Edward Ball Wakulla Springs State Park
Home of the world’s largest and deepest freshwater springs, the sapphire water of Wakulla Springs boasts manatees, alligators and a host of diverse wildlife that can be viewed from a riverboat or the diving platform.
The invigorating 70 degree waters are sure to refresh you on even the hottest summer days. The historic lodge is an elegant remnant of old Florida, and the ancient cypress swamps made the perfect backdrop for old Hollywood movies.
Wakulla Springs is a place where history stretches back thousands of years, from early Native Americans who lived in shoreline villages to filmmakers who recognized the primeval quality of the park’s swamps and wildlife when they decided to film Tarzan’s Secret Treasure (1941) and Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954) here.
Today, visitors can swim where mastodons once roamed and take guided boat tours where dugout canoes once glided across the cool waters. Alligators, manatees and an abundance of bird life can all be seen, and visitors can also marvel at a 1930s Spanish style lodge with its period furniture, original elevators and colorful painted ceilings that depict wildlife and Old Florida scenes.

Twenty Thousand Years Ago! (1931)
United States of America.
Introductory intertitle reads: Using specially designed equipment these unusual pictures were made of the discovery of prehistoric Mastodon fossils, in the depths of Wakulla Springs, Florida. L/S of the Springs. M/S of a man having diving helmet placed on his shoulders. He is lowered into the water. Underwater shots of the man at the bottom of the Springs, he picks up a large bone. The man is then helped to the surface. Another underwater shot. The bone is raised up out of the lake. Shots of the diver are intercut with shots of the men on the surface wakpulling up the bones.
Mr C. Ponton, the well-known American Geologist, explains the unique collection. Four men stand on a dock looking at the very large dinosaur bones that have been salvaged. Mr Ponton speaks about the finds. Closer shot of the men who look at one of the bones.
Note: this is the first item on the reel - there is no opening main title sequence. Sound on the first section of this film is rather poor. It is probably integral sound filmed at the scene. Men shout things like That's a big one! as the bones are lifted from the water.

COASTAL DUNE LAKES JEWELS OF FLORIDA'S EMERALD COAST
The coastal dune lakes of northwest Florida are home to many diverse species-some of them endangered such as the loggerhead sea turtle, the snowy plover, and the Choctawhatchee beach mouse. These lakes also offer locals and visitors a peaceful haven, which has led to an increase in human activity resulting in both positive and negative effects. Journey with filmmaker Elam Stoltzfus to see what makes these lakes unique and how they are being protected. The film explores what local organizations are doing to ensure that future generations can enjoy Florida's natural beauty and endangered wildlife, and also travels to New South Wales, Australia to offer insight about the rare phenomenon of coastal dune lakes around the world.
