Fighter World is a great museum located a the RAAF Base Williamtown. The runway is shared between the RAAF & Newcastle airport. During the week you will often see training jets or fighter jets taking off.

Fighter world Is a museum of decommissioned war planes used in the RAAF. It is situated adjacent to Williamtown RAAF airbase. From the fightersworld observation deck or cafe, you can watch some of our modern Warplanes take off and land. You can easily spend 2 hours there. You will see a whole bunch of planes crammed into two hangers, from jet fighters, weapons, bombs, ejector seats, parachutes and various aviation equipment and uniforms. It has the largest collection of aircraft models and tin models. Some of the planes allow you to sit inside and get the feel of the tight condition the airman are subjected to. There is a replica of a WW2 spitfire and Messerschmitt Bf 109 in the second hanger. You can also grab a snack at the cafe on site. Don’t forget to comment in their guest book and get some souvenirs on the way out, we forgot and will get it next time we visit. Enjoy.

UPDATE : AUSTRALIA CONSOLIDATES F 35 MRO SUPPORT
The Australian Department of Defence (DoD) and Lockheed Martin Australia have agreed to consolidate the corporation's provision of maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) support for the Royal Australian Air Force's (RAAF's) F-35 Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter aircraft under one contract.
The DoD said on 1 August that a new five-year deal - worth AUD91 million (USD62 million) - will streamline operational support for Australia's F-35A aircraft. It added that the agreement consolidates existing arrangements provided through the US F-35 Joint Program Office into one Australian-managed contract with Lockheed Martin Australia.
The agreement relates to the F-35 logistics system - known as the Autonomic Logistics Information System (ALIS) - which provides fault diagnosis, maintenance management, supply support, mission planning, and training management.
Australian Defence Minister Linda Reynolds said the new agreement delivers a more responsive and cost-effective solution for key aspects of Australian F-35A maintenance management and will create up to 60 jobs in the Canberra, Adelaide, Hunter, and Katherine regions.
Lockheed Martin said the agreement facilitates engagement on integration, maintenance, and administration services (IMAS) that will underpin all F-35 sustainment deals in the country. The corporation, which will implement the contract in collaboration with local industry partners, said the agreement is the first of its kind to be signed by the Australian government.
Australia has ordered 72 F-35As, the first two of which arrived at RAAF Base Williamtown, north of Sydney, in December 2018. The RAAF aims for the aircraft to achieve initial operating capability (IOC) by December 2020. Jane's reported in May that by the end of 2019 Australia will have received 18 F-35As, and up to 33 aircraft by the end of 2020, including F-35As currently in the United States.

F-35A - F-18 Williamtown RAAF Airmovements July 2019 - Arrestor Capture Landing
Another drive by the RAAF Base at Williamtown NSW this week - Saw a few people gathering and I stopped to find the airbase was a hive of activity.
The wind was very strong, lots of wind shift and shearing. I brought a smaller traveller type Tripod, totally useless in the prevailing conditions, but it had to suffice.
A few F-18 Super Hornets were performing touch and go maneuvers, obviously a precursor to something they were working up to. When out of the blue two F-35A's decided to make an appearance. One F-18 performed a Arrestor Hook Capture landing, as seen in slow motion. Lots of sparks and smoke as the hook made contact with the tarmac. Once the arrestor cable was stowed away the runway was clear again.
The F-35A's did numerous flyovers whilst the ground crew removed the captured F-18 and arrestor cable.
The volume and sound of these two F-35A's as they powered up and away from the runway was breathtaking. Two instances were it so loud it physically seems to suck the air out of your lungs and your entire body shook. The others around me seemed a little disorientated as well. It was quite amazing. I have been around such military aircraft before many times, but these F-35A's power plants are on another level entirely. It was breathtaking.
Again I apologise for the jerky footage and the wind noise. It was a challenging environment to video in, but well worth the effort. How much more to pilot these amazing war birds in those conditions. Hugely impressed by what I witnessed and felt.

Seven more F-35A Lightning II aircraft arrive at RAAF Base Williamtown
Australia's multi-billion-dollar Joint Strike Fighter program has reached a new milestone with seven F-35A Lightning II aircraft arriving at RAAF Base Williamtown.
Defence Minister Linda Reynolds said the arrival brought the total number of F-35As at Williamtown to 13, with another five based at Luke Air Force Base in Arizona.
The F-35 program was on track to provide Australia with a fifth-generation aircraft at the forefront of air combat technology.
“This is the most advanced, multi-role stealth fighter in the world which will deliver next-generation capability benefits and provide a major boost to air combat capability, Senator Reynolds said.
The Australian Government has approved the next 24 aircraft – meaning all 72 Australian F-35A Lightning II aircraft are now locked in.
Defence has also signed on to an international deal known as the 'Block Buy Contract', valued in total at US$34 billion, which would deliver 45 of Australia’s F-35A Lightning II aircraft.
“The deal is great news for Australia with the unit price now 5 per cent below the estimate at Government approval in 2014,” Senator Reynolds said.
