Moscow vdnh | Kansantalouden saavutusten näyttelyalue, Moskova
Kansantalouden saavustusten näyttely oli kuulemma neukkuaikana pakollinen käyntikohde johon kaiki ryhmät vietiin. Nykyisin alue on jonkinlainen näyttely/markkina/virkistysalue.
VDNH sijaitsee Kosomonautti-muistomerkin vieressä. Lisäksi vieressä on Hotelli Kosmos joka rakennettiin Izmailovkij Park-hotellin tavoin vuoden 1980 Olympiakisoja varten. Izmailovskij Park on ymmärtääkseni nykyisin näistä parempi hotelli.
Alue näytti valtavalta. Katselin vain pikaisesti - koska minulla li vain rajallisesti aikaa Moskovassa.
Metro VDNH.
--------
VDNH was a must! sight under the Soviet Era. All western groups were taken here to see the advances of Soviet Union. Nowadays it is somekind market/exhibition/recreation area. Loundspeakers playd western music which I found a bit comic. The area would have been huge - I just show a bit of it due to my limited time in Moscow.
Underground VDNH.
Omsk. The third capital. 300-year anniversary. / Омск. Третья столица. 300-летний юбилей.
Omsk is one of the largest cities of Russia, the administrative center of Omsk oblast, located at the confluence of the Irtysh and the Om rivers, in southwestern Siberia, 2,236 kilometers (1,389 mi) from Moscow. Omsk is multi-million-strong city (1 079 178 people in 2016), the second largest population in Siberia and eighth in Russia. A major transport hub: from West to East passes through the city railway TRANS-Siberian railway, with its construction, Omsk became known as the Gate of Siberia. The navigable Irtysh River runs from South to North, is the longest tributary in the world (a tributary of the Ob River).
The territory of Omsk were of great importance since ancient times. Here were settlements and burial grounds of many developed Nations that lived from the VI Millennium BC to the XIII century. In XVII century the need for the Russian city at the mouth of the Om was so great, that many people repeatedly asked the Tsar Peter I about its Foundation. Omsk was founded by I. D. Buchholz in 1716 as a fortress defending the southern border of the state. Omsk was the only city along with St. Petersburg and Moscow in Russia, to whom was granted the right to raise the state flag of the Russian Empire in Siberia and Asia. In the 19th century in Omsk exiled revolutionaries (the Decembrists) were serving sentences, including the famous Russian writer F.M. Dostoevsky. Omsk State University and a library was named in honour of Dostoevsky. The main development of the town received in the XX century. After the 1917 revolution, during the civil war and the confrontation between the White and Red movements, Omsk was the official capital of the Russian Empire (White Russia) under the leadership of Admiral Kolchak (1918 - 1920). The city has expanded considerably in the years of the Great Patriotic War (WW2) when many factories was evacuated from the European part of Russia, until the collapse of the Soviet Union was known as the Garden City, City of Youth, City of Sciences. Omsk awarded the honorary title of City of labor glory, is a major industrial center with enterprises of different industries, including Petro-chemical, defense and aerospace. Planet Omsk is in international catalog of minor planets.

Cathedral of the Assumption is the hallmark of the city of Omsk. In 2016 Omsk celebrated its tercentenary.
Moscow dons festive spirits with Gorky Park's legendary ice rink

Gorky Park's legendary ice rink, this year known as the Factory of Happy People, officially opened in Moscow on Thursday.
With a maximum capacity of 6,000 people and sprawling over 18,000 square metres (193,750 square feet), the ice rink boasts concerts, ice discos and light shows, while the industrial refrigeration system means that Muscovites don't have to worry about the ice melting until the end of March.
This year the rink has adopted an industrial style with a smoking chimney at the entrance, pavilions made up to look like factory workshops and a neon conveyor belt.

Vladivostok - Moscow (May 17 - June 2, 2016)
Vladivostok to Moscow. --- Trans-Siberian Railway Trip, May 17 to June 2, 2016
Our journey started from Vladivostok. Yul Brynner who stared in The King and I was born here; His statue is in front of the house he was born.
The second stop was Irkutsk. The city's old quarter reminded me the scenes from the movie Doctor Zhivago with it's traditional wooden houses and the old trams. As an admirer of the Decembrists and their women, we visited Volkonsky and Trubestskoy's houses. One could tell the owners lived rather extravagant life during their time in the houses. White Army Admiral Alexander Kolchak's statue stands in front of Znamensky Monastery, at the spot he was executed. The monastery also has tomb of Grigory Shelekhov, who claimed Alaska for Russia, and that of the Decembrist wife Ekaterina Trubetskaya.
From Irkutsk, we reached to Lake Baikal via Listvyanka; The amazing beauty of this Lake has to be seen to believe!
Moving on from Irkutsk, the train stopped at Novosibirsk for about 50 minutes, just enough time to taxi to the city center to see the dramatic Lenin statue with flowing cloak.
The industrial city Yekaterinburg is famous for the Cathedral on the Blood, which was built at the location the last Tsar and his family were murdered. We took a local train and then walked for about 40 minutes, along a beautiful, primeval forest, to get to Ganina Yama, visiting the site the bodies of the Romanov family were secretly disposed of originally.
Next, we stopped at Kazan. Ivan the Terrible conquered the Tatars' capital in 1552. Russia's icon, the St. Basil's Cathedral of Moscow was built to commemorate the capture of Kazan. Like Yekaterinburg, Kazan is a financially well to do city compared with other places we visited along the route.
Another over night train took us to Nizhny Novgorod, which was the first of the six golden ring cities we visited during the trip: Nizhny Novgorod, Vladmir, Suzdal, Rostov-Velikiy, Sergiev Posad and Yaroslavl. Rostov-Velikiy is my favorite. It has an unparalleled view of the Kremlin from lake Nero. We also witnessed a Sunday church parade and a Mass in Rostov. Suzdal stands out as an unspoiled village town. Nizhny and Yaroslavl are actually very large cities, their top attractions are the peaceful and scenic river sides. Vladmire and Sergiev Posad both have some most photogenic scenes.
We saved Moscow for the last. Indeed, Moscow proves to be worthy of the capital of Russia! There are simply too many fascinating things to see! The metro is handy, on top of the fact itself is a bona-fide museum.
We visited many Orthodox churches during the trip. Many have magnificent interior. The choral music were serene, peaceful and simply amazing!
The monuments in the country are many. Don't miss Victory park, and all-Russia exhibition center, both of Moscow. The monuments in these two locations are just awe inspiring!
We took the west bound trains for the journey. The east bound direction is more popular with leisure travelers. We had to change trains in each location mentioned above except Novosibirsk. Long distance tickets were either purchased ahead of time ( or at the time of travel in the station. Mid to late May is the shoulder season, it's relatively easy to get train tickets. Local train tickets were easily bought on site.
Train station in big cities usually has resting room with single/double/dorm types and clean linen, charged by the hour. We stayed in such a resting room in Irkutsk as we got there in the early morning. The room was clean, quite and rather spacious.
In May of 2009, I visited Saint Petersburg. Please see the video for the visit:

Moscow Kursky railway station | Outdoor Subway | Atrium | Time Lapsed Guide | #EJRussia 45
Kursky railway terminal (Russian: Ку́рский вокза́л, Kursky vokzal), also known as Moscow Kurskaya railway station (Russian: Москва́-Ку́рская, Moskva-Kurskaya), is one of the nine railway terminals in Moscow. It was built in 1896. There are currently plans to completely rebuild or refurbish the station.
Kursky station, unlike most Moscow terminals, operates two almost opposite railroad directions from Moscow: one toward Kursk, Russia, after which the station is named, that stretches on into Ukraine, and another toward Nizhniy Novgorod, which is less used by long-distance trains, mostly for the high-speed service to Nizhniy.
Kursky is connected to the Lengradskiy Line from the other side, enabling long-distance trains from St. Petersburg to other cities to pass through Russia's capital. Because of its three directions, its adjacency to the city center, and its connection to three major metro lines, Kursky is one of Moscow's busiest railway stations.

Today is the second last day of my Russian trip. I stayed with Roman and his friend Sasha. Both are seasoned hitchhikers and Couchsurfers. After editing a video in the first half of the day, I went with Roman to have a glimpse of Novosibirsk. With a population of around 1.5 million people, It is said to be the third largest city of Russia.
In this video, Roman takes me to some random places in Novosibirsk. You can see how is a usual day in this city. We take a minibus, which is called ‘Marshrutka’ in Russia, to reach the city center. Then we visit a library. After that, he goes to attend a meeting, and I explore the city on foot. I reached a museum of Nicholas Roerich, the great traveller, philosopher and a painter who spent a significant part of his life in Naggar, Himachal Pradesh.
There is something about Sberbank of Russia, Churches, Christianity, Differently abled people, Metro, Trams and other city transportation in this video.

Veliky Novgorod Russia's origins HD
Veliky Novgorod Russia's origins HD
Almost half a way on the road from modern Russian capital (Moscow) to former one (St. Petersburg) there is the ancient city of Novgorod Velikiy (the Great). By now it is a conglomerate of historical, cultural and spiritual monuments worth seeing.
Velikiy Novgorod - one of the most ancient cities of Russia located in its North-West, near the site where the Volkhov river takes its waters from Lake Ilmen, emerged as a political center of Slavic and Fino-Ugric tribes in the mid-9th century, while as a town it was formed in the middle of the 10th century.
The history of Novgorod is closely linked with all major stages in the life of the Russian state. In those times, when the statehood of Rus was just in the making, the Novgorodians invited Scandinavian prince Rurik to keep law and order, thus giving birth to the prince Rurik dynasty that ruled over all Russian lands throughout more than 750 years

RUSSIA: UK IS PROVIDING LOAN FOR MOSCOW-ST PETERSBURG RAILWAY
Russian/Eng/Nat
British Prime Minister Tony Blair - on his first official visit to Russia - has highlighted the importance of economic ties between the two countries, a subject President Yeltsin is also keen to promote.
And in a sign of Russia's increasing acceptance internationally, Russian officials and the so-called London Club of commercial banks have signed a long-awaited multi-billion dollar agreement to restructure the country's debt.
The deal is seen as vital for Russia to remain attractive to foreign investors such as the U-K, whose biggest ever investment there -- a high-speed railway link between Moscow and St. Petersburg - begins construction this month.
But critics of the project are concerned about the destruction of scenery and historic buildings.
Moscow's Leningrad station - where city-dwellers from Russia's two largest urban centres meet.
Although the two cities are only 650 kilometres (406 miles) apart -- the journey by train still takes more than eight hours.
Russia's tracks are old, as are the trains on the country's vast railway network.
It can take up to two weeks to travel by rail from the Western end of Russia to the East.
Tsar Nicolas ordered the original tracks to be built in the 1830s -- linking Moscow to what was then the capital city of St. Petersburg.
The Tsar sent a delegation to Britain to learn the latest rail construction techniques to create the state of the art line.
Later during the revolution, it was on the Tsar's Moscow-St. Petersburg line that Lenin and the Bolsheviks steamed into Moscow after storming the royal palace.
The Soviets then expanded the network to the far reaches of the communist empire and train travel became the most common form of transport.
Now, again with British help, rail travel is undergoing a renaissance in Russia.
This month, construction begins on a part British funded high-speed bullet train that will make tedious long journeys a thing of the past.
SOUNDBITE: (Russian)
This is a train of Twenty First century. Almost everything in it is new - new chassis, a new level of comfort for the passengers, even the toilet construction is completely new in this train.
SUPER CAPTION: Igor Kisolyev, Director of Foreign Relations for High-speed Railway
The supertrain will travel at 290 kilometres per hour (180 miles per hour) reducing what was once a journey of nearly nine hours to under three hours.
Most of the 300 (m) million dollars required to rebuild St. Petersburg's Moscow train station will be provided by the U-K in the form of a government loan.
But not everyone is thrilled with the ambitious project.
With construction due to begin this month, scores of apartment buildings and historic landmarks have been torn down to make way.
All this, and some say the railway may never even be built. Full costs for the line are estimated at nearly five (b) billion dollars - a massive sum for a nation still in the economic doldrums.
That money could go to waste if, as critics claim, the construction is illegal.
SOUNDBITE: (Russian)
It is strictly forbidden to build in the places that they have chosen without special permission. Despite the illegality of the project many houses in the area have been levelled and the money has started to arrive from Great Britain. To put it simply, the British taxpayers' money has been given to finance an illegal project.
SUPER CAPTION: Alexei Kovalyov, Deputy of Legal Association of St. Petersburg
Experts estimate it will take 44 months to finish the project.
Hundreds of miles of scenic countryside will have to be ploughed up and scores of old buildings flattened.
It's a frightening prospect for the city authority.

В.Путин.Заседании Президиума.09.06.08
Prime Minister Vladimir Putin held a meeting of the Government Presidium
9 June 2008
Выступление В.Путина на заседании Президиума Правительства Российской Федерации
09.06.2008
Vladimir Putin: Good afternoon,
Let us begin with current issues. Ms Nabiullina, how did the Economic Forum go, what are the results?
Elvira Nabiullina: The 12th St Petersburg International Economic Forum ended yesterday. It had a highly representative audience. Taking part in the work of the Forum were about 2,500 participants. Among them were the leaders of major Russian, international and foreign companies, the heads of state and government, government ministers and top experts. Many meetings, conferences and roundtables were held. There was a lively discussion both of global and world development and the development of Russia. Many proposals have been made.
Investment exhibitions were organised on the margin of the Forum. They included a large exhibition of Russian developments in the field of nanotechnology. It also attracted interest. Timed for the Forum was the signing of investment agreements to the total sum of more than $14 billion. Presentations were held; one of the highlight presentations was that of the St Petersburg Mercantile and Commodity Exchange.
Victor Zubkov: Mr Putin, your instructions have been fulfilled.
Elvira Nabiullina: The winner of the first concession tender for the building of the Western High-Speed Diameter has been named. On Friday the Duma passed amendments to the third reading of the Law on Concession Agreements which improves the whole mechanism, so we hope that concession agreements will multiply.
As part of the Forum we also held a meeting of the Board of Directors of the Russian Venture Company and named the winners of the second contest of company managers. We selected five winners out of 18 candidates. New managing companies which will finance venture projects are to be formed shortly. On the whole, the Forum passed normally.
Vladimir Putin: Very well. I would like to thank all the colleagues in the Government who prepared the event and attended it. Especially at the final stage when such significant results were achieved. Thank you very much.
Mr Ivanov, I know that you are going to the Crimea. Tell us about it. What activities are being planned?
Sergei Ivanov: On Saturday, June 14, on behalf of the Government, I am going to visit Sebastopol to attend the celebrations of the 225th anniversary of the city. We have already marked the anniversary of the Black Sea Fleet. Now it will be the Day of the City. During my stay in Sebastopol I plan to meet with the representatives of the City Council, with the City Administration and with veterans and members of the public. Of course, Sebastopol is closely tied to our history. I think the presence of members of the Russian Government is important.
And I would like to add, Mr Putin, tomorrow will see the inauguration of express train service between the Savyolovsky Train Station and Sheremetyevo Airport. A brand-new 8-km stretch of bi-level electrified railway has been built and, even more important, there is a new rail terminal in Sheremetyevo.
That branch will have 21 pairs of trains every 24 hours, running at roughly 30-minute intervals. The journey from the center of Moscow to Sheremetyevo-2 will take 35 minutes. I think that is a great improvement considering the traffic jams on the Leningrad highway we are familiar with. It will be much more convenient for passengers, and the journey to the air terminal will be more comfortable.
The trains will offer wireless Internet access and other modern facilities. Economy-class tickets will cost 200 roubles. I think that is a very competitive price compared with what it costs for passengers to reach Sheremetyevo today. Now, all the three major Moscow airports will have express train service to the center of Moscow, because express trains are already running to Domodedovo and Vnukovo.
The Transportation Ministry, RZhD, the governments of Moscow and the Moscow Region took an active part in the project, for the first time they all worked together to build this transport hub. The next important stage will be the opening of the high-speed train service between the Belarusian Train Station and Sheremetyevo, and then we will start the project of express train service on the Moscow Ring Railway thus linking all the three Moscow airports - Domodedovo, Vnukovo and Sheremetyevo - by high speed train service. Passengers will be able to travel by rail between airports without changing transport mode. This is the ultimate goal of the modernisation of the transportation infrastructure of the Moscow hub.
Riding the Monorail
A ride on the monorail offers passengers a nice view of such Moscow landmarks as the Worker and Collective Farm Girl statue and the All-Russian Exhibition Center (formerly known as VDNKh).
IMPLEMENTATION OF NURLY ZHOL PROGRAM
One of the priorities of Nurly Zhol state program is the construction of new and reconstruction of existing highways in Kazakhstan. The program’s implementation will let Kazakhstan enter the list of top 30 developed countries. Center-South section will be connected with Temirtau-Karaganda highway.
IGOR GAFTON, DEPUTY DIRECTOR, REGIONAL BRANCH, KAZAVTOZHOL NATIONAL ROAD MANAGEMENT COMPANY:
- This year, we are planning to open both sides of the highway to the traffic. Next year, we will fully complete the construction, and install the illumination and road signs.
Reconstruction is complete for ‘Center-South’ direction, that is, Astana-Temirtau and Almaty-Kapshagai section. Kokshetau-Petropavlovsk and Astana-Kostanay highways are repaired. ‘Western Europe-Western China’ international transit corridor is fully complete. Nurly Zhol is not only roads, but also railway and sea, airports, water supply, and utilities. The state invested about 480 billion tenge in these projects. Both budget and investment funds were involved.
ROMAN SKLYAR, FIRST VICE MINISTER OF INVESTMENTS AND DEVELOPMENT OF KAZAKHSTAN:
- We have also started reconstruction of 228 kilometer long Kurty-Burylbaital road section that will be financed by the World Bank and the European Bank. Budget financed reconstruction of the north-east road near Karaganda will be launched this year. The World Bank will finance the reconstruction of the 297 kilometers long Balkhash-Buralbaital and 65 kilometers long Kurty-Kapshagai highways.
Officials believe that the funds spent on road construction will pay off. For instance, Astana-Burabai toll road brings up to 1.5 billion of revenue per year. 6.5 more kilometers of highways will become toll roads. Toll road gates are being installed on Astana-Temirtau, Almaty-Kapshagai and Almaty-Khorgos highways.
