Mayor Peter Gitz and Herbert Jahncke tell of the many contributions made to New Orleans and Madisonville by the Jahncke family over the past 100 years, from dredging to shipbuilding, employing 100's of area people. In the early 1990s, Jahncke and his family donated two restored Civil War cannons to the Madisonville, LA city hall, with Civil War re-enactors helping to explain how the cannons were fired.
