The foot of the Diyaluma Falls is located 1-hour away from Ella. This 220-meter high waterfall is the 2nd highest waterfall of Sri Lanka, has different levels and natural pools on the top. Water coming down with great force on the rocks is amazing to experience on the foot but exploring the top is new and you need to be a fit to reach this. You can visit this in 3 hours or need a full day depending if you want to visit the top.

A path to the upper part of the falls leaves from close to KM 207.5 on the A4 Hwy. It's a steep 45-minute hike to the top.

දියලුම ඇල්ල යනු ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ වූ දියඇලි අතර, උස අනූව තුන්වන ස්ථානය (මීටර 171) ලබා ගන්නා දිය ඇල්ල වේ. එය උස අනූව එය ලෝකයේ 361ක් වන ස්ථානයේ පසුවෙයි. බෙරගල- වැල්ලවාය මාර්ගයේ බෙරගල හන්දියේ සිට කි.මී. 24ක් ගමන් කළ විට හො වැල්ලවාය සිට 12km හපුතලේ(කොස්ලන්ද ) දෙසට ගමන් කරන කල 124 වෙනි සැතපුම් කණුව අසල මාර්ගයට ඉතාමත් ආසන්නව දියලුම ඇල්ල හමුවේ. දියලුම දියඇල්ල කිරිඳි ඔයේ ශාඛාවක් වන පූනාගල ඔයෙන් පෝෂණය ලබයි. මෙහි දිය දහර කුඩා ඔය ඔස්සේ කිරිදි ගගට ගලා යයි. වසර පුරාම දර්ශනීය ලෙස දිස්වෙන මෙම දියඇල්ල දේශීය සංචාරකයන්ගේ පමණක් නොව විදේශීය සංචාරකයන්ගේද නොමඳ ජනාදරයට පත්වූවකි. ඇතමුන් තරමක් දුශ්කර මාර්ගයක් ඔස්සේ දියලුම දියඇල්ල උඩට ගමන් කරනු ලබයි.

Diyaluma Falls is 220 m (720 ft) high and the third highest waterfall in Sri Lanka and 361st highest waterfall in the world. It is situated 6 km (3.7 mi) away from Koslanda in Badulla District on Colombo-Badulla highway. The Falls are formed by Punagala Oya, a tributary of Kuda Oya which in turn, is a tributary of Kirindi Oya.
In Sinhalese, Diyaluma or Diya Haluma means rapid flow of water or may be translated as liquid light. According to Sri Lankan historian, Dr. R. L. Brohier, Diyaluma is the setting of the folklore about a tragedy involving a young chieftain who had been banished to the highlands and the attempt by his betrothed to join. As all the passes were guarded the young man let down a rope of twisted creepers over the escarpment, as she was hauled up she was dashed against the rocks and died. The Gods, moved to pity by the harrowing spectacle, caused a stream of water to gush from the mountain and veil all evidence of the tragedy in a watery light, hence the term Diyaluma.
