MV E Evangelia is a shipwrecked 7,355-gross register ton refrigerated cargo ship at Costinești on the Black Sea coast of Romania. It was built in Northern Ireland in 1942 and it was operated by Blue Star Line from 1942 to 1961. Then, it was bought by Greek shipowners in 1965 and wrecked in 1968. The ship had several names in its career: Empire Strength in 1942, renamed Saxon Star in 1946, Redbrook in 1961 and E Evangelia in 1965.
On 15 October 1968 E Evangelia was sailing in ballast from Rijeka in Yugoslavia to Constanța in Romania when it ran aground in the Black Sea off Costinești about 16 nautical miles (30 km) south of Constanța. It was declared a total loss, and there is a suggestion that the shipwreck could have been an insurance fraud.
The ship remains a wreck at Costinești. It is almost broken (this film was made in august 2017) and two large areas of plates are missing from its starboard side. Costinești is a small seaside resort in Romania, for which the wreck is a local attraction.

MV E Evangelia is a big shipwrecked cargo ship at Costinești on the Black Sea coast of Romania. She was built in Northern Ireland in 1942 as the Empire ship - Empire Strength, was operated by Blue Star Line from 1942 to 1961, was bought by Greek shipowners in 1965 and wrecked in 1968.

Tour of E Evangelia wreck 4K
Evangelia has been a business ship, constructed by the same shipyard which built the Titanic, Harland & Wolff in Belfast, Ireland, and launched on 28th of May, 1942 with the name of “Empire Strength”.
Later it has been known as “Saxon Star”, “Redbrook” and eventualy “Evangelia”, its last proprietor being the Greek corporation Hanton Embinas Andros.
Within the night of 15th of October, 1968, on a dense haze, the ship sailed very close to the seacoast and beached between two immersed rocks at approximately 200 m from shore in the vicinity of the village Costinesti, in the place where it lies right now.
Within the next decades, Evangelia has fascinated more and more travelers causing the development of the community tourism and so becoming the emblem of Costinesti.
Though it is in a sharp state of decomposition, Evanghelia obstinate to remain upright, almost in the exact same condition in which it wrecked.
If you pay a visit to Costinesti, rent a motorboat to take a tour of the wreck at sunset, it is really impressive.

Nava Evangelia de 7.355 tdw, motor de 2.650 CP, pavilion Grecia, a fost construită la șantierele navale Harland and Wolffdin Belfast, Irlanda de Nord și lansată la apă pe 28 mai 1942. Primul proprietar a fost Blue Star Line.
Cunoscută mai mult ca “epava de la Costinești”, nava Evangelia a aparținut flotei celebrului armator grec Aristotel Socrates Onassis. Chiar în anul în care Onassis a cerut-o în căsătorie pe frumoasa Jacqueline Kennedy soția fostului președinte american John F. Kennedy, un ofițer de marină român i-a stricat grecului socotelile. Trebuia să fie o afacere pe cinste dar s-a dovedit un eșec neașteptat. În loc să se scufunde, Evangelia a fost salvată în ultimul moment de Mircea Ionescu, comandantul Grupului de Intervenții si Salvare Navală al portului Constanța.

She was a motor ship, with a six-cylinder four-stroke single-acting marine Diesel engine developing 490 NHP. The engine was built by Harland and Wolff but was a Burmeister & Wain design from Denmark. Her navigation equipment included wireless direction finding and an echo sounding device.
