Evangelical Lutheran Church in America Presiding Bishop Elizabeth Eaton co-hosts a commemoration of the 500th anniversary of the Reformation. The event, which includes speakers and a service, is at the Lutheran Church of the Reformation on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. Bishop Eaton is joined by co-hosts Indiana-Kentucky Synod Bishop Bill Gafkjen, ELCA Vice President Bill Horne and Metropolitan Washington, D.C., Synod Bishop Richard Graham.

Controversial Mary & Joseph billboard
A mischievous billboard about to be hoisted by an Auckland church and intended to provoke conversation about spiritual matters at Christmas has raised the ire of a Christian lobby group.
Family First NZ labeled the billboard to be put up by St Matthew-in-the-City Church as insensitive and objectionable to many people.
The billboard will feature an illustration the church itself felt could disturb some.
On it, Mary and Joseph are in bed. Joseph looks down dejected. Mary looks sad.
The caption reads: Poor Joseph. God is a hard act to follow.
It was intended to challenge stereotypes about the way that Jesus was conceived and get people talking about the Christmas story, the church said.
Archdeacon Glynn Cardy said it had already generated plenty of discussion in its conception phase.
But Family First national director Bob McCoskrie describes the church's plan as irresponsible.
The church can have its debate on the virgin birth and its spiritual significance inside the church building, but to confront children and families with the concept as a street billboard is completely irresponsible and unnecessary, he said.
The church has failed to recognize that public billboards are exposed to all of the public including children and families who may be offended by the material.
Even the Catholic Church in New Zealand wants to know why the Anglican Church is questioning where Jesus came from.
Auckland's Catholic Church spokeswoman Lyndsay Freer says it's a distinctly a non-Christian message.
She says she would be surprised if the billboard's representative of mainstream Anglican thinking.
Cardy said on the church's website that the true importance of Christmas was in the radical hospitality Jesus offered to the poor, the despised, women, children, and the sick.
His death was a consequence of the offensive nature of that hospitality and his resurrection a symbolic vindication.
Last week a campaign by New Zealand Atheist Bus Campaign raised $20,000 in public donations to fund bus ads which read theres probably no God. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life. Those ads created a storm when they ran on the London Underground and British buses this year. Similar ads have run in the United States, Canada, Italy, Spain, Australia, Finland and Germany.
The Indian Problem
As American power and population grew in the 19th century, the United States gradually rejected the main principle of treaty-making—that tribes were self-governing nations—and initiated policies that undermined tribal sovereignty. For Indian nations, these policies resulted in broken treaties, vast land loss, removal and relocation, population decline, and cultural decimation.
The Indian Problem was produced to serve as the central video in the exhibition Nation to Nation: Treaties Between the United States and American Indian Nations, on view at the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, DC. This video introduces visitors to the section of the exhibition titled Bad Acts, Bad Paper.

Recorded at the Church of Christ of the Apostolic Faith the largest congregation of it’s denomination in Columbus Ohio.

Thompson coined and known as The Man with the Golden Horn by the Late Bishop James E. Tyson, Founder and Pastor of Christ Church Apostolic Indianapolis Indiana of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World.
Jonathan had recently been a featured soloist and arranger on the Christ Church Apostolic Radio Choir LP entitled “If You Don’t Praise Him” presented and released by TYSCOT Records in 1983. The album made top Gospel Music Billboard. His rendition of Amazing Grace was heard on Gospel Music Radio all over the United States. Tyscot Records was the first and still the only black Gospel Music Record Company in the US founded by Dr.
Leonard Scott and the Late L. Craig Tyson. Scott and Tyson were two of Thompson’s mentors in Music as well as the Gospel Music Business along with several others.
Jonathan Thompson’s radio broadcasting career spanned from 1986 to 1992. He was an on Air Personality, Disc Jockey, Newsman, Producer and Promotor for the Gospel Music Radio Station WGRT AM in Indianapolis, Indiana and KTYM AM Christian Radio StatIon in Los Angels, California.
Thompson has continued his work as an Actor, Singer, Musician, Poet, Author and Arts Educator. He has consistently worked doing Television, Commercials, Voiceovers, Teaching and mentoring young people with his life and professional experiences spanned over thirty-five plus years.
Best known for his appearance on NBC’s Popular TV Sitcom the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air starring Will Smith in 1992. He has used his platform to influence thousands of students on the importance of education.
He founded and is the Artist Director of Arts Motivation for Youth (Am4youth) a 501 C 3 organization that fosters and nurtures youth to fulfill their full potential using the arts.
Am4youth was awarded a grant in December 2013 to make visible Thompson’s work.
In 2015 Jonathan was nominated for an Television Emmy for Am4youth’s PBS Television presentation The Teaching Artist which documents his work as an educator. Jonathan produced, wrote, directed and was featured with friends, colleagues and students.
His class training are in disciplines of: Music Theory, Beginning and Intermediate Piano, Saxophone, and Theater Course training for Teaching Artist developed by the Partners in Education program of the John F. Kennedy Center of the Performing Arts.
A former student of the Kings Seminary and Life Bible College in Southern California, Thompson is an licensed ordained Minister and has certificates and certifications in Counseling and Youth Course Training through Rod and Staff Counseling and the YUSA. He founded and co-founded two churches in the Los Angeles where he was formerly Senior Pastor.
Thompson still holds his F.C.C. License as a Radio Engineer and is an union card carrying member with the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artist (AFTRA).
Jonathan Thompson enjoys most being an avid family man who loves to interact and engage with his wife Janel, sons Jeremy, Joshua Waikel, Sir Jonathan, Jairus and grandson Jeremiah.

This video is meant to give a non-bias account of the events which unfolded in the years leading up to the First Thanksgiving, and the several years following the feast (roughly 1614-1622). I apologize for any pronunciation errors with Native American names; I have a deep respect for the native peoples of America, but I am ignorant on speaking their languages. I hope I have not offended anyone!
To keep the video below 7 minutes, many details were negated, so everything inside my video is what I consider essential to receiving a well-rounded view and understanding of this very interesting event. For instance, we still don't know what the epidemic of the Great Dying of 1616-1619 was, despite numerous theories. Squanto died in 1622, never admitting any involvement in a plot to overthrow Massasoit. The events that happened after 1622 could fill several more videos!
There is no political agenda behind this video. I am a student of history with and I have tried to give an account of the first Thanksgiving that is as close as we can possibly get to the truth.

STORYLINE
Cuba has honoured a request by Pope Benedict XVI and made Good Friday an official holiday for the first time in half-a-century.
It is the first time since the early days of the island's 1959 revolution that the day has been a public holiday, but few Catholics on the island seemed to be using the day off to attend Mass.
A decision on whether the move will be permanent has not yet been made.
Schools, banks, and some shops were closed.
Denis Lezcano, a 39-year-old Cuban military officer, took advantage of the new holiday by going out for a walk in Old Havana with his young daughter.
Authorities also allowed Cardinal Jaime Ortega's to transmit a Good Friday message on state television, on an educational channel generally reserved for televised classes.
Ortega called for forgiveness during his sermon on Friday at Havana Cathedral.
Religious holidays were abolished in the 1960s after brothers Fidel and Raul Castro came to power, ushering in a Marxist government.
One of the aims of Pope Benedict's trip was to help Cuba's local church, which has been sidelined during 30 years of official atheism that ended only in 1992.
Cuba removed references to atheism from its constitution in the 1990s, and relations have warmed with the church.
Still, less than 10 percent of islanders are practicing Catholics.
In a communique last week, the Communist government said that the decision was made in light of the success of Benedict's transcendental visit to the country at the end of March.
The Catholic Church welcomed the decision, saying it hoped it would lead to greater participation in Easter celebrations.
Benedict's appeal to Cuban President Raul Castro was reminiscent of his predecessor John Paul II's 1998 request to Fidel Castro that Christmas be restored as a holiday.
December 25th is in fact now a holiday, but not a religious one: it was granted to honour the visit of John Paul II and not recognised by the government as the day Christians believe that Christ was born.
Good Friday is the day Catholics commemorate the death of Christ, but it is not a holiday in the United States, most of Europe or even Mexico, the most Catholic of the world's Spanish-speaking countries.

The Teen Who Brought Gay Pride To Mike Pence's Hometown
When 18-year-old Erin Bailey decided to put on a Pride festival for her senior project, she expected maybe 50 people would show up.
But she happens to share her hometown of Columbus, Indiana, with Vice President Mike Pence--a vocal opponent of LGBTQ rights--and her idea quickly blew up, becoming a symbol of resistance in a largely conservative region.
We followed Erin on the day of the festival, and met other members of the community who spent years making an event like this possible.
