Falkenstein Castle (Burg Falkenstein), also called New Falkenstein (Neu-Falkenstein), is a ruined hill castle at 450 m above sea level in the eponymous climatic spa of Falkenstein, a quarter of Königstein im Taunus in the county of Hochtaunuskreis in the German state of Hesse.

We loved the brief tour, and to be allowed to film, but this is a private residence and we were not allowed to use most of our footage. BELIEVE US, WE TRIED!!!
We were able to brink a Traxxas along, but there wasn't as much terrain for bashing as we had hoped!!

A quick walk through the ruins of Castle Falkenstein. The closer up you park the more money it costs. It takes quite some time to walk the road up from the bottom most parking.

Presumably the castle was built in the first half of the 12th century by the noble lords of Falkenstein and later extended by the Counts of Manderscheid. The main castle and the castle chapel date from the 12th to the 14th century. In 1679 the castle was destroyed, later rebuilt.
Falkenstein Castle, at the end of the 18th century, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg who heard of the death of his last inhabitant Anna-Maria de la Gardelle of Falkenstein, daughter of Adam Heinrich de la Gardelle of Falkenstein, in the hands of the French-Luxembourg family de la Gardelle from Falkenstein. The castle went to Prussia in 1815, in 1886 the castle was sold to a private citizen and the house was extended. Today, the ruin with house and chapel is still privately owned and inhabited.

Originally known as Castrum Pfronten, the stone castle was built approximately 1270--1280 by Count Meinhard II von Tirol on the borders of his land (Tyrol). Because of the unusual situation of the castle it has been interpreted in historical context as a symbol of opposition to the Duchy of Bavaria. (During the winter the castle was dangerous to inhabit because of the high altitude at which it is located.) The name Castle Falkenstein only came into use in the 15th century. The castle was largely destroyed in the 17th century.
The name and background of the castle have inspired Castle Falkenstein (abbreviated CF), a steampunk-themed fantasy role-playing game (RPG) designed by Mike Pondsmith and originally published by R. Talsorian Games.
