Three Kings Day (Tres Reyes) Parade through village in Tenerife, Spain for Epiphany
We were fortunate enough to be in Tenerife when the Three Kings Day parade was passing through the village we were staying near to celebrate epiphany. They had minions, beauty & the beast, SpongeBob SquarePants, Peppa Pig, Donald & Daisy Duck, Kings on camals & lots of vintage cars!

Christmas presents are not given on Christmas day here in Spain, they are given on the evening/morning of the 5th/6th January. It is said that it was when the Kings or the 3 wise men came to offer gifts to baby Jesus in the stable. For those that were not able to make it, this is a video of the celebration that took place in Los Cristianos, Tenerife on the night of the 5th January 2012.

January 6 - Dia de Los Reyes in Spanish - is virtually as important as Christmas itself in Spain, especially for kids, as this is the day when they get their presents! The fun starts the evening before, when the three kings lead their procession through the streets, throwing sweets to the children. The next morning, the children wake up to find their presents have been left overnight....

Stanley was shocked that we had never heard of this popular Dominican holiday that is apparently way better than Christmas.

CANDIES, TOYS AND ILLUSION ALL THROWN AROUND EVERYWHERE: Three Wise Men Parade in Spain.
In Spain, instead of Santa Claus, the presents for the kids have always been brought by the Three Wise Men (Tres Reyes Magos) the night of January 5th. There is always a parade in all cities and towns of Spain where tons of candies and toys are thrown around and when it is finished the children go home only to find the presents that the Three Wise Men have brought for them. It's a night full of illusion and happyness.
