Sightseeing with Beijing's Free Walking Tour
To join Leo on his FREE walking tours of Beijing, sign up here:
When I first moved to Beijing two and a half years ago, I was keen to explore the city. I had done free walking tours all over Europe and loved them so wondered if there were any in China. I stumbled across Leo’s Beijing Walking Tours (the First and only Free Walking Tour in the city) and decided to check it out. There was nobody else on the tour so I had my very own private tour guide. It was a really enjoyable tour and I learnt a lot about the city as well as got to explore the Hutongs, which gave me a taste of what the city was like many years ago. Two and a half years later, I decided to go on the same tour again. It was great to see Leo and how he made certain adjustments to make the experience even better. Here’s a glimpse into what we saw.
0:50 The Walking Tour begins
1:43 The cute dogs of Beijing’s Hutongs
2:38 The Hutongs of Beijing
3:26 Going inside a Siheyuan (Hutong residence)
4:04 Meeting the Cricket superstar of Beijing
4:43 The cute small cars of Beijing
5:13 Houhai and watching the sunset over the Houhai Lake in the Xicheng District Beijing
6:43 Jingshan Park Beijing overlooking the Forbidden City

10 Best Places to Visit in China - Travel Video
China, the gateway to East Asia, is a fascinating country. It is an ancient civilization that gave the world Peking Man, gunpowder and noodles. Visitors making their first trip to China usually stick to the larger cities. More experienced visitors to the Middle Kingdom will strike out in other directions, where traveling may be a bit more frustrating because of the language barrier, but most definitely doable for independent travelers. Here’s a look at the best places to visit in China:
My 10 Day Trip to China
Yes I know this is a very long video but I wanted to include everything into one without splitting it into parts (I'm very lazy you see).
My trip to China was with a tour group with Gate 1; last time was when I went to Peru. I met great people in the tour and amazing tour guides who knew what they were doing.
The following days went like this:
Day 1 and 2: For me was just traveling from New York to China.
Day 3: We visited the Great Wall of China and going to the Bejing Zoo to see the pandas
Day 4: We went to the Forbidden City and the Summer Palace
Day 5: We flew to Xian and went to the optional Tang Dynasty Dinner & Show (it was one of my favorite parts of the trip)
Day 6: We went to go to see the Terracotta Warriors after making a stop at a Terracotta Warriors factory/shop and a lacquer furniture shop and had an optional dumpling dinner
Day 7: We flew to Shanghai and went to the Shanghai by night with dinner which is basically where we eat dinner then go on a cruise ship to see Shanghai
Day 8: Shanghai city tour
Day 9: We took the optional tour to Suzhou where we went on a boat ride along the Grand Canal (our boat driver was a very good singer)
Day 10: Depart China
Technically it was more than 10 days but that was because our flight was delayed and we missed our connecting flight. That wasn't Gate 1's fault though more like the airline we went on.
But all in all, my mom and I made it back to New York safe and in one piece.
