Beautiful cheap camping - under $30/night - near the Redwoods National & State Parks can be difficult to find. After boondocking 5 nights at Florence Keller County Park & Campground I can tell you this is an excellent place to affordably camp among the redwoods. There are plenty of amenities here too! Just be careful on the roads in, they're narrow with trees closely lining the road in spots making it difficult for large rigs to camp here.

This is a great spot right in the redwoods. For only $15 a night tent camping, you really can’t beat it. Fresh water, bathrooms and fire pits with tables. Everything you could need.
Camp hosts are friendly!
Truly a magical place to stay

Crescent City Redwoods KOA Campground
We loved this campground near Redwoods National Park! The campground has its own 10 acre redwood forest right there on site along with all the typical KOA amenities. I wouldn't say it is big-rig friendly, but our 30' fifth wheel and truck fit perfectly in our full hook up pull thru spot.

Camping in the Redwoods - Jedediah Smith Redwood State Park
We decided to take a road trip to Jedediah Smith Redwood State Park in Northern California.
We stayed two nights at the state park campground. It is highly developed with heated restrooms and warm water showers.
The site is a bit pricey at almost 35 dollars per night.
They also had cabins which were $100 usd per night.
Some friends also joined us on this trip, and although there wasn’t much to see except for the trees, it is definitely a must see and should be on everyone’s bucket list!

With multiple camping loops dispersed around the grounds the park is designed to keep various groups together; long term/ seasonal in the back loops, short term guests near the main entrance/ exit and tent sites along a wooded area.
Large RVs can access the park but care should be taken as the park does have a number of large trees throughout. Those same large trees provide a natural ambiance to the park. Paved roads with dirt parking pads and concrete patios (at some sites).

Come With Us Camping - Jed Smith State Park
Camping at Jedediah Smith State Park in Hiouchi, CA in the Coastal Redwood Old Growth Forest.
Along the way, you will find yourself surrounded by Coast Redwood trees, scientific name being Sequoia Semperviren. Highway 101 northbound in the Pacific North West through Humboldt and Del Norte is lined with the tallest Redwoods in the world.
Elk are a common site along the way as well. There is a campground in a prairie setting, which is the preferred location for elk. The campground is called Elk County Campground, which is well priced and a nice stay.
The Trees of Mystery is just past the town of Orick California, in Klamath. The famous Babe the Blue Ox and Paul Bunyan can be seen from Highway 101, forcing you to stop in and check out their gift shop. They also have a sky tram but we've yet to do it.
We also ate at the Hiouchi Cafe right up the road from Jedediah SmithRedwood State Park. They claim to have the best breakfast in the whole county of Del Norte, and from my experiences the portions are huge and cheap, delicious too. It is like stepping back in time with a family feel.
While attempting to go to Stout Grove (the road was too rough for my mom to feel comfortable enough to enjoy the view) we, and by we I mean my mom noticed plants on the side of the road. A house had put out a sign to take a plant for free in hopes of good karma. I picked up a Summer Squash.
There were Kayakers on the Smith River that we ran into after seeing them off at the beginning of their adventure, later being at our camp site.
At one point we did try to visit Smith River National Recreation Area Forestry Station Visitor Center but they are closed on weekends.
Campsite 49 was one of the best campsites I have had here in the redwoods so far, I would recommend that spot, just don't go reserving it next year on my weekend, only kidding... Sorta.
