Museums of Mysuru
The Heritage City of Mysore may as well be called a City of Museums, thanks to the sheer number of museums in the city. Some of the historical buildings that were constructed during the Wadiyar rule have now been converted into museums including Jayalakshmi Vilas Mansion (folklore museum), Karanji Mansion (Postal Museum), Jaganmohan Palace (Jayachamarajendra Art Gallery) and Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalay. This apart, there are many other museums including Regional Museum of Natural History, Mysore Palace Residential Museum and the Rail Museum.

Rail Museum Mysore is a Mysore Museum part of Mysore Tourism and Karnataka Tourism. The Railway Museum at Mysore, India is an outdoor exhibit of vintage locomotives.
The Railway Museum was established in 1979 by Indian Railways, the second such museum after the National Railway Museum in Delhi. The museum is opposite the Central Food Technology and Research Institute on Krishnaraja Sagar Road. It has locomotives and a gallery of photographs and paintings depicting the growth of railways in India. Railway signals and lights are also displayed. The display includes ES 506 4-6-2 is the first locomotive at the entrance.

The Maharani Saloon carriage that has a kitchen, dining car unit and royal toilet dating back to 1899.
A W.G. Bagnall #1625 which was made in 1900 for Khushalgarh - Kohat - Thal Railway which was a military frontier line, was subsequently transferred to North Western Railways. It operated at Timber Depot in Marala and was transferred later to Dhilwan Creosoting plant. This 2'-6 gauge locomotive is configured as 2-4-2ST.
Class E #37244 4-4-4T from SIR built by North British Locomotive Co. in 1920. Originally # 8, it was one of the three superheated locomotives.
Class TS/1 #37338 2-6-2T from SR, made by W.G. Bagnall in 1932 for Mysore State Railways.
A YP #2511 made by Telco in 1963.

Chikka Gadiyaara | Dufferin Clock Tower | Monuments of Mysuru
Chikka Gadiyara (Dufferin clock tower) is another magnificent art tower in Karnataka's cultural capital Mysore. As per the historical evidence chikka Gadiyara was built in 1886 by 10th chamaraja wodeyar in the Mysore's important place Devaraja market and K R circle.
It is constructed in the 18th century as a symbol of friendship between wodeyars of Mysore and Britishers. It is constructed in the memory of the visit of the then viceroy lord Dufferin to the Mysore Kingdom.
This tower is named after the viceroy Lord Dufferin. Within the people of Mysore, It is popular as chikka Gadiyara even today. Chikka gadiyara is constructed in a square shape on the foundation of 16 pillars. It has an attractive fountain in the center. The clock is above the building has 4 stage structure. Each stage has a very attractive artwork.
The last part has the Mysore's emblem Ganda berunda and clock is built on 4 sides of this. Devaraja Market, Devaraj urs road and sayyaji Rao road are nearby famous places. This has been renovated in 2012 and it is the main tourist attractive place.

Mysore Sea Shell Art Museum Guinness World Record Karnataka South India.Mysore Museum part of Mysore Tourism Karnataka tourism. Radha Mallappa, a resident of Hanumanthanagar, has been working on products of the sea like seashells and conchs since more than two decades and designed different items. Beginning from the smallest flower to the giant sized Taj Mahal, Shiva temple, church, each piece is unique and eye-catching.
The 11ft X 18ft tall Ganesha idol that she created using seashells and conchs bagged the Guinness World Record. The size of Taj Mahal is 12ft X 13ft, while Shiva’s temple is also 12ft X 13ft and the church is 13ftX15ft.
Each artefact displayed is better than the other one. There are 160 models on display and Radha Mallappa, 54, has spent nearly Rs. four crore to make these lovely pieces using seashells and conchs.
The other attractions include , lovebirds made out of paddy grains, family of crows made out of hair, dinosaurs blooming out of a nib all displays the extraordinary talent of Radha Mallappa.

Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalya at Wellington house is a Mysore Museum part of Mysore tourism Karnataka tourism. Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya (IGRMS) is a national museum dedicated to anthropology (study of humankind), particularly in respect of India. Its regional centre is situated at Wellington house (Wellinton lodge) in the city of Mysore - known as the Southern Regional Centre of IGRMS.
The regional centre periodically organises exhibitions related to different forms of cultural identities. Short-term training sessions are conducted on varied traditional art forms along with interactive educational programmes. In addition to these, dance, music and theatrical performances, depicting classical, tribal and folk traditions, are also arranged for visitors. The centre also provides an excellent platform to various artists to showcase their talent.

100 Years Old Heritage Mysore House..With a theme of music, Melody World Wax Museum is one of the popular sightseeing places of the city. Located only 3 km away from Mysore Maharaja Palace, it is easily accessible too. A heritage building of Mysore, the building of this museum is said to be 100 years old.
It also boasts of having the largest collection of musical instruments in Karnataka. Varied kinds of musical instruments belonging to different parts of the country and ages have been displayed here.
Life-size wax statues in native attires are a few of the major attractions at this museum. Display of a wide array of musical instruments, life size statues of musicians playing various instruments in out of the ordinary sets make this museum a place worth visiting.
Established by an IT professional named Shreeji Bhaskaran in 2010, this unique museum was built as a tribute to all the musicians of the world.
Melody Wax Museum is the result of unwavering hard work of an IT professional named Shreeji Bhaskaran. Bangalore based, Shreeji Bhaskaran conceptualised and developed this museum which was started in the month of October 2010. This museum is maintained and managed by sophisticated computer technology, which is applied by Shreeji Bhaskaran and his spouse Reena.
This incredible work of wax was created in the honour of musicians across the globe. Mysore wax museum is not the only work of Mr. Shreeji Bhaskaran. Wax World at Ooty and wax museum in Goa are few of his other creations.
This wax museum is consisted of 19 galleries with each gallery presenting a unique experience of the world of music and arts. An approximate of 300 musical instruments, both Indian instruments and western instruments have been displayed here.
The music instruments showcased here at the museum belong to various eras, ranging from traditional ones to the modern as well as indigenous music instruments depicting tribal music.
It also has about 110 life size wax statues. These wax statues and music instruments have been places in different settings of bands and stages. Some of the popular representations of bands are Indian Classical music such as Hindustani and Carnatic, Punjabi Bhangra, Middle East, Chinese, Tribal, Jazz, Hip Hop, Rock, etc.
Along with this, a few of the exhibitions here at the wax museum Mysore are of social significance. For instance, a few statues here throw light on the issue of growing gap between the rich and poor in society. There is also a statue of erstwhile Mysore Maharaja, Nalvadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar, which is indeed a special attraction among visitors.
All the wax statues that have been displayed here present a glimpse into the spellbinding talent of the sculptures who have crafted such fine replicas of real life.
Some of the wax statues at the museum have been brought from ousted India while some have been created in the country itself. Irrespective of where these life size statues have been developed, the work behind these magical sculptures requires an elaborate process, ranging from digital imaging, traditional method of moulding, sculpting, etc. Around 50 kg and more amount of wax are used for making a life size wax statue which is done in around 2-4 months of time.
After the sculpting of wax statue, these are accessorised with clothes, jewellery, etc, which are made specially to fit the statue. Cosmetic colouring is also done during the final stages. Parts such as eyes, hair, teeth are also specially created for the statues.
Timings of Melody World Wax museum Mysore is from 9.30 AM to 7 PM. It is open throughout the week. For entering this museum, a minimal entry charge is to be paid. Entry fee of Melody World Wax museum is only Rs.30 per person.
Mysore Wax Museum is connected via road and is easily accessible. Tourists can choose from a range of local transports to reach this museum. There are many city buses that run via this route.
Tourists can also hire a cab or take auto rickshaws which are easily available from every corner of the Mysore city. It is located quite close (3km) to Mysore Palace.
