boardwalk in Dismal Swamp State Park just over the border into North Carolina, on the edge of one of the largest remaining lowland wetlands in the East.
