Chocolate & Scottish Whisky Together?? | Dewars Aberfeldy Distillery Tour | Perth, Scotland [Ad]
Scottish whisky is world renowned but with chocolate? Today we head to Dewars Aberfeldy Distillery for a tour to see why Scotland is known for it's whisky and pair with chocolate! ⬇ More Below ⬇
Welcome back to Scotland! Today we wanted to learn more about why Scottish whisky is so well known, so we head to Dewars Aberfeldy for a distillery tour and tasting with chocolate pairings and what a day!
Whisky from Scotland is world renowned and we can understand why now. The distillery tour was eye opening to see how meticulous the process is and the love that goes into every bottle. We're honestly not big spirit drinkers but Dewars definitely positioned their distillery tour and whisky tasting to us in a way that was much more approachable - with chocolate! It's crazy how much the chocolate changes the profile of the whisky and now we're both a lot more open to whisky.
Having all the notes listed in front of us helped with the tasting as well, to an untrained drinker (us both haha) we really feel like our eyes are open to whisky now and will be looking for the Scottish magic around the world.

Drinking Scotch Whisky in Edinburgh, Scotland
For a fun afternoon in Edinburgh we joined our friend Rob of Stop Having a Boring Life ( to visit the Scotch Whisky Experience. Inside we met a guide who explained to us the history of whisky and brought us to the blenders room where we had the opportunity to create our own whisky blend. First we learned about the different aromas you can smell from whiskey. We both only got 2 out of 10 correct! Next, was on to the blending where Audrey created her Bergner Blend and I came up with Sam I Am Shazzam. We then moved on to the biggest Scotch Whisky collection in the world with over three thousand bottles on display! It is definitely an experience we'd highly recommend.

Drinking Scotch Whisky in Edinburgh, Scotland Travel Food Video Transcript:
So I'm really excited right now. It is a little bit chilly here in Edinburgh. It is the fall and I forgot to wear my jacket so another way for me to warm up is to drink some whisky. So we're going to go do a cool whiskey tour and I can't wait for it to go down my belly and warm me up out here. Great excuse to drink whisky Sam. Let's go.
So we have arrived at the Scotch Whisky Experience. Yes, and we are in the Blender's Room and if you look at this table it is all set to do some blending. Yes, and sampling.
So before we begin we're going to do a sensory perception test. And they're going to pass around ten different aromas found in whiskey and we have to try and identify those. And this is number nine. Let's see how well we do.
So none of these things I'm about to mention to you are added to whisky. But through the process of producing the alcohol you get lots and lots of different aromas and characteristics that just come naturally from those three basic ingredients.
What do you think that is?
They're all mystery aromas.
It kind of smells like butterscotch smell. That is very sweet. It has a nice sweet aroma.
So I came up with medicine, marzipan, sugarcane, candy, books in an attic, butter, peaches, vinegar, vick's vapor rub and poison. Those are my ten.
So my score was 2 out of 10. How did you do?
Okay, so now it is time for the fun part. What are we doing? Now here comes the science. We get to make our own personal blend. Name of my blend. Sam 'I' Am Shazzam. The blender. Sir Samuel George of Alexander. The date bottled September 23, 2016 and I'm going with 60% grain and 15% speyside because that is going to give it a smokey, strong and sophisticated taste much like its creator.
So we're going to get the expert to decide who created the best blend. With a blind test. Yes.
This one is a little bit. I think it is little bit confused.
Okay. This is quite fresh, quite fruity. Yeah, I'm liking this one. I think this is the leader at the moment.
Okay, it is quite caramel in that.
I think, I think, I think.
Yep, this is it. Number two for the win?
And whose was that? Which one is the worst?
The Bergner Blend! Oh!
But to be fair you helped me create mine. You did all of the work. Hahaha.
And which one is the worst?
The one that definitely is still fighting a little bit and the flavors need to come together I think is number one. Yeah, this one.
Dun, dun dun.
Hahahaha.
Oh well, Roberto.
You can't win them all.
So we've sampled whisky, we've created our own blend and now it is time to check out the world's biggest stash and believe me it is a huge stash.
So this is the world's biggest collection of Scotch Whisky. And it just keeps going and going and going. So they have three thousand, three hundred and eighty four bottles in here. It is a maze of Scotch Whiskey.
So that was a really fun experience. We drank whiskey, we created our own blends. We visited the biggest Scotch whisky collection. What did you think? Yeah, I mean what more could you do. What did you think? I think it was incredible and a really nice way to pass an afternoon.

SCOTCH WHISKY EXPERIENCE
We do the Scotch Whisky Experience in Edinburgh, Scotland. It's located right on the Royal Mile near Edinburgh Castle in Old Town. The Scotch Whisky Experience is good times and you learn all about whiskey as well as get a chance to blend your own scotch whisky if that's something that interests you. After we saw the world's largest whisky experience and obviously left feeling pretty good.
The Scotch Whisky experience is something I'd recommend to people spending some time in Edinburgh but go with a fun group, it will make the tour that much better.

Meet Steel Bonnets | A cross-border blend of exceptional English and Scotch malt whisky
Past hostilities forgotten, this is a union of all that is good.
Find out more;
Creamy vanilla and comforting woodsmoke are interwoven to create a whisky born of the unique rugged character and heritage of the of the Scottish & English borderlands.
The whisky has creamy, slightly nutty & full bodied flavour.
Notes of vanilla, ginger, nutmeg, and hints dried fruit. All held together with a sweet & comforting layer of woodsmoke.
We have created Steel Bonnets blended malt whisky to honour the memory of those people who lived in the Border Marches of England and Scotland during the 13th – 17th centuries.
This Frontier territory, so distant from Crown control of both nations proved difficult to govern. In fact, the people of the Border Marches did not see themselves as either English or Scottish and therefore developed a certain independence of spirit that set them against the world.
In early English, to ‘reive’ is to rob, and from this were born ‘The Border Reivers’, nicknames the ‘Steel Bonnets’ after the ‘burgonet’ or ‘morion’ helments they wore for protection.
Robber and blackmail became everyday professions. Raiding, arson, kidnapping, murder and extortion were just an accepted part of life. These were not acts committed merely for personal gain but family survival. Clans both sides of the border claimed allegiance to Kin not Kingdom. Inter-marriage further strengthened family bonds, creating a unique blend of people that live, loved and died for each other.
Today the borderlands are thankfully a more law-abiding place, yet still retain a strong sense of community and distinct character born of times gone by.
Steel Bonnets is a blend of kindred spirits – malt whiskies from both England and Scotland. At its heart is single malt whisky from The Lakes Distillery, created with love and great care in the Lake District National Park. So, raise a glass to family and friends, may they be of the past, present or future.
You can purchase Steel Bonnets below:
You can even visit us at our distillery and enjoy a tour and tastings:
