Elizabeth City 300 Truck and Tractor Pull @ Morgan’s Corner Pulling Park [CC]
This Truck and Tractor Pull happened in June 2013, while I still worked at the Elizabeth City Convention & Visitors Bureau, at Morgan’s Corner Pulling Park. Though I have great footage (at least I think so) I didn't note all the names who pulled so that is why they aren't marked on the video. HOWEVER ... turn on the closed captions to try to understand what the announcers are saying. I hope you'll enjoy! [Closed Captioning is Available]

9 Spookiest Places on the Jersey Shore
We are a technology based real estate team that is dedicated to the client experience. On today’s Halloween Episode we are going to share some of the spookiest places to visit on the Jersey Shore.
New Jersey has its share of urban legends.
But there are more than mythical creatures like the Jersey Devil of the Pine Barrens.
From haunted hills to frightening forts to spooky schools, there are many scary places to visit on the Jersey Shore.
For 200 years, Fort Hancock in Middletown, was considered a strategically important location by the military because of its coastal position and proximity to Raritan Bay. Since the fort was abandoned in 1974, the now dilapidated buildings and grounds are reported to be filled with strange noises and the spirits of children and soldiers.
The Seabrook-Wilson House, known as the Spy House in Port Monmouth, is reportedly one of the most haunted houses in the United States. It is rumored to be haunted by the specter of a woman who stares out to sea, a dead pirate named Robert, a British Red Coat soldier and other former inhabitants of the 300-year-old building.
The spirit of a boy killed in a shark attack lingers by his grave in Rose Hill Cemetery, according to one local ghost hunter. A young man who attempted to save the boy also was bitten and died as a result. Both victims are buried at Rose Hill.
Next up, is Old Tennent Church in Manalapan. After a Revolutionary War soldier died inside the church after being struck by a cannonball in the Battle of Monmouth, his spirit remained on the grounds, according to some ghost hunters. Outside of the church, the gravestones of Capt. Henry Fauntleroy seems to provide evidence to the story. Fauntleroy was killed by a cannonball in the Battle of Monmouth in 1778.
According to some hikers, headless soldiers haunt the fields and forests of Monmouth Battlefield, though more than 200 years have passed since hundreds of American and British soldiers were killed in the Revolutionary War battle held there.
Time appears frozen at Allaire village in Wall since its heyday in the 1830s. Some visitors to the village say they have seen an ephemeral white woman gliding across the village meadows. Others are convinced the ghost of a former resident still prowls the basement of the Visitors' Center.
The spirit of the school's namesake, Elizabeth V. Edwards , is believed to appear occasionally to school employees working in the empty building. Sometimes, she is seen with the ghost of a former custodian
Next up is Kapler’s Pharmacy in Beach Haven. Employees hear footsteps or radios playing in an empty apartment above the pharmacy or find old apothecary bottles moved from places that are difficult to reach.
Some say ghosts roam the halls and back corners of the old Paramount Theatre in Asbury Park, which was built after a fire destroyed a portion of Asbury Park's boardwalk. The historic theater also is within yards of where the SS Castle Morro beached in 1930 after a catastrophic fire killed more than a quarter of its passengers. Take a look.
And that’s the top 9 scariest places to visit. And speaking about scary. Buying and selling real estate in NJ can get scary unless you have the right agent on your side. If you know someone who is looking to buy, sell or invest in NJ real estate visit my website at getrealnj.com
2009 Secret City Festival Oak Ridge, Tennessee
This is going to be a great festival, said Jane Gibson, festival coordinator. Weve really tried hard to bring new ideas to the festival year after year, and I think we have succeeded this year in a number of ways, but most noticeably with our entertainment lineup.
The festival will feature something new as its Friday night entertainment this year. A USO Variety Style Show, sponsored by Pro2Serve and CROET, will feature big band music, swing dance music, and a Bob Hope imitator.
The USO Variety Style Show will begin at 7 pm on Friday, June 19 at AK Bissell Park. Friday nights lineup will include a plethora of exciting entertainment including opening act, the Atomic Horns Show Band, a local group that will get the crowd energized with their lively set.
Another featured performer is Bob Hope impersonator, Bill Johnson, whose professional career spans more than twenty-five years. Johnson has forged his niche on stage, screen, and television as a dependable character actor. His tribute acts to Bob Hope and Christopher Lloyd have played across the United States for clients such as Kelloggs, Toshiba, and the Orlando Christmas Parade.
In addition to Bob Hope, the evening will also feature the Swing Dolls accompanied by the Ensemble Swing Time Band. The Swing Dolls are a dynamic female vocal trio who entertain with show-stopping costumes and stylish choreography. Their song lists includes hits made famous by such greats as The Andrews Sisters and The McGuire Sisters. Theyll perform authentic renditions of classic hits like the Chattanooga Choo Choo, Sentimental Journey, Lullaby of Broadway, Armed Forces Medley, and many more.
Another act performing during this Variety Show is the Fettucini Brothers, a comedy juggling act voted Charlottes Best jugglers for several years in a row by Charlotte Magazine (North Carolina).
Although this is not a sanctioned USO show, it is patterned after the style of the USO shows that were founded in 1941 at the request of President Franklin D. Roosevelt to provide morale and recreation services to uniformed military personnel. As a result, USO centers and clubs opened worldwide for troops as a home away from home, offering a place to go for dances and social events, movies and music, or for a free cup of coffee. In addition, the USO also brought Hollywood celebrities and entertainers out in force to perform for the troops.
The Secret City Festival headline entertainment for the Saturday evening concert, sponsored by Wackenhut and NetGain, will be Survivor, known for their hit songs The Search is Over, Is This Love, and High on You.
Joye Montgomery, entertainment chair for the Secret City Festival, said, Were delighted to appeal to a new audience this year when we bring 80s rock band, Survivor, best known for its award-winning song Eye of the Tiger, to the Secret City Festival stage.
Survivor will perform on Saturday, June 20. The opening band, Jada Blade, will begin at 7 pm. Jada Blade will be performing favorite classic tunes from the 70s, big hair band days, and their original works that will compliment the music of Survivor.
Its a new year and another new Secret City Festival, said Gibson. We are looking forward to offering another exciting lineup of entertainment, wonderful activities suitable for the entire family, and a great opportunity to tell the unique story of the Secret City.
The Secret City Festival is presented by the City of Oak Ridge, the Oak Ridge Convention & Visitors Bureau, and the Arts Council of Oak Ridge. B&W Y-12 and the City of Oak Ridge have signed on as Festival Sponsors again this year.

Elizabeth City's Rose Buddies - May 2008 [CC]
From Me to You ... Video, Photography, & Book Reviews created this video during a time when Jess (the creator) worked for the Elizabeth City Area Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB).
Elizabeth City's Rose Buddies have been around since the 1980s, a tradition started by Fred Fearing and Joe Kramer. In recent years the Elizabeth City Area CVB took over hosting the parties and this video is of Dave Thomas (head Rose Buddy at the time who has now passed away) explaining about the ICW and what new boaters will expect. The Miracle of Hickory | Richard Eller | TEDxHickory
The local and national response to a polio outbreak during World War II brought uncommon results. Within 54 hours, the community converted a health camp to a functioning hospital, ready to treat children and adults throughout the region. The sometimes deadly disease of infantile paralysis caused many to avoid Hickory during this epidemic but for nine months the hometown folks braved the crisis and became a model for the rest of the nation, earning the title of The Miracle of Hickory.
As Catawba Valley Community College professor and CVCC Historian in Residence with the Historical Association of Catawba County, Richard Eller delves into the people and events of the past, seeking new insights to their relevance for our lives. Currently, he is spearheading a cross-disciplinary examination of the 1944 Polio Epidemic with a forthcoming book and documentary. His recent work includes Speedbird: The History of Piedmont Airlines, which aired on UNC-TV. Eller coauthored The American Road, an American history text. His next project is to bring the history of Catawba County to the stage (in abridged form).
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at

The Weeping Willow- Doyle Lawson, Major Contributor Award Leon Kiser Memorial Tribute Show
New show- check this out: Charlie Powers of Duty Free sings lead on this Carter family favorite Bury Me Beneath The Weeping Willow. Doyle Lawson sings harmony here since he was still somewhat hoarse from the February bug that seems to have affected so many folks, especially the local pickers. Doyle Lawson has been professionally engaged in bluegrass and gospel music for about 60 years since he was a teenager on the family farm near Sneedville, Tennessee. Note that young Presley Barker who is playing guitar in the backing band is about the same age (14) that Doyle Lawson was in 1958.
Doyle Lawson later made a humorous comment about the interior barn backdrop on the stage of the theater indicating that he started out on the farm and has now come full circle back to the farm (inside the barn). The backdrop set had been constructed just back of the main curtain for an upcoming spring play and the ACMA decided to adopt it in the Leon Kiser Tribute Show since it lent an Opry feel to the theater. This is the Northeast State TCC spring play:

The secretary and panelists discussed how VA is focused on becoming the leader in customer experience and improving services to our nation’s Veterans through various initiatives such as engagement with community partners, leaders, advocates, state/county VA departments, Department of Defense, Veteran Service Organizations, and community Veterans engagement boards.

Polls, Pundits and Predictions: Sizing Up the NH Presidential Primary Race
The 2020 Democratic Presidential field is narrowing with the NH Primary looming. Seasoned political analysts Ned Helms, Tom Rath and Andy Smith preview and predict the race.
Wednesday, January 22, 2020
5:00pm – 6:00pm
Room 003, Rockefeller Center
Sponsored by: Rockefeller Center
Panel Description:
In 2008, all NH Primary polls predicted that Barack Obama would easily defeat Hillary Clinton … but he didn’t! History has shown that primary polls are wrong as often as they are right. This panel explores why it is so difficult to poll in primaries and what observers should really pay attention to when assessing candidate strength. What makes primary elections different from general elections? Why is polling so difficult in primaries? Why is NH so important in determining who will win the nomination?
Panelist Bios:
