Empress market a beautiful stone structure in Saddar, Karachi. It was named in commemoration of the Jubilee of queen of England, who at the time of construction was also Empress of India. Foundation stone was laid on November 10, 1884 by Sir James Ferguson, governor of Bombay. It was designed by James Strachan. Constructed between 1884-89 (Cost Rs 1,20,000) Empress market was inaugurated on March 21, 1889.
