House of Dr. Sun Yat-Sen, Zhongshan, China

Today, I ventured off to Cuiheng Village in Central Zhongshan. It’s an area of the city that is surprising not easy to get to using public transportation and a taxi would cost a pretty penny. However, once you get here, it’s amazing.
The entire area is preserved. You can’t take pictures inside the house, but it’s free to get in. I was the only foreigner in the area and they made that known. It’s great little tour of Chinese history and the museum has a 1st class exhibits.
Afterwards I met up with some of my friends downtown for a little late night street BBQ and beers. It was a fun, late night.

DR SUN YAT-SEN MUSEUM
Built in 1914, the Dr Sun Yat-sen Museum is located in the Kom Tong Hall, originally the residence of Ho Kom-tong, the younger brother of the Hong Kong's magnate Robert Hotung. Being a typical Edwardian Classical building, this four-storey building has the facade surrounded by the Greek-style granite columns. Inside the premises are preserved the stained-glass windows, balcony wall tiles and staircase railings in good condition. The Kom Tong Hall is among the best-preserved buildings dating back to the early 20th century Hong Kong.
Apart from its majestic appearance, Kom Tong Hall was among the earliest residential buildings constructed with reinforced concrete structure and fitted with concealed electrical wiring in Hong Kong. It sets an important milestone in the development of building construction.
Dr. Sun Yat-sen in Tokyo
In the late Qing dynasty, under the oppressive and corrupt rule, the people were living in dire poverty and China was in turmoil. To revive China for his countrymen, Dr. Sun overthrew the Manchu dynasty and established a republic that embodies the spirit of the Three Principles of the People: which is for the people, by the people, of the people.Japan served as one of the bases of Dr. Sun’s revolutionary movement and was where he spent one sixth of his time throughout the course of the revolution. With the support of the overseas Chinese, in 1905, Dr. Sun founded the Chinese Revolutionary Alliance (Tongmenghui) in Tokyo. His political goal was to establish a republic that embodied The Three Principles of the People and received wide acceptance in Japan. Dr. Sun’s Japanese friend, Shōkichi Umeya, provided substantial funds that were an important force in support of the revolution. Shōkichi Umeya and Dr. Sun became acquainted in Hong Kong and soon forged a close friendship. Umeya is said to have told him: You rise up in arms; I will support you financially. His generosity contributed much to the overthrow of the Qing dynasty. Interview with Ayano Kosaka, great-granddaughter of Shōkichi Umeya
Shōkichi Umeya was my maternal great-grandfather. He was the first Japanese Dr. Sun’s befriended. Because of their friendship, Dr. Sun traveled to Japan frequently and many people supported the revolution. However, at that time, many people were opposed to Dr. Sun and Madame Soong Ching-ling’s marriage. My great grand-mother helped them and organized the wedding ceremony here. Dr. Sun Yat-sen traveled the world tirelessly in pursuit of his revolutionary goals. Tracing his footsteps reminds people today of that period of history and his great deeds.
China Commemorates Sun Yat-sen's 150th Birthday
China held a convention in Beijing on Friday morning to commemorate the 150th birthday of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, a revered revolutionary leader who played a pivotal role in overthrowing feudal rule in the country.
Chinese President Xi Jinping, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, delivered a keynote speech at the event.

Dr. Sun Yat-sen was a great national hero, a great patriot, and a great pioneer of the Chinese Democratic Revolution. He dedicated all his life to the revolution, was resolved to save the nation and people, and made contributions to the Chinese nation that will shine forever in history, he added.
Born in 1866 in south China's Guangdong Province, Dr. Sun Yat-sen was the founder of the Kuomintang Party.

2017Dr. Sun Yat-sen Museum HK

China's Reformers and Revolutionaries | Sun Yat-sen and Kang Youwei
Consider Supporting HoH: The last decades of the Qing empire saw the concurrent rise of a strong reform movement and the first truly modern Chinese revolutionary party - the Guomindang of Dr. Sun Yat-Sen. This week we’ll look into the background of the important reformers and revolutionary movements within China, that eventually toppled the Qing dynasty. To be fair: this video is centred more around Sun Yat-sen, as the most important reform movements have already been covered in two previous videos. Sun Yat-sen’s story, however, well, the man certainly lived an adventurous life, to say the least.
