Driving Downtown - New Orleans' Bourbon Street 4K - USA
Driving Downtown Streets - Bourbon Street - New Orleans Louisiana USA - Episode 39.
Starting Point: Bourbon Street - . Route: .
Bourbon Street (French: Rue Bourbon) is a street in the heart of New Orleans' oldest neighborhood, the French Quarter, in New Orleans, Louisiana. It extends 13 blocks from Canal Street to Esplanade Avenue.[1] Known for its bars and strip clubs, Bourbon Street's history provides a rich insight into New Orleans' past.
Entertainment, Bars, and Restaurants
Largely quiet during the day, Bourbon Street comes alive at night, particularly during the French Quarter's many festivals. Most famous of these is the annual Mardi Gras celebration, when the streets teem with thousands of people. Local open container laws allow drinking alcoholic beverages on the Quarter's streets. Popular drinks include the hurricane cocktail, the resurrection cocktail, the hand grenade and the profanely named huge-ass beers – a large plastic cup of draft beer marketed to tourists at a low price.
The most heavily-visited section of Bourbon Street is upper Bourbon Street toward Canal Street, an eight-block section of visitor attractions.[14] Among the attractions are bars, restaurants, souvenir shops and strip clubs. There are also a number of gay bars. The strip clubs include Rick's Cabaret, Temptations and Larry Flynt's Barely Legal Club.
Most of the bars are located in the central section of Bourbon. Popular spots include Pat O'Brien's, Johnny White's, the Famous Door, Spirits on Bourbon, Channing Tatum's Saints and Sinners, Razzoo and The Cat's Meow.[15] Marie Laveau's House of Voodoo is located on the corner of St. Ann Street.
The most renowned restaurant on Bourbon Street is Galatoire's; it represents traditional New Orleans dining and has a dress code. Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop and the Old Absinthe House are two of the many casual eateries.[1]
Lower Bourbon Street (lower being a reference to downriver, or downstream Mississippi River), from the intersection of St. Ann Street, caters to New Orleans' thriving gay community, featuring such establishments as Oz and the city's largest gay nightclub, the Bourbon Pub. St. Ann Street has been referred to as the Velvet Line[16] or the Lavender Line, the edge or approximate boundary of the French Quarter's gay community. Cafe-Lafitte-in-Exile is the oldest gay bar in the nation. The intersection of Bourbon and St. Ann Streets is also the center of the Labor Day weekend event Southern Decadence, commonly referred to as the Gay Mardi Gras, which attracts upwards of 100,000 participants.
The holiday of Mardi Gras is celebrated in New Orleans, Louisiana, although celebrations are concentrated for about two weeks before and through Shrove Tuesday, the day before Ash Wednesday. Usually there is one major parade each day (weather permitting); many days have several large parades. The largest and most elaborate parades take place the last five days of the Mardi Gras season. In the final week, many events occur throughout New Orleans and surrounding communities, including parades and balls (some of them masquerade balls).
New Orleans is a major United States port and the largest city and metropolitan area in the state of Louisiana. The population of the city was 343,829 as of the 2010 U.S. Census.[4][5] The New Orleans metropolitan area (New Orleans–Metairie–Kenner Metropolitan Statistical Area) had a population of 1,167,764 in 2010 and was the 46th largest in the United States.[6] The New Orleans–Metairie–Bogalusa Combined Statistical Area, a larger trading area, had a 2010 population of 1,452,502.[7]
The city is named after the Duke of Orleans, who reigned as Regent for Louis XV from 1715 to 1723, as it was established by French colonists and strongly influenced by their European culture. It is well known for its distinct French and Spanish Creole architecture, as well as its cross-cultural and multilingual heritage.[8] New Orleans is also famous for its cuisine, music (particularly as the birthplace of jazz),[9][10] and its annual celebrations and festivals, most notably Mardi Gras, dating to French colonial times. The city is often referred to as the most unique[11] in the United States.

Hurricane Katrina Historic Storm Surge Video - Gulfport, Mississippi
Exclusive (Emmy Award) video shot by Mike Theiss from ground zero of Hurricane Katrina's historic 28 foot storm surge that ripped through Gulfport, Mississippi on August 29th, 2005. This video has a time stamp to give a complete and accurate timeline from the Holiday Inn beachfront hotel located directly on the beach in Gulfport. Also, included are shots from the Theiss-Device which is a camera housing designed by Mike to be placed in a place that would be too dangerous from any human to survive. This 13 minute video will give you a sense of just how bad Katrina was on the Gulf Coast without actually putting you in harms way !!!
To see the entire version of this video about 2 hours in duration please purchase the DVD Battle at the Beachfront.
We hope this documentation helps enforce a sense of storm awareness and a respect for the power of mother nature. When local officials ask you to evacuate just think of this video and ask yourself do you want to risk being put in a situation like this ?
These Are Hands Down The Best Places To Eat Fried Chicken
Though intrinsically connected with Southern cuisine, you can nowadays find phenomenal fried chicken at restaurants in pretty much any state. From the many exceptional fried chicken eateries around the country, we've plucked out the very best of the best. Good luck deciding which one you're going to try first.
The Philly cheesesteak has long reigned as Philadelphia's top culinary artifact. But thanks to one up-and-coming chain of Philadelphia restaurants, fried chicken is working its way up the list.
Eater Chef of the Year Michael Solomonov, his business partner Steve Cook, and local coffee shop owners Tom Henneman and Bobby Logue have been working to establish Philly as a fried chicken Mecca since opening Federal Donuts in 2011. The restaurant specializes in fried chicken, coffee, and donuts. That's all they serve. Henneman says,
It's three comforts under one roof.
Inspired by Korean fried chicken, the birds at Federal Donuts are twice fried for a, quote, teeth-shattering crispiness. The chicken can be coated in a choice of dry seasoning: za'atar, coconut curry, or buttermilk ranch. Or there's a wet glaze of chili garlic, sweet soy garlic, or honey ginger. Whether glazed, seasoned, or plain, the fried chicken is always served with a moist honey donut.
As a slave's granddaughter growing up in rural poverty, Mildred Council, nicknamed Mama Dip, likely never imagined she'd one day serve her fried chicken to fans including Michael Jordan and President Barack Obama. But she did — thanks to some of the most delicious fried chicken ever.
Mama Dip learned to cook working alongside her mother-in-law in a tiny takeout kitchen that quickly earned a reputation for serving the best homemade country dishes in town.
Since opening her own restaurant in 1976, Mama Dip has become a culinary icon. Before farm-to-table cooking was in vogue, Mama Dip sourced all her ingredients from local farmers. Mama Dip's menu hasn't changed much over the years, focusing on Southern comfort staples such as chitlins, smothered pork chops and fried chicken. Her crispy, southern-style birds are paired with classic sides including collard greens and fried green tomatoes.
Mama Dip passed away in the spring of 2018, but her culinary legacy lives on through her fried chicken, which is still served at Mama Dip's Kitchen by her children and grandchildren.

STORYLINE:
Carnival revellers have been streaming into New Orleans for the Mardi Gras celebrations with organisers hoping to throw such a fantastic party that visitors will keep returning to the tourist-dependent city.
Residents and visitors alike enjoyed alcohol and exchanged beads in the famous French Quarter's Bourbon street on Saturday night.
Everybody has amazing outfits on, there's hairstyle, clothing, shoes... it's crazy. The beads that are flying everywhere, the balconies of people, I love it, said Nicole Heth one of the street revellers.
Tourism officials expect at least as many visitors as the 700,000 who partied in 2006 for the annual celebration - this year is the second time the event has been held since Hurricane Katrina devastated the city.
New Orleans is slowly recovering from Katrina, the signs of which are still obvious in swathes of the city, but largely unnoticeable to those who stay in the touristy French Quarter and central business district.
For local officials, the festivities are a chance for New Orleans to get an economic boost - many of the city's small businesses have struggled since Katrina.
New Orleans police are hoping visitors and residents have fun, without a significant increase in crime.
Police have increased security on Bourbon Street, the popular site during Mardi Gras.
Early on Friday (16 February), a shooting in a Mid-City nightclub wounded six people, one critically. The gunman got out in the stampede of patrons, police said.
In a separate incident, three people were shot and two died in a car parked in the Ninth Ward on Thursday night (15 February), far from the heart of the Mardi Gras celebrations.
Sergeant Joe Narcisse, a police spokesman, told AP Television on Friday that locals and visitors has no reason to be concerned, provided they took proper precautions.
The citizens, the visitors in this city should feel absolutely safe when out in those touristy areas. We do ask everyone to kind of also do use some common sense. Don't engage in conversations with people they don't know, don't go anywhere with anyone they don't know, travel in groups of people.
