4K City Walks: National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh - Virtual Walk Walking Treadmill Video is a bit different than my usual fair. I'm trying something new with this walking tour of the National Museum of Scotland. It's truly one of the most amazing museums I've been to. It's very well done and laid out and the building itself is worth the FREE ENTRY! It has exhibits in science, technology, art, history, culture, and more. My kids love it and we've been at least four times in two trips to Edinburgh. Personally, my favorite part is the atrium. It's so bright and beautiful and airy.

How to See the Hogwarts Express, aka Jacobite Train, cross the Glenfinnan Viaduct:
Step 1 – Reference this Google Maps walking route
(Note: there is free parking 200 meters NW of the Glenfinnan Monument Parking lot, where you turn right on A830, but you’ll need to get there early to get a space):
Step 2 – Check the dates & times the Jacobite train runs:
Step 3 – Plan ahead and arrive early!
The train passes the viaduct approximately 30 minutes after departing from Fort William station. The train will pass around 10:45am if departing from Fort William at 10:15am and pass around 3:10pm if leaving Fort William at 2:40pm. The walk from the parking lot will take you 15 to 20 minutes.
Step 4 – Find your favorite spot to view the train
When the train departs Fort William for Mallaig, it will be heading West. We recommend finding a spot on the far left (West) and South of the viaduct to get the best views. You’ll want to give yourself 15 minutes to find your favorite spot before the train arrives.
Step 5 – Capture the moment with photos and videos!
Final advice, plan to arrive at least one hour before the train passes the viaduct to give you plenty of time to secure a parking space, walk to the viaduct and locate your favorite position to watch the train.

Places to see in ( Edinburgh - UK )
Edinburgh is Scotland's compact, hilly capital. It has a medieval Old Town and elegant Georgian New Town with gardens and neoclassical buildings. Looming over the city is Edinburgh Castle, home to Scotland’s crown jewels and the Stone of Destiny, used in the coronation of Scottish rulers. Arthur’s Seat is an imposing peak in Holyrood Park with sweeping views, and Calton Hill is topped with monuments and memorials.
Edinburgh is the capital city of Scotland and one of its 32 local government council areas. Located in Lothian on the Firth of Forth's southern shore, Edinburgh is Scotland's second most populous city and the seventh most populous in the United Kingdom. Recognised as the capital of Scotland since at least the 15th century, Edinburgh is home to the Scottish Parliament and the seat of the monarchy in Scotland. The city is also the annual venue of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland and home to national institutions such as the National Museum of Scotland, the National Library of Scotland and the Scottish National Gallery. It is the largest financial centre in the UK after London.
Historically part of Midlothian, the city has long been a centre of education, particularly in the fields of medicine, Scots law, literature, the sciences and engineering. The University of Edinburgh, founded in 1582 and now one of four in the city, was placed 17th in the QS World University Rankings in 2013 and 2014. The city is also famous for the Edinburgh International Festival and the Fringe, the latter being the world's largest annual international arts festival. The city's historical and cultural attractions have made it the United Kingdom's second most popular tourist destination after London, attracting over one million overseas visitors each year. Historic sites in Edinburgh include Edinburgh Castle, Holyrood Palace, the churches of St. Giles, Greyfriars and the Canongate, and the extensive Georgian New Town, built in the 18th century. Edinburgh's Old Town and New Town together are listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which has been managed by Edinburgh World Heritage since 1999.
Situated in Scotland's Central Belt, Edinburgh lies on the Firth of Forth's southern shore. The city centre is 2 1⁄2 miles (4.0 km) southwest of the shoreline of Leith and 26 miles (42 km) inland, as the crow flies, from the east coast of Scotland and the North Sea at Dunbar.[56] While the early burgh grew up near the prominent Castle Rock, the modern city is often said to be built on seven hills, namely Calton Hill, Corstorphine Hill, Craiglockhart Hill, Braid Hill, Blackford Hill, Arthur's Seat and the Castle Rock
Edinburgh Airport is Scotland's busiest and biggest airport and the principal international gateway to the capital, handling around 11 million passengers in 2015. Travel in Edinburgh is undertaken predominantly by bus. Lothian Buses operate the majority of city bus services within the city and to surrounding suburbs, with the most routes running via Princes Street. Services further afield operate from the Edinburgh Bus Station off St Andrew Square and Waterloo Place and are operated mainly by Stagecoach, Scottish Citylink, National Express Coaches, First Scotland East & Perryman's Buses. Edinburgh Waverley Station is the second-busiest railway station in Scotland, with only Glasgow Central handling more passengers.

Places to see in ( Edinburgh - UK ) Royal Mile
The Royal Mile is the name given to a succession of streets forming the main thoroughfare of the Old Town of the city of Edinburgh in Scotland. The name of Royal Mile was first used in W M Gilbert's Edinburgh in the Nineteenth Century (1901), and was further popularised as the title of a guidebook, published in 1920.
The thoroughfare, as the name suggests, Royal Mile is approximately one Scots mile long and runs downhill between two significant locations in the history of Scotland, namely Edinburgh Castle and Holyrood Palace. The streets of Royal Mile which make up the Royal Mile are (west to east) Castlehill, the Lawnmarket, the High Street, the Canongate and Abbey Strand. The Royal Mile is the busiest tourist street in the Old Town, rivalled only by Princes Street in the New Town.
Retreating ice sheets, many millennia ago, deposited their glacial debris behind the hard volcanic plug of the castle rock on which Edinburgh Castle stands, resulting in a distinctive crag and tail formation. Running eastwards from the crag (i.e. the castle rock), the Royal Mile sits upon the ridge of the tail which slopes gently down to Holyrood Palace. Steep closes (or alleyways) run between the many tall lands (or tenement buildings) off the main thoroughfare. The route runs from an elevation of 42 meters above sea level at the palace, to 109 meters at the castle, for an average gradient of 4.1%.
The Castle Esplanade was laid out as a parade ground, in 1753, using spoil from the building of the Royal Exchange (now the City Chambers). It was formalised in 1816 when it was widened and provided with decorative railings and walls. The Esplanade with its several monuments has been A-listed by Historic Scotland. It is the venue of the annual Edinburgh Military Tattoo at which time specially designed temporary grandstands are erected. Cannonball House is notable for a cannonball lodged in the wall, often said to have been accidentally fired from the Castle but which actually marks the elevation of Comiston springs, three miles to the south of the Castle, which fed a cistern on Castlehill, one of the first piped water supplies in Scotland.
Today, the Royal Mile is an eclectic mix of shops, restaurants, pubs and visitor attractions. During the annual Edinburgh Festival, the High Street becomes crowded with tourists, entertainers and buskers. Parliament Square is at the heart of Scotland's legal system, being the home of both the High Court of Justiciary and the Court of Session. In January 2012, the City of Edinburgh Council held a summit with residents, traders and other interested parties to discuss the issue of tourist merchandise, described by some as 'Tartan Tat', taking over the street, and how the Royal Mile can be made into a five-star visitor attraction.
This street is the short approach to Holyrood Palace at the foot of the Canongate. One of the buildings on the north side was the house of Lucky Spence, a notorious brothel madam, remembered in Allan Ramsay's poem, Lucky Spence's Last Advice. On the south side is the Queen's Gallery, used to exhibit items in the Royal collection, in the shell of the former Holyrood Free Church and Duchess of Gordon's School. There are also the remains of the gatehouse of Holyrood Palace built by James IV, with a copy of the royal coat-of-arms of James V set in the wall.
Beyond the crossroads, the Royal Mile continues down the Canongate, meaning literally the canons' way when it was used in former times by the Augustinian canons of Holyrood Abbey. The street continues downhill past Moray House (now the main academic offices of Moray House School of Education of the University of Edinburgh), the old Canongate Tolbooth (now a museum of social history called The People's Story), the Kirk of the Canongate (the Canongate's parish church and a thriving congregation of the Church of Scotland) and the new Scottish Parliament Building to Holyrood Palace and the ruined abbey. Until 1856 the Canongate was not merely a street, but the name of the surrounding burgh, separate from Edinburgh and outside the Flodden Wall.

Founded in 1670 as a physic garden to grow medicinal plants, today it occupies four sites across Scotland—Edinburgh, Dawyck, Logan and Benmore—each with its own specialist collection. It was known as the Water of Leith Village and was the centre of a successful grain milling area for more than 800 years. Edinburgh, Scotland - Travel Around The World | Top best places to visit in Edinburgh
Top best places to visit in Edinburgh, Scotland
Edinburgh, the capital city of Scotland, lies in the northern part of the United Kingdom.
Home to the Scottish Parliament and Scotland seat of the monarchy, Edinburgh holds the nickname “Athens of the North”, due to its many neoclassical buildings and its reputation for learning.
One of the best attractions in the city is a magnificent royal fortress, located on one of the highest points of the city, Edinburgh Castle.
The castle has continuously been in use for a 1000 years and despite its many concerts on the castle esplanade it is in excellent condition.
Running downhill, between Edinburgh Castle and Holyrood Palace, the Royal Mile is the busiest tourist street in the Old Town with its many shops, restaurants, pubs and visitor attractions.
Along this street, on Parliament Square, stands the principal place of worship, St Giles’ Cathedral.
Around the cathedral are historic buildings such as Mary King’s Close, the City Chambers, the Old Parliament House and the Supreme Courts.
In the Old Town are also the National Library of Scotland and, a little bit further, the National Museum of Scotland.
This district has many colorful, lively and unique streets that are worth a walk, like Victoria Street
or the Grassmarket Area.
On the other side of the Royal Mile is the New Town, home to the Scottish National Gallery,
And next to it, the Royal Scottish Academy.
Further along is the Scott Monument, a huge intricate Gothic monument dedicated to Sir Walter Scott.
It is possible to climb 200 ft above the city center to enjoy its fantastic views.
Another good place to see the city from high up is Calton Hill.
Besides great views there are also various landmarks including the City Observatory, the Nelson Monument and the National Monument of Scotland.
On the steep slope of the hill is the headquarters of the Scottish Government and the New Parliament Building.
Nearby, at the end of the Royal Mile, is the Palace of Holyroodhouse, a royal residence and the Queen’s Gallery.
From there you can climb to Holyrood Park and enjoy nature... and the city.
