Dominica is a mountainous Caribbean island nation with natural hot springs and tropical rain forests. Morne Trois Pitons National Park is home to the volcanic-ally heated, steam-covered Boiling Lake. The park also encompasses sulfur vents, the 65 m-tall Trafalgar Falls and narrow Titou Gorge. To the west is Dominica’s capital, Roseau, with colorful timber houses and botanic gardens.
We visited Dominica in November 2018. Although it rained everyday (it was the rainy season), that didn’t stop us from exploring this lovely green island. We hiked to view several waterfalls including Jacko Falls, Trafalgar falls and Emerald Pool. We also visited the capital of Roseau, shopped at a local market and visited The Chocolate Factory at Pointe Baptiste Estate.
In addition, we visited the Kalinago Territory. The Kalinago are the indigenous people of Dominica, and the Caribbean, formerly known as the Caribs. The Kalinago, have lived on this land for thousands of years. Currently, approximately 3,000 Kalinagos live in this 3,700-acre territory, on the north-eastern coast of Dominica. We toured the land and model village, with amazing views of the island, and learned about the history and traditions of the Kalinago.

Down the coast is Champagne Reef, a snorkeling destination where gas bubbles emerge from the shallow sea floor. Nearby is Soufriere village, in a volcanic crater bay with hot springs on its pebbly beach and coral-covered underwater cliffs offshore. Inland is Wotten Waven, a mountain village with thermal baths among tree ferns. Cabrits National Park, in the north, is home to Fort Shirley, once manned by 18th-century British colonialists. In our excursion in Roseau, Dominica, we noticed this plant called Mimosa Pudica that would fold its leaves (being shy) after being touched.

Driving to the Botanical Gardens in Dominica (Bumpiing Tours - December 27, 2011)
DOMINICA = called the NATURE ISLAND
Our private tour (with Bumpiing Tours) started in Dominica's capital, ROSEAU and our tour guide Gary drove us (in an AC van) to the Emerald Pool, Trafalgar Falls and the Wotten Waven Sulphur Springs.
Driving back to Roseau, we passed though the Dominica Botanical Gardens heading to our last stop: the Champagne Reef.
- Seen a Banyan tree, the only Sausage Tree in Dominica (from Africa), rare parrots and the famous African Baobab tree that crushed over a school bus being toppled by Hurricane David in 1979.
