Scuba Diving Gulf Shores with Down Under Dive Shop
My first boat dive! Scuba diving Gulf Shores with Down Under Dive Shop. My first dive didn't go as planned, but the second was AMAZING. One of these days I'll figure out how to make my GoPro actually film instead of taking 4,000 stills.

Diving the Alabama Gulf Coast
Discover a whole new world under the surface of the Gulf of Mexico with Gulf Shores and Orange Beach diving vacation.
Alabama’s first purpose-sunk ship wreck - The LuLu, a sunken freighter - is 17 nautical miles south of Perdido Pass and Orange Beach (+29° 59' 50 / -87° 33' 00) and joins the area off the Alabama coast that is the site of the largest artificial reef program in the United States. This newest reef wreck is at a perfect depth for beginner diver certification, with 50-foot depth clearance at the top of the wreck. It’s also attractive for the experienced recreational diver at the bottom level depth of 115 feet. Before The LuLu, divers had to travel farther east and farther out to sea, but this great new dive spot is easier to reach and safer to dive.

Orange Beach Snorkel Reefs
Here is a little report from August 23, 2018, in Orange Beach Alabama on the new deployment of snorkel reefs. These new deployments are part of the state of Alabama‘s reef program and include 166 reef modules being deployed within 475 feet of the beach at the Alabama Main Park pavilion in Gulf Shores, Romar beach, and the East Park on Perdido Key. So on calm and clear days these are easily accessible by anyone swimming from the beach, and should eventually attract a variety of gulf life. They will be easy to locate, with a “marker” post to be positioned on the beach with a plaque containing information on the site, positioned due-north of the reefs location in the water.
These “reefs” are just another example of Alabama’s dedication to enhancing our existing coastal natural resources habitats not only “offshore”- but near-shore, as well as Inshore.
We will soon update our website interactive map to include these new snorkel reefs- so be sure to check it out!

*May I just remind everyone snorkeling or diving these reefs, that the use of a “diver down” flag is required and is for your safety.

Snorkeling at Perdido Pass in Orange Beach AL... Crab Takes a Tumble!
Went snorkeling at the east jetty (Rock Island) at Perdido Pass in Orange Beach AL with my Son Ralph and Niece Brittany and on the way back in we saw three sharks and one was very close to the jetty! The water was a little rough but managed to get some interesting footage including a crab being forced out of its safe haven within the rocks by a strong current (0:08). We saw a variety of tropical fish (2:33), which included some catfish (2:19).
