Places to see in ( Rimini - Italy )
Rimini is a city of 146,606 inhabitants in the Emilia-Romagna region of northern Italy and capital city of the Province of Rimini. It is located on the Adriatic Sea, on the coast between the rivers Marecchia and Ausa.
It is one of the most famous seaside resorts in Europe, thanks to its 15-kilometre-long (9 mi) sandy beach, over 1,000 hotels, and thousands of bars, restaurants and discos. The first bathing establishment opened in 1843. An art city with ancient Roman and Renaissance monuments, Rimini is the hometown of the famous film director Federico Fellini as well.
There has been a settlement at Rimini since prehistoric times. Founded by the Romans in 268 BC, Rimini boasts a 2,000-year history that has left important marks testifying to its grandeur. To the Romans, Ariminum was a link between the Italic and the Gallic lands, a stronghold on the Adriatic and a gateway to the Po valley. Three major roads converged here - the Flaminian Way, the Aemilian Way and the Popilian Way.
Rimini today is a thriving, bustling resort on the Italian Riviera that boasts over a thousand hotels. It is Italy's biggest beach resort and it is very famous all over Europe, with 15 km of sandy beach plus thousands of bars, restaurants and discos.
This is a place where the Italians go for their sea and sun, and therefore the food is excellent as well as the people being friendly and helpful. You won't find many tour buses filled with Americans or English here! This also means, however, that few speak anything but Italian, so be sure to take your phrase book with you. The locals will work with you and are always happy to see a foreigner at least trying to communicate in their language.

Acqualagna Truffles & Rimini Beaches
Unless you are a serious foodie, you've probably never heard of Acqualagna. It is a small town of just over 4,000 in the region of Marche. A pristine national forest surrounds the town and in the hills nearby are protected truffle hunting grounds. Licensed truffle hunters and their dogs scurry through the woods, in quest of the elusive Tuber Magnatum - the cherished and wild, random growing white truffle. These truffles, when the weather and conditions are just right, grow 10 to 12 inches underground and mature in the fall. Dogs trained to sniff out these elusive diamonds of the kitchen can detect them and dig them up in order to be rewarded by the truffle hunter (not with the white truffle, but a chewy dog treat).
The truffles are brought into the town of Acqualagna which is the heart of the largest white truffle fair in the world. For 47 years truffle hunters, purveyors, importers, distributors, chefs and aficionados have gathered at the annual White Truffle Fair of Acqualagna and the end of October and into early November. Hundreds of thousands now attend over the week-long event, buying, selling and savoring truffles. Exhibitors show every type and size of truffle (black, white, summer, winter). There are prepared truffle products such as truffle oils, pates, creams, preserved truffles and truffle pasta. There are chocolate truffles, chocolate tools, truffle inoculated saplings. There are cooking seminars where chefs discuss and display truffle dishes and every conceivable truffled course from truffle potatoes and truffle pasta to truffle pizza and even truffle ice cream. Can't decide which way to have your truffle? Then head to the restaurant Tartufo and try them all. Of course make sure you bring a fistful of euros as truffles are almost the price of gold.
About an hour's drive northeast from Acqualagna is the popular seaside resort of Rimini in the region of Emilia-Romagna. A stunning, historic hotel at the beach is Il Grand Hotel di Rimini. Built in 1908, it was the destination for artists and filmmakers. Frederico Fellini loved the hotel as a child and used it in his film Amarcord. Rimini's airport is named after Fellini and there is a Fellini Museum.
The Grand Hotel di Rimini was partially destroyed in 1920 by a fire, rebuilt and then bombed in WW II. After numerous renovations, most recently in 1994, today it is rich with18th century Venetian and French furniture, opulent chandeliers and original paintings.
Dining in Rimini is filled with delicious options. But seafood, fresh from the Adriatic, is an important component to any meal. Calamari fritti, bresola with parmigiano, swordfish with tomatoes and grilled radicchio and pasta with spinach are all excellent at the Taverna Degli Artisti Ristorante.
Walking to the wide beaches which run for 15 kilometers, Rimini is chock full of beach hotels, bars, restaurants and discos. There are beach clubs and lots of beach games and distractions. The sand is a muddy beige and the sea is different than on Italy's Mediterranean side. A fifteen minute walk from the beach is the ancient center of Rimini. The main streets are pedestrian walkways surrounding Piazza Tre Martiri. The Arch of Agusta, built in 27 BC is at one end of Via Agusta which is peppered with trendy stores, cafes, bars, restaurants and historic buildings. Recent excavations have uncovered ancient Roman mosaics and streets around temples. Famous artwork by Leonardo and others can be found in Rimini. At the Malatesta Temple is the famous fresco by Piero della Francesca.
Acqualagna and Rimini are both centers of art and culture, one edible, the other visual. But neither should be missed. Viva Italia! For more see atw.tv.
