The Russian Embassy Berlin
The big, pompous building on the Southern side of Unter den Linden appears at first glance to be a princely palace of the late 19th century. But if you take a closer look, you will find that hammer and sickle are integrated into the building decoration; and around the corners of the tower looming high over the neighbouring roofs you will find sculptures which represent strong working class people.
Between 1949 and 1952, the Soviet Union was willing to spend money on a new embassy in East Berlin, which should not only underline its own position of power in the pretentious style of the Stalin era, but also support the recently founded East German state which was striving for international recognition.

Bush) On Friday July 4, 2008, the U.S. Embassy's traditional Independence Day reception for invited guests was combined with the official opening of the new Chancery on Pariser Platz, in which Chancellor Angela Merkel and former President George H. W. Bush delivered keynote speeches. Former President Bush joined Ambassador William R. Timken, Jr. and Sue Timken for a ceremonial Ribbon Cutting. The official program started with a joint presentation of the American and German flags by a bi-national honor military guard. Airlift pilots, including Candy Bomber Col. Gail Halvorsen, took part in this special presentation of the colors — an important element of every Embassy 4th of July program. The Konzerthausorchester Berlin, the U.S. Air Force Jazz Band and Stars in Concert provided musical entertainment during the evening's program. The highlight of the evening were Independence Day fireworks over the Brandenburg Gate.

STORYLINE
The US launched the construction of its new embassy in Berlin on Wednesday, restoring its presence at the historic site next to the Brandenburg Gate, after decades of Cold War division and years of delays to meet anti-terror standards.
US Ambassador Dan Coats was joined by German Interior Minister Otto Schily and Berlin Mayor Klaus Wowereit as he broke ground for the sleek new building in the capital's busy centre.
It is scheduled for completion in November 2007 - 15 years after Washington first announced plans for the new embassy.
US diplomats moved into the original building at the site in April 1939, but left when the United States declared war on the Third Reich in 1941.
Heavily damaged in World War II, the embassy was razed by East Germany in the fifties.
After the Berlin Wall was built in 1961, the site became part of the no man's land between East and West Berlin.
The US government announced plans to return to the site in 1992, but the building was redesigned to include new security features after the 1998
bombings of two US embassies in Africa.

U.S. Election 2012 School Project, U.S. Embassy Berlin
The U.S. Embassy in Berlin organized a school project about the U.S. Presidential Election 2012.
More than 1,700 students took part in this project, using an online learning platform, which provided them with multimedia materials
on the electoral college, the candidates, and the campaigns. The final chapter of the project was for each class to predict the election result of
one particular state, which was assigned to them in early September.
In the end, 74 out of 78 predictions by classes were correct. The overall prediction came very close to the actual result of the electoral college.
Many classes entered into a competition with very creative ideas to present their predictions including blogs, videos, animations, and self-composed songs.
The project was organized in co-operation with LISUM Berlin-Brandenburg, Life e.V. / explorarium, Leuphana University Lüneburg, Amerikazentrum Hamburg and the U.S. Consulates General in Germany.

STORYLINE
Hundreds of dignitaries attended a ceremony marking the opening of the new US Embassy in Berlin, which coincided with the July 4th celebrations commemorating Independence Day in the United States.
The grand opening included music from the US Air Force jazz band and video presentations at the site in front of the Brandenburg Gate - the symbol of Germany's postwar division and then of its unification.
The embassy completes the post-reunification rebuilding of the Pariser Platz, the square in front of the gate.
AP Television footage showed a spectacular fireworks display lighting up the night sky over Berlin's landmark Brandenburg Gate in the heart of the government district.
The event was attended by former US President George H.W. Bush and German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
Bush Sr. was president when the Berlin Wall fell in 1989 and supported German reunification less than a year later.
The ceremony recognised the official homecoming of the embassy to its pre-World War II address.
The embassy was to be relocated to its news address at Pariser Platz in April 1939.
However by the time US diplomats were set to move into the new building, Washington had already recalled its chief envoy in protest of the Nazi regime's anti-Semitic programme the previous year.
The remaining diplomats left in 1941 after Germany declared war on the United States.
The building was heavily damaged during World War II and later razed by communist East Germany.
For nearly three decades, the site stood in the heavily fortified no man's land behind the Berlin Wall.
First plans for the embassy were drawn up in 1996 - three years before the German government moved to Berlin from Bonn.
The new building took nearly four years to build and cost some 143 (m) million US dollars.

It’s Berlin Fashion Week and Ambassador and Kimberley Emerson hosted a “Sustainability & Style” reception here at the Embassy. The “VOGUE-Salon” program which supports emerging young designers brought four exceptional German designers (Karen Jessen, Kathleen König, Nobieh Talaei, and Vladimir Karaleev) who presented designs they created exclusively for this event. The recycled denim for their designs was provided by Calvin Klein Jeans, G-STAR RAW, Levi’s and Tommy Hilfiger. This cooperation between globally operating well-known American brands and up-and-coming young German designers promotes cultural exchange between the United States and Germany, and highlighted the themes #upcycling and #sustainability in the fashion industry. We thank VOGUE Germany and the Fashion Council Germany for the fantastic cooperation!
United Stasi of America Lightart Protest Projection U.S. embassy in Berlin
(Reuters) - A German artist who beamed the words United Stasi of America onto the wall of the U.S. embassy in Berlin says Washington's spy methods make the former East German secret police look like boy scouts.
A video of Oliver Bienkowski's artwork is fast becoming a hit on the Internet in Germany, tapping into widespread outrage over U.S. surveillance programs revealed by fugitive ex-National Security Agency (NSA) contractor Edward Snowden.
Government eavesdropping is a highly sensitive topic in Germany, evoking memories of the Nazi Gestapo and the Stasi security police, which used a vast network of informants to crush dissidents in communist East Germany.
Chancellor Angela Merkel has sought explanations from the United States. With an election looming in September, her opponents have tried to turn the matter into a campaign issue, with some demanding a halt to EU-U.S. trade talks unless Washington allays German concerns.
The Stasi would have dreamt of being able to do what the Americans are doing, said Bienkowski, 31. The Stasi look like a bunch of boy scouts compared to what the NSA is doing. It's the real deal in terms of a secret service with modern technology at their disposal. It's far more dangerous.
A spokesman for the U.S. embassy, in the heart of Berlin near the Brandenburg Gate, said the artist's stunt was funny, but anyone who makes this comparison knows neither the Stasi nor the United States.
Respected German news magazine Der Spiegel reported late last month, citing an internal NSA document, that the United States taps half a billion phone calls, emails and text messages in Germany in a typical month and has classed its biggest European ally as a target similar to China.
German government spokesman Steffen Seibert said on Monday that talks between European Union and U.S. experts to clarify the NSA's activities were starting this week in parallel to the transatlantic free trade talks.
Bienkowski's slogan, beamed onto the south wall of the U.S. embassy with a powerful projector late on Sunday night, was briefly visible throughout the neighborhood. He said police stopped him after a few minutes, telling him he needed a permit for the artwork.
A video of the incident has gathered more than 42,000 hits on YouTube, and the artist made the front page of Bild, Germany's best-selling daily with more than 12 million readers.

Scores of refugees, mainly from Nigeria and Libya, protested for their right to march to the US embassy and demand asylum in Berlin, Tuesday. The demonstration started in Berlin’s Kreuzberg neighborhood with the protesters demanding permission from police to march through the German capital and reach their target.
After being granted permission to march, protesters arrived to a street near the US embassy, with many vowing to sleep in the streets until they have the chance to speak with an official. Police road blocks stopped the protesters from getting closer to the embassy.
The asylum seekers originate mainly from Nigeria and Libya, among other African countries, and were protesting against racism and lack of support by the German government. One man said that they had a good life in Libya but Europe destroyed Libya. Some say they have been living in the country as refugees for over two years with no job or social security.
