Procession of the Nobles
Waycross Symphonic and Concert Band members made the annual trip each year to Epworth by the Sea on St. Simons Island, Georgia for the GMEA 8th District Band Clinic. 1989 marked the clinic's first year being named the 'Robert M. Barr Epworth Band Clinic'. The clinic brought together talented musicians from across Southeast Georgia for a weekend of hard work culminating in a polished performance on Saturday night. When Waycross band members weren't pulling pranks on their cross-town rivals from Ware County High School, they were busy working on Rimsky-Korsakov's 'Procession of the Nobles'.

STORYLINE
Coastal towns and islands off the US state of Georgia have been transformed into virtual police states in the run up to this week's G-8 Summit.
In Saint Simons Island, near Sea Island where leaders of the Group of Eight countries will begin meeting on Tuesday, the usually crowded beaches are desolate.
The only group with attendance in record numbers is the police and military charged with keeping the area safe.
Those who decided to come to the beach despite the summit see helicopters hovering overhead and checkpoints on the roads.
About 130 kilometres (80 miles) to the north, in Savannah, security is omnipresent around the city's convention centre, presently serving as a media hub for the thousands of journalists who have flocked to Georgia to cover the summit.
Gun boats cruise the coastline, military helicopters comb the sky and thousands of police and National Guard troops patrol roadways and bridges.
Between 10 thousand and 20 thousand federal, state and local officers are now on duty in Sea Island, Saint Simons Island, nearby Brunswick and in Savannah.
Their main goals are to prevent terrorism and safeguard against violent protests as US President George W. Bush meets with other world leaders to discuss Iraq, the Middle East and other major world issues.
Some business owners have boarded up their shops for fear of rioting G-8 protesters.

Hildebrandt Legend - William Owens
Hey YouTube!
This won't be an interest for many people, but this is the Georgia District Eight High School Honor Band playing the William Owens tune Hildebrandt Legend.
This audio was recorded professionally (With one microphone, though) at Epworth by the Sea on St. Simons Island.
The band you hear is the B band. This band is made up of mostly 9th and 10th graders. The other band that plays at our district band is the A band. The only difference between the two, however, is that B band plays easier music than A band.
This was my first year participating in an honor band (I played 3rd chair tuba in this recording).
The band was made up of students from Ware County High School, Pierce County High School, Valdosta High School, and Brunswick High School (Among others).
The clinician for the band was Mr. Vincent Rosse of Stone Mountain Middle School. With his direction, we turned some wonderful middle school band pieces into some wonderfully-sounding and mature tunes.
