The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is the world’s largest and most powerful particle accelerator. It first started up on 10 September 2008, and remains the latest addition to CERN’s accelerator complex. The LHC consists of a 27-kilometre ring of superconducting magnets with a number of accelerating structures to boost the energy of the particles along the way.
ATLAS is one of two general-purpose detectors at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). It investigates a wide range of physics, from the search for the Higgs boson to extra dimensions and particles that could make up dark matter. Although it has the same scientific goals as the CMS experiment, it uses different technical solutions and a different magnet-system design.
ALICE (A Large Ion Collider Experiment) is a heavy-ion detector on the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) ring. It is designed to study the physics of strongly interacting matter at extreme energy densities, where a phase of matter called quark-gluon plasma forms.
A range of experiments at CERN investigate physics from cosmic rays to supersymmetry.

In this short guide you will learn how to find a zip code by address, which can be useful if you want to send a surprise letter to someone but you don't know their zip code.
Step # 1 -- Visit USPS.com
To get started, open up your web browser and visit usps.com. You will know that you're on the correct page if you see Look up a ZIP Code in big text.
Step # 2 -- Filling in the Form
In order to figure out the zip code you will need to fill out this short form. You will need to know the rest of the address in order for the website to tell you the correct zip code. Fill in Street Address, City and State to continue.
Step # 3 -- Finding out the ZIP Code
Now all you need to do is click the blue Find button and the website will pull up the complete address. The next page will say You entered: and then list the incomplete address that you filled in. Directly below, you will see either one, or a list of addresses. Most likely, you just see one and you can then determine the zip code by address.

chapter 9: A People's History (Of The United States) Howard Zinn.

Chapter 9, Slavery Without Submission, Emancipation Without Freedom addresses slave rebellions, the abolition movement, the Civil War, and the effect of these events on African-Americans. Zinn writes that the large-scale violence of the war was used to end slavery instead of the small-scale violence of the rebellions because the latter may have expanded beyond anti-slavery, resulting in a movement against the capitalist system. He writes that the war could limit the freedom granted to African-Americans by allowing the government control over how that freedom was gained.

Audra McDonald, the 2018 recipient of the Eugene McDermott Award in the Arts at MIT, shares timely stories from her career in a public presentation with Oskar Eustis, the Artistic Director of the Public Theater in New York.

On the occasion of the Award, the conversation covered topics including McDonald’s most memorable and career-defining roles on Broadway, her current concert tour and television series, and her off-stage social advocacy on behalf of underserved youth and the LGBTQ community. Eustis and McDonald also discussed how theatrical revivals—such as McDonald’s performances in A Raisin in the Sun, Ragtime, The Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess, and more recently, Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill—reflected their times and the evolution of social attitudes and cultural experiences.
Eustis, who directed McDonald in the role of Olivia in the Public Theater’s 2009 production of Twelfth Night, likewise engages with issues of social import in his work, such as inclusion and access for both theater makers and audiences. For more than 60 years, the Public Theater has operated on the principles that theater is an essential cultural force and that art and culture belong to everyone.
McDonald, the winner of a record-breaking six Tony Awards, two Grammy Awards and an Emmy Award, visited the campus during the semester to work with students in MIT’s music and theater arts classes and ensembles.

This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. If you had 30 days to live, how would you make the most of your short time left? It’s a trick question. How we experience time is not based on the ticking of the clock, but rather, by the moments that are so out of the ordinary that we perpetually remember them. These moments mark our lives, and through creating them every day, we can effectively live decades longer.
John has been chasing time since he was very young, trying to compress more activity (meters, laps, miles, transactions, data) into less time. Since age 8, John has competed in over 4000 bike races over a 30+ year racing career, including a top ten finish in the world cycling championships. John also spent a decade on the national speed skating team, competing in 9 world championships, winning 3 world medals, and winning a silver medal in short-track speed skating at the 1994 Winter Olympics. John now serves an expert commentator for NBC Olympics every four years.
Recently, John joined Maddock Douglas, an innovation consultancy, where he leads their innovation leadership development practice, guiding senior executives into the mindsets, practices, skills and toolsets required to be leaders of the future.
