HITLERS TERRIBLE TOWER - Giant World War 2 Anti Aircraft Flak Tower
World War 2 was a dark time for the planet. Racism was rampant, and people were being killed. This tower is one of the 8 complexes that Hitler had constructed to help protect major cities against and allied air attack during world war two. The Flakturms were extremely effective. Watch as I fly my drone around the towers and you can see all of its history in 4K.
This is the drone I used for this video:

The Flaktürme (flak towers) in Vienna, Austria.
This video looks at five of the six German-built Flaktürme (flak towers) built in pairs around the centre of Vienna, Austria in 1942-5.
The clip start with the two in Augarten, then moves to the two in
Arenbergpark and finally the one still visible in Esterhazy Park.
The last one is now located out of public view in an area
owned by the Austrian Army.
Nazi Flak Towers in Vienna: Luftwaffe Flakturme Today
In September 2017 I’ve visited Vienna, Austria - found and made photos of all six Luftwaffe Anti Aircraft Towers, known as Flak towers and Flakturm.
These monumental colossuses outlasted Third Reich and World War Two but still make strong impression at short range. History of Flak towers during and after the War till now and photos.

Flak towers in Augarten park, Vienna, Austria
On this video you can see a flak tower complex that consisted of:
- L-Tower (German: Leitturm) or Lead Tower also known as the Fire-control tower, command tower, listening bunker or small flak tower.
- G-Tower (German: Gefechtsturm) or Combat Tower, also known as the Gun Tower, Battery Tower or Large Flak Tower.
The towers were able to sustain a rate of fire of 8000 rounds per minute from their multi-level guns, with a range of up to 14 km in a 360-degree field of fire. via Wikipedia
WW2 Flak tower exploration in Vienna
Flak towers (German: Flaktürme) were eight complexes of large, above-ground, anti-aircraft gun blockhouse towers constructed by Nazi Germany in the cities of Berlin (3), Hamburg (2), and Vienna (3) from 1940 onwards.

Nazi-Era Flak Tower -- Drone POV
Our visit to Vienna's Augarten Park to see its mighty flaktürme (flak towers) was just one of many highlights during our 2 weeks in Austria and Germany.
This tower is Flaktürme 7 and it's difficult to appreciate just how massive and formidable it is unless you've it in person - I hope this video helps to give some sense of its immense scale.
As an aside, no auto modes were used during the filming of this video in fact, I still haven't tried any of the Mavic's automated features and prefer to fly in manual mode. Enjoy!
Thanks for watching

Crows & Flak Towers (Vienna) - Outtakes
I recently took footage on two different days of 5 Flak Towers Flaktürme in Vienna (there are 6, but one is located in a barracks). Here are some of the outtakes I personally liked, but are unlikely to make it into a regular video. Hope you enjoy.
Location: Aubergpark, Vienna, Austria
Military History Visualized provides a series of short narrative and visual presentations like documentaries based on academic literature or sometimes primary sources. Videos are intended as introduction to military history, but also contain a lot of details for history buffs. Since the aim is to keep the episodes short and comprehensive some details are often cut.

The WWII Augarten G & L Flak Towers, Vienna
The G and L Flak Towers were built in 1944-1945 as anti-aircraft emplacements with a capability of up to 8000 rounds a minute. Three pairs were built in Vienna and this was the most advanced every actually constructed. They were largely ineffective as planes either avoided them or flew high over them. They were also bomb shelters and had generators, etc. Many Austrians were born in the medical wards in them.
After the war they proved almost indestructable and they have been retained with uses such as aquaria, storage, etc. This one suffered a huge internal explosion when children set light to the inside and 2000 large calibre shells went off. It has been repaired externally and some of the 'swallows nests' removed.

The Berlin Flak Tower
In this Vlog we start our day at the beautiful Brandenburg Gate before moving onto the Reichstag, the Tiergarten Soviet War Memorial and the enormous Flak Tower at Humboldthain. We eat dinner in what was Hitler's Reich Chancellery courtyard and finish off the day with a night time stroll around the city.

We are not Historians. We are two ordinary chaps who are learning about WW2 history and documenting our journey. We are exploring this period of history from the sides of both the Allies and Axis. Those with sympathetic views towards the Nazi regime or hold any type of extreme views are not welcome here on WW2 Nation.
Flak Tower - Lost Places in Wien, Das Heizhaus

Flakturmforschung in Wien/Austria
