Theft At Swain Board Of Elections
BRYSON CITY, N.C. -- The Swain County Board of Elections office in Bryson City is beefing up security after a break-in early Wednesday morning.
Director Joan Weeks says a man broke through back windows about 3 a.m. to gain entry and to steal cash. Workers were on the scene Thursday increasing security and repairing damage. Weeks says no personal information was stolen.
State has gone in to an audit to make sure there was no entry into the systems to be able to retrieve data. There were no laptops taken, she says.
Two windows are now completely sealed. Additional security will include more cameras. The theft remains under investigation by the Swain County Sheriff's Office.
