Breaching Gray Whales Show Off For Orange County Whale Watchers
Migrating Gray Whales put on an incredible show for Orange County Whale Watchers aboard Capt. Dave's Dolphin & Whale Watching Safari.
An unusual group of six gray whales (three separate mom and calf pairs) were making their journey back up the coast of Southern California, from the lagoons in Baja to their feeding grounds in the waters off Alaska, when they decided to have a little fun. Just outside of the kelp beds off Orange County, California, the whales began breaching and spy-hopping!
Gray whales make one of the longest migrations of any mammal and are seen every winter off of Dana Point. Each year the gray whales travel 10,000 to 12,000 miles from the Chukchi and Bering Seas to the lagoons of Baja, California, where they mate and have their calves before returning back north. Gray whales are sometimes seen less than a mile from the beach.

Man Rescued From Alaskan Waters After Floating in a 'Fish Bin'
AN Alaskan fisherman survived a day adrift at sea - huddled in a bobbing fish bin after his boat was swamped by waves.
The man spent a night adrift in a 1 metre by 1 metre plastic fish bin after his boat was hit by big waves and overturned off the coast of Alaska.
A Coast Guard helicopter hoisted Ryan Harris, 19, of Sitka, from his plastic lifeboat on Saturday, more than 24 hours after the boat sank, the Daily Sitka Sentinel reported.
Harris told the newspaper he gave himself pep talks and sang Rudolf, the Red-Nosed Reindeer and Row, Row, Row Your Boat to keep his spirits up.
His fellow crewmember managed to get into a survival suit and washed ashore on a beach after his own night afloat. Two hours before Harris' rescue, crewmate Stonie Mac Huffman was rescued from a beach.
It's truly a miracle they survived, said Sitka Mountain Rescue Director Don Kluting, who helped in the search.
I never thought I was going to die, but I was worried about Mac, Harris told the newspaper earlier this week. I'm glad to be here.
The two managed to grab some empty fish totes that had washed loose. Huffman stabilized one while Harris climbed inside. The men weren't able to get Huffman into a bin but he took a plastic bin lid for flotation. Eight-foot waves soon separated the men.
Humpback Whale Feeding Frenzy - Monterey Bay, CA
Anchovy runs close to shore in late summer/fall of 2013 caused feeding frenzies of humpback whales, California sea lions, and a variety of sea birds in Monterey Bay.
Whale Watching in Downtown Tacoma
Taken on Tuesday, April 12th at Foss Harbor Marina in Downtown Tacoma, this young gray whale (we believe) breached right in between two docks at the marina! While it's not unusual to see this type of activity in the Puget Sound or even Commencement Bay, it almost never happens this closely to so many people and boats.
Sadly, it is possible that the whale is sick or lost, so biologists and animal/environmental groups will be watching its activity closely to assist, if possible.

Icy Strait point Alaska whale watching from Norwegian sun cruise ship 1 of 13
Icy Strait point whale watching from Norwegian sun cruise ship - On my first port of the south bound 7 days Alaska cruise from Seward Alaska to Vancouver BC.
I returned to my cruise after visiting the small town of Icy Strait Point, Alaska in the afternoon and happened to see tons of bait fish swimming around our Norwegian Sun cruise ship. I saved $200 from going out on a whale excursion. Instead, I was lucky enough to watch whale feeding and puffing air on my cruise ship FREE.
I was filming from the bow (front) of the cruise ship. whales were feeding in the bay from 2pm to 5pm

This is the incredible moment a humpback whale feeds just feet away from docked boats showing off his giant mouth.
Fisherman Cy Williams watched as the behemoth majestically beached the surface of the water at Knudson Cove Marina, Alaska, USA.
As Cy tried to follow the whale’s path under the stationary vessels – including his own – on Monday May 2, he spotted bubbles heading toward the surface.
Suddenly the gaping jaws of the mammoth mammal shot into the air, taking a massive gulp on the way back.
