A minute's silence has been observed across Britain in tribute to the victims of the Dunblane massacre.
Television networks and railway stations came to a standstill as the whole country mourned the 16 children and their teacher.
A moving memorial service has been held in the cathedral city itself.
At 0930 on Sunday morning, almost exactly four days after the Dunblane killings, a silence fell across Britain as the nation remembered the victims of the Primary School Massacre.
Outside Dunblane Cathedral, on a grey Mothering Sunday, mourners bowed their heads - many weeping.
The silence, suggested by Britain's Prime Minister John Major, was observed in shops and supermarkets as well as railway stations.
Outside Dunblane Primary School, where a huge bank of flowers has been left, the minute's remembrance was most poignantly observed.
At 10 o'clock, a memorial service was held inside the packed cathedral.
The Reverend Colin McIntosh paid particular attention to the children in the congregation, still struggling to come to terms with the tragedy.

As the names of the dead were read out, the congregation bowed their heads and many were in tears.
Later on Sunday, Britain's Queen Elizabeth and her daughter, the Princess Royal, visited Dunblane.
They visited the Cathedral where they met staff from the school and emergency services.
The Queen laid a posy of flowers - NOT a wreath outside the school vefore visiting the injured in Stirling Royal Infirmary.

Dunblane Cathedral
Bishop Clement initiated the erection of the building in the middle of the 13th century but the lower part of the tower is older (12th century) its rounded Romanesque windows are small and there are none at ground level, indicating that it was a place of refuge in times of danger. Following the Reformation, c.1600, the nave roof collapsed but the chancel, with 'lofts' or galleries added served as the parish church. The Cathedral was fully restored and rededicated in 1893.

Dunblane is a town in the council area of Stirling in central Scotland. It is a commuter town, with many residents making use of good transport links to much of the Central Belt, including Glasgow and Edinburgh. Dunblane is built on the banks of the Allan Water (or River Allan), a tributary of the River Forth. Dunblane Cathedral is its most prominent landmark. Dunblane had a population of 8,114 at the 2001 census which grew to 8,811 at the 2011 census, both figures computed according to the 2010 definition of the locality.
The most popular theory for the derivation of the name Dunblane is that it means fort of Blane, commemorating Saint Blane (or Bláán in Old Irish), an early Christian saint who lived probably in the late 6th century. His main seat was originally Kingarth on the Isle of Bute. He or his followers may have founded a church at Dunblane; the cult of Bláán possibly came there with settlers from what is now Argyll in later centuries. The earliest spellings of the name Dunblane are of the form Dul Blaan, the first element being a Pictish word for 'water meadow, haugh' which was borrowed into Gaelic. There are parallels to Dul Blaan in such Scottish place-names as Dalserf, Dalmarnock and Dalpatrick, all of which commemorate saints.
The earliest evidence for Christianity on the site are two cross-slabs of the 10th to 11th centuries which are preserved in the cathedral. Incorporated into the later medieval building, but originally free-standing, is an 11th-century bell-tower, whose height was increased in the 15th century. The nave and aisleless choir are 13th century. Dunblane did not have a rich or extensive medieval diocese (37 parishes), and the cathedral is relatively modest in scale, but its refined architecture is much admired, as is its setting overlooking the valley of the Allan Water.
After the Reformation, the nave of the cathedral was abandoned and soon became roofless and used for burials. The choir was retained as the parish church. The nave was re-roofed and the cathedral provided with new furnishings by Robert Rowand Anderson between 1889 and 1893. During the boom years of the Hydropathy movement in the 19th century, Dunblane was the location of a successful hydropathic establishment.
Since the early 1970s the town has grown extensively and is now regarded as a highly sought-after commuter town due to its excellent road and rail links and good schools. Dunblane is close to the University of Stirling's campus at Bridge of Allan, and is a popular location for academics. Japanese Wagyu beef is now being raised in Dunblane.
Dunblane currently has two supermarkets, a Tesco (opened in 1996) and a M&S Foodhall (opened in 2009), as well as a local Co-op (opened after the Marks and Spencer). Among other shops, the High Street has two independent butchers and branches of the Bank of Scotland and Royal Bank of Scotland. Over the course of 6 years, a small group of young local boys and their parents raised money to build a skatepark in the Laighills. The skatepark was completed on 23 February 2007 and has already been visited by Death skateboard team and by the Vans UK Tour.

Prince Charles was among mourners who attended a memorial service Wednesday to remember the 16 children and their teacher shot dead by a lone gunman in the Scottish city of Dunblane earlier this year.
The city came to a standstill Wednesday as around 600 mourners attended the service at the city's cathedral.
Dunblane -- a city and community still shattered by the tragic killings of 16 children and their teacher on March 13 this year.
Around 600 mourners filed into the city's cathedral for a memorial service to remember the young victims Wednesday, among them Prince Charles.
Lone gunman Thomas Hamilton brutally changed the fate of this city earlier this year when he walked into a school and opened fire on its children and teachers.
Families, teachers, friends and some of the paramedics who were first on the scene attended the service.
It was led by the priest who conducted the funerals of those who died.
The Very Reverend Professor James Whyte, who conducted a memorial service after the Lockerbie air disaster, gave the sermon.
He had this message:

Darkness fell on many families and indeed on this entire community on the morning of 13th of March. Light was turned into darkness. And yet in a memorial service, even after six months, and six months is a short time in the history of grief, darkness cannot be allowed the last word.

One by one, families and friends walked up to the altar and lit a candle for the child they had lost.
A larger candle was lit for their teacher, Gwenne Mayor, who was also killed in the attack.
Reverend Whyte told the congregation that many of them would find the inner strength to move forward, eventually putting Dunblane behind them.
But, he said, the attack would never be forgotten.

Those who lost a dear one, clearly have a journey to make, through their grief. The survivors who lost their innocence on that dreadful morning, whose lives are scarred, they also have a journey to make. And all of us who have shared the horror must make our journey out of that horror into a safer and more civilised society.

Hamilton, a loner and gun enthusiast, walked into the school on March 13, armed with four handguns, and opened fire on a class of 4- and 5-year-olds before killing himself.
The shooting started a campaign to outlaw handguns in Britain.
The memorial service was planned for Wednesday on the assumption that a report into the massacre would be published by now.
But in response to concerns about the report coming out in the middle of the party conference season, it will not be handed to the Government until Monday.

Queen Elizabeth and the Princess Royal today arrived in Dunblane to join in the national mourning for the 17 victims of the school gym massacre.
On this grey Mothering Sunday Queen Elizabeth and Princess Anne went first to the 13th century cathedral where an emotional service in the aftermath of the massacre was held earlier today.
The Queen spent 15 minutes talking privately to 30 people whose children have been killed or injured.
Then she and Princess Anne took their own floral tributes to the victims of the massacre.
They joined the thousands of flowers which now form a carpet extending along the pavement beside the school.
The Princess brought north with her a small posy of snowdrops she had
picked from her own garden earlier in the day.
The Queen brought a bouquet of pink and yellow flowers - deliberately, not a wreath.
She laid it outside the school gates, immediately followed by her daughter's wreath.
Queen Elizabeth was accompanied at the scene by the Scottish Secretary Michael Forsyth MP.
She spent several minutes outside the school, pausing to talk to bystanders and then looked at other floral tributes, many of which have been sent from all over the world.
She then moved on to Stirling Royal Infirmary, where she met doctors who led the emergency operation.
She also went to the children's ward to meet other medical staff who were involved in the harrowing treatment of youngsters.
And there was a private visit to the bedsides of children injured in the shooting.

20 years ago a man went into a primary school in Dunblane, Scotland. He went into the gymnasium where a Primary 1 class and three teachers were. He shot dead 16 students and 1 teacher. Even after 20 years the 17 victims are still remembered.

Floral tributes continue to mount outside the school gates of Dunblane Primary School in Scotland - the scene of Wednesday's horrific massacre.
A lone gunman killed 16 pupils and their teachers in the school's gymnasium before killing himself.
Floral tributes continued to mount Thursday at the school gates of Dunblane Primary School as the community tried to come to terms with Wednesday's horrific events.
Hundreds of bouquets were delivered throughout the day as the school remained closed under police guard.
Both young and old placed their flowers on the growing pile.
The violent deaths of so many young children, all of them were aged five and six has deeply shocked this town and the whole country.
One bouquet called them ``Angels'' others asked ``why?''
Thursday night saw hundreds gather for mass at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Dunblane.
Called a 'Mass for the Tragedy', they came to mourn and share their grief with the rest of the community.
The mass was closed to the media so they could be spared the
spotlight which has been on them ever since Wednesday morning.
This town of 9-thousand people is a strong churchgoing community and the church hopes its services will offer some comfort to them.
Dunblane Cathedral, a Church of Scotland place of worship, will also hold a service of 'reconciliation and support' on Sunday.
