Note* If your planing on the ride to Uchimunai Church make sure to you got 3L + of water, a decent set of dirt tires and do not snap pics of the church without asking the villagers.(They saw me taking snaps of the church and the whole village gathered around me asking why was I taking pics of the church, some didn't believe me at 1st as I was alone, they thought I was going to make money off selling pics. They even took a pic of me yah, that's when I got freaked out. Some how got them to believe me after showing few of my travel pics with the motorcycle. Phew... ) After all they are nice people, struggling to live along and they've had enough with people who come along promising hopes and never show up again* This was told by them F.Y.I.

300 Years Old Fort | Dutch Fort - Kalpitiya Sri Lanka
Kalpitiya was known by the ancient Tamils as Kav Putti and was a popular hub for Arab merchants. In 1544 the Portuguese invaded the area, naming the area Kardiv Island. The King of Portugal bestowing the territory to the Jesuits, who built a chapel here, established a small garrison to defend it. In an effort to free the port from the Portuguese the King of Kandy, King Rasjasinha II, sought assistance from the Dutch, who in 1659 conquered the area but did not return it to the King. Instead, they commenced construction of a fort in 1667, which was completed in 1676. Kalpitiya was strategically important for the Dutch East India Company (VOC), as it enabled them to control the external trade of the Kingdom of Kandy, by controlling the large Muslim trading community in the area.
The fort is nearly square in shape, with walls about 4 m (13 ft) high, constructed out of coral and limestone from the surrounding area. It has a single entrance, which fronts the lagoon, which has a pediment, with a belfry above and looks like the entrance to a church.

Ruwala Nature & Adventure Park is located in Thihaliya over looking the 2nd largest lagoon in Sri Lanka Putlam Lagoon.
Concept - Nature Resort that blends with the Environment. Every effort is being taken to preserve the gifts of nature in pristine condition.The park is divided into two sections by a sand bank; Eco friendly Chalets over looking the lagoon and Cabanas built on stilts in the mangrove marshes and the Camping site.

Two spacious luxury chalets comprising of 4 units which could accommodate 16 guests are located on the banks of the lagoon. A spectacular view of the sun rise can be witnessed from the bed from each chalet. Two Eco huts (Double room Cabanas) on stilts adjoining the Mangrove Marshes are an attraction for the bird watchers.Spacious restaurant with lagoon view which caters exotic sea food can house 40 guests.

Boating facilities are available for the more adventurous holiday makers to explore the islands or even go 'Dolphin watching'. Emphasis on water sports. Special boating trips can be arranged to visit nearby islands to camp out the night with a sumptuous B B Q. You could challenge yourself with your fishing gear and return to Ruwala after breakfast the following morning. A stand - by boat with Ruwala staff equipped with lighting, communication and relevant gear will be made available during the night out at the Island.
A fully equipped camp site for the out-door lovers is on offer. Camping area consists of various types of tents with adequate toilet and bathrooms. Recreational facilities such as volley ball, soft ball cricket, kayaking, boating, climbing wall etc. and host of other features ie. Camp fire, B-B-Q etc. are available.
The key attraction of the resort is the clump of around 100 yr old palms which are in a circular formation. This has been treated as a centre court, the rest of the buildings have been constructed to radiate from the centre court which has an open air hang out area with hammocks and easy chairs with facilities for a Bon-fire. The roof top of restaurant is a chill-out area.
A fully equipped camping site inclusive of tents with mattresses, pillows and linen with authentic Sea Food Sri Lankan meals.Ample bunker type spotless toilette and rain showers opening up to the sky for ladies and gents over looking the lagoon Ambalama an Eco hut on the bank of the lagoon where one can relax and stretch out or have meals on Banku kota or Theppama gazing at the panoramic view of the lagoon.

Kalpitiya is a peninsula set in between the deep lagoon of Puttalam to the east and the magnificent Indian Ocean to the west. It is an unrivalled marine sanctuary with a diversity of habitats ranging from bar reefs, flat coastal plains, saltpans, mangrove swamps, salt marshes and vast sand dune. The Kalpitiya peninsula is 48 km long and 6-8 km wide while it is studded with fine sandy beaches which make you yearn for a beach holiday.
We planned for one-day trip to Kalpitiya among our busy schedules. We started our journey in the early morning and managed to reach Kalpiitiya at about 6 am. We covered Suwkku Kudh Beach (near Alankudda Beach), Sandy Heaven (narrow sand route on one side the Indian Ocean and the other side Kalpitiya lagoon with Mangroves and varieties of habitats), Dutch Fort, and Kayak Tour over Kalpitiya Lagoon.

The Alternative Nobel Prize which is known as the Rights Livelihood Award 2014 was awarded to Mr. Basil Fernando in Swedish Parliament on 1st Dec.2014. A Thanksgiving Mass was celebrated at the Mount Carmel Church Palliyawatta Handala at his native place by the villagers and his relatives on 2nd of Dec. 2014.The chief celebrant of the holy Mass was Rev. Fr. Stan Peiris.The co-celebrants were Rev. Fr. Aloysius Peiris and Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Janze.After the Holy Mass there was a meeting at the church hall to appreciate and recognize his dedicated service to the humanity.
