Fernbank Forest
Fernbank Forest is a 65-acre old-growth forest filled with towering trees, freshwater streams, wetlands and hundreds of animal species, including birds, amphibians, reptiles and mammals. One of the oldest conservation nonprofits in the United States, Fernbank was founded more than 75 years ago to preserve the Forest as a “school in the woods” for nature studies. Today, this beautiful woodland stands as the largest old-growth Piedmont forest in a major U.S. metropolitan area.
Admission to Fernbank Forest is free with the purchase of a Fernbank Museum ticket or a membership.

FERNBANK OBSERVATORY July 3, 2014
The Dr. Ralph L. Buice, Jr. Observatory at Fernbank Science Center in Decatur, Georgia. The dome is 30 ft. (10m) in diameter and houses a 36 in. (0.9m) Schmidt-Cassegrain reflector. This is one of my favorite observatories and it has the largest telescope in the Southeastern United States!

We were caught up in the experiments and stayed a lot longer than we expected. The outside trail was a nice surprise and we'd like to spend more time exploring it. Our kids became addicted to YouTube kids when they got their own iPads. We started our channel as a summer project for the kids. Of course, they had the fun job of being on camera and mom did all the work. Luckily mom fell in love with running the channel and dad quickly joined the fun. We share our life, adventures, challenges, and toy videos aiming for daily and achieving less.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.

SUMMARY
=======
The Fernbank Science Center is a museum, classroom, and woodland complex located in Atlanta. It is owned and operated by the DeKalb County School System, which announced in May 2012 it was considering closing the facility to cut its annual budget, then quickly shelved the plan after public outcry. The nearby Fernbank Museum of Natural History is a private non-profit organization that is separate from the Science Center.

About the Forest
Fernbank Forest is a 65-acre undisturbed, old-growth hardwood forest centrally located in metropolitan Atlanta. Although Fernbank Forest is one of the largest assemblages of such land in the Piedmont region, it is a small remnant of the type of majestic forests that originally covered this area of the United States. Since the 1800s, nearly all of Atlanta's original vegetation has been lost to farming and development. Many birds, small mammals, turtles and snakes live year round in Fernbank Forest. Many species of protected migratory birds also thrive within the forest.
About Our Guide
Eli Dickerson is the ecologist with Fernbank Museum of Natural History who is leading the ecological restoration efforts in Fernbank Forest. He is a seasoned naturalist with a background in environmental education, restoration ecology, and a special focus on native trees. He also voluntarily manages Atlanta's Champion Trees, a project under Trees Atlanta which seeks to locate, measure and document the largest native trees in metro-Atlanta, many of which reside in Fernbank Forest.
